I have a p5kc

Follow the IP35 Pro tutorial.

Don't have more than 1 partition on the HD your installing too, use bios to switch boot between leopard and SL install.

Use 10.5.8 ideneb as base box on seperate HD to get up and running initially.

Make sure your boot flags are correct as the PATA2 kext that is posted around here only works in 32bit mode. (You can edit the original ATA but this only works with sata ports 1 & 2.

hy i have installed 10.6.1 on my P5K

i have 2 SATA Drives and on one i had 10.5.8 installed -

here is a link with a good tutorial - for P5K

I only need 4 kext to install and set the Sata Drive for SnowLeo to 1st boot and put it an the 1st sata place on the mainbord

you have to take the old Pc EFI boot file i attached ( it is from Pc EFI 10.1) - install is very easy if you have Osx Leo already installed;

what you need :

1.) 10.6 SnowLeo DVD or img file

2.) SATA Drive for Snow Leo and a Partition on a other SATA with more than 8GB for the DVD or a USB Stick with 8GB

3.) Pc EFI 10.1 ( or only the boot file)

4.) Kexthelper to install the 4 Kext you need

5.) show and hite (widget)

my way:

1.) in diskutility you format your Sata Drive for SnowLeo with GUID

2.) you have to rebuild your OSX DVD 10.6 with DiskUtility - on the Partiton or on the USB Drive (just trag&drop the drives in the line)

3.) now you have to exclude your drives from spotlight - otherwise you become kernel panics

4.) than go to dashboard and show all files with the widget show&hide

5.) now you can go to the rebuild osx Snowleo (on the Partition or usb drive) and got to: System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

just let it install;

6.) when the install is finished you have to install the PcEFI 10.1 and but the boot file on the root

7.) put the kext into the Extra/Extension folder and edit the UUID in com.apple.boot.plist and in the plattform uuid - you find your uuid(for the SnowLeo drive) in diskutility

8.) install the 4 kext also on SnowLeo Drive with kexthelper or put it in S/L/E and repair permissions

9.) cross the finger and reboot with the SnowLeo Drive as 1st boot in your bios

sry about my bad english -

if i have some time i can write a tutorial with pics

good luck

Thx for the answers.

johnDOit could you post the complet files I need and the exact folder to put them ??

I've downloaded too much files, and now I don't know which are good for "P5K"

I've got the kext you put, but the PcEFI 10.1 and com.apple.boot.plist and in the plattform uuid not. I'know to change the UUID.

And please the repair permisions commands for use in Terminal.

I'm trying it with OSX86Tools Utility for now.

If you make a visual guide it would be great.

Thx !!

:) ups i forgot 1 thing - you have to make your dsdt.aml file with dsdt patcher - search the forum

here is fasl´s way dsdt.aml patch

i will make a little tutorial by time with pics

so here are all files you need - don`t forget to change UUID in com.apple.boot.plist and in the PlatformUUID.kext

remove my DSDT.aml and patch your own and put the Extra Folder after installing PC EFI 10.1 into the SL Drive !(Point 7 )

good luck !

here are some pics of the install way

I've done every thing you say but when restart booting from Snow HD i've a Panic : unable to find driver for /ACPI/........IOPlatformExpert.

I think the only different maybe is that i have the SATA drive in the SATA0 port ( red ) . You say 1st place, but i don't know if you want to say sata0 or sata1 ??

the other think maybe with permissions. I just use Universal OSX installer to install custom kext from snow Extra/Extensions and use Install. I think repair permissions maybe is done by program ?? Or i need to do it ¿?

Thx Again !!!

I wait for your graphical guide :) Can you add some BIOS screen captures !!! and which version ¿??¿

From a Leopard installed on a USB device I install Chameleon 2 RC3 r658 with EFI 10.5 by Netkas in Snow Partition and modify the "com.apple.Boot.plist" with my string extract from EFI Studio, like this : ( Tell me if it's ok for GF 8600GT 256Mb ?? ).

You'll need to update BIOS to 1201. Make sure if SATA controllers are in IDE mode. Connect Leo and Win7 HDD to first two ports(there are 4 ports) . There are also two separate jMicron ports(red and black), don't use them, because there's not full x64 support yet.

