I have always been a PC guy but over the past few years I have gotten very intrigued by the mac. 2 weeks ago I decided to sell my PC laptop on ebay and get a MBP. I feel like I am in another country but I think OSX is cool. I recently tried bootcamp with xp and it worked flawlessly. Whent he public beta of VISTA came out I really was excited to load it in. Through some trial and error I got vista to load and my initial reaction was I am not impressed. Looks too childish unlike the mac which to me is very sophisticated. The eyecandy was not impressive- (could not ger aero to work) and after spending hours and hours on trying to get vista to work- as I type this on my PC my mac book is getting reformated, reloaded and restarted. I came to the conclusion after seeing vista run on my mac, I would rather use the mac as a mac. Enjoy it for what it is. When vista is released I will probably put it on my PC. Ultimatly the question is goign to be do I replace my pc with a mac?? too soon to tell as I realy don't have a clue how to get around osx but I will say I like what i see. Dreamboy Posted June 10, 2006 Share Posted June 10, 2006 I'm also a Windows XP user and I've tryed Mac OSX that I liked a lot to me. But this week end I finally downloaded Windows Vista Beta 2 and tryied on my PC. It's simply amazing. You need to see Aero Glass working. On my office PC it not supported Aero Glass and I was also very disapointed. Then installed on my home PC and was blows away by the new graphic interface. Is simply amazing. I love it!!! Vista with or without Aero is like night and day. Now I think I will not care about Mac OSX anymore, although it liked a lot to me. NowI have the same on PC. Widgets, cool interface, instant search, Internet Explorer 7... Also install Office 2007 beta 2 and you will see what is the future of computing. :-) I know many people will not share my opinion. Depends on functionality, i.e. indexing, ala Spotlight, widgets, etc. But as I stated before, it looked like a skin! Here is a typical example.... HP COLOR LASER ON ROUTER: PC, you have to instal drivers, then manually install IP address for printer port, basically about 10 steps before you get it to work. MAC OS X. Click Plus sign in printers, it looks, finds and installs printer. Nuff said! Same thing when networking two computers with OSX, connect another Mac and then network, poof, it finds it and sharing is underway. Posted June 11, 2006 Share Posted June 11, 2006 Even better, ever tried syncing a Nokia/Motorola Phone's contacts on a PC Install Bluetooth drivers Install PC Suite Bang your head for not installing outlook, Install Do some COM port {censored}, Reboot comp and phone to finally get COM port {censored} to work. Finally like 2Hrs later it works. Thats for someone like who knows a fair bit and has all the required drivers and knows wht to do. For a newbie, forget it. It will take him atleast a day to figure out. In a mac, Plug in bluetooth module Scan and pair devices iSync will start, and offer to configure your phone Click Sync Maximum time to setup is 10 mins Also I love not having to install apps. Not having to trundle through the registry to delete stuff. Not having to install Windows over again every three months. Not having to install an Antivirus, Spyware scanner and a Firewall, as soon as Windows boots up after installing. Best of all. OSX doesnt seem to commit sucide as soon as my exams start. After a week of struggling to find where you turn some of the damned 'features' off, and where you enable some of the stuff it won't let you do any more, I uninstalled it. For good. I thought the interface was very Disneyesque and the features Fisher-Price compared to OSX. I'm sticking with XP on my PC and I dread the day when I am forced to move to Vista because some application won't run on XP any more. And I have no doubt that will happen. One of the nice features of OSX is that Unix base. Ultimately you can decide how much security, how much eye-candy and how much hand-holding you want. XP has a lot of that too if you're prepared to get into the works and tinker. It's taken me three years to get XP eating out of my hand with a set of specific customizations. In essence through a lot of work and research I've managed to tame it into doing what I want. OSX was much easier to customize. I have a feeling that Vista is going to be a very difficult beast to break down and condition. Hmm. non sequitur Posted June 12, 2006 Share Posted June 12, 2006 with all due respect, mactelman, the areo glass interface should not require a gaming-caliber graphics card to have one of the biggest new features to a consumer. i know many many people will be pissed off when their new budget pc with vista-c apable stickers plastered all over will not run one of the most looked forward to features of microsoftts new OS. i dont have a computer to install vista on anyways, so im gonna wait till the kinks work out to replace my xp partition on my precious mbp. looks like ill be waiting till jan 2007, assuming they dont delay vista even further. rollcage Posted June 12, 2006 Share Posted June 12, 2006 As someone that switched over from Windows recently, I've gotta say that OSX is sooo much better than XP or Vista. It's taken M$ until next year to finally add instant search, a feature that should have been in XP. The widgets are nice, aero is cool, and i like the new Media Player, but it feels like it's just a copy of what OSX is, except the performance side sucks. You have to have at least 1gb of ram, and you should probably have at least a 256 video card to run aero. With OSX, even 512 mb of ram and an integrated video card will give you a better experience. I like Media Center, it's cool for streaming my tunes to my 360, but I can (and do) do that with my Mac. Overall, OSX is still better than Vista, and it's several years older. Stick with OSX, for now, maybe next decade M$ will get it right and you can use Windows too. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Mactelman Posted June 12, 2006 Share Posted June 12, 2006 I don't like the fact of graphics reqirements either, but then again, it runs OK without them, as opposed to no QE/CI. I also don't feel like paying a premium price, or else I'll get trimmed down stuff. I really like OS X, I'm just afraid that this project may die, or Apple may make it too hard to crack, and I won't pay for their HW. I buyed this card one year ago for about 50 Euros and Aero runs great on it. On 2007 when Vista comes out any cheap graphic card will run Aero very fast. I'm impressed by the new interface. M$ already developed an instant search engine (it's called Windows Desktop Search and you can dowload it from M$ site and run it in XP), and I must admit that it is pretty good... except the fact that it crashes every 3 days and then it takes at least 2 hours to rebuild