After, just install x64_LeoSnowP5K_Chameleon_2_EFI_v10.5 to SL partition, where was installed and reboot.

About strings:

com.apple.Boot.plist from Extra contains strings exactly for your card GeForce 8600 GT 256Mb, you don't need to change it.

Strings for GeForce 8600 GT 256 DVI mode(not VGA):

Hi, TheKaligula

Soon, I'll make a tutorial for ASUS P5K Mobo. And for info: there are much differences, between another mobo's from this family, like P5K Pro or Deluxe. Also depends on what CPUs and graphics you use.

About your hardware:

It's very close to iMac8,1 , but to have native speedstep enabled(0x0), I configured it as MacPro3,1(about 3 times faster). So you don't need to fix your DSDT.

Strings that you're provided, are also correct, I just added Ethernet identity for AttansicL1, to prevent TimeMachine error and problems with some applications like iTunes and others.

hi all ...

i managed to make it work... sort of :censored2:

First install could not use TimeMachine, so added your FakeSMCv2.kext and now it is actually making backup.

BUT : i only have GPU in graphics = only one screen as 1024*768 and nothing else ?

My /Extra/com.apple.boot.list is the same as before ???

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>-v arch=x86_64 GraphichsEnabler=YES</string>

<key>Timeout</key>

<string>5</string>

</dict>

</plist>

Now i can backup but cant change resolution.... any help ???

EDIT : I tried EFIStudio and actually found that there was some boot.plist that had a Nvidia card as string (???). So i deleted that and now i have both screens working, but no TimeMachine:=)

HELP, please !

Kari

Would be great to have two methods for testing.

I encourage you to do the guides as soon as possible and to share your results. ( do not forget to catch the Bios images ).

I've BIOS = 1201

I've SATA in Enhanced mode - IDE and JMicron enable - AHCI.

In Bios appears

SATA1 = WD 74Gb = Win7

SATA2 = SEAGATE 120Gb = Snow Leopard

SATA3 = SAMSUNG 750Gb = Files.

Thx !

The "Still waiting for root device" message, do you think is about this ATA Driver ????

Could you remake the step by step with new files you post and "teminal" commands for repair permision... edit com.apple.....UUID.... etc.

And how to use the utilities to make DSDT files.......

Thx

Again the same thing. " Still waiting for root device"

I think the best maybe is to format again Snow partition and start from 0 with last files you send me.

Could you rewrite the step by step with new files, and how to use utilities like DSDTSE, EFIstuido and EvoTools and the repair permision commands.... and which files are really needed or not ?

Thx !!

Hi, TheKaligula

One and very important thing, is that u have to make clean install. You should remake partitions(not just re-format) with retail SL on HDD wich u want to install. Because, retail will never boot on partitions maded by distros like iDeneb or others.

So, u should make following:

1.Prepare one USB flash drive. Use Disk Utility, to partition it as MBR, then format it as default HFS+ journaled.

2. Install Chameleon with EFI 10.5( see prevous posts) to ur prepared USB drive.

3. Restart and boot from ur prepared USB drive. Insert SL retail DVD and select it from Chameleon menu, then press ENTER... make ur SL HDD partition with Disk Utility (GUID), install , until it's done and will restart automaticaly.

4. After restart, boot again from USB drive, from chameleon menu, select partition, where SL was installed.

5 At last, when all is done. install chameleon to SL HDD and restart. Then update to 10.6.2 and use Disk Utility to repare permissions.

goodluck.

I take mu USB with Leopard and install Chameleon with EFI 10.5 ( my USB has one partition in GUID mode, I don't wanna change to MBR becouse I have no time to reinstall Leo on USB. Maybe this could be the problem ??)

Then when I boot from USB and open Chameleon I could not see the DVD+RW IDE Drive. I see all other Drives except DVD Reader.

I need to partition in MBR the USB unit ¿?¿?

Thx !!!

P.D. I hope finally somebody make some EASY AND WORKING GUIDE for P5K !!! ;) I'm geeting stressed.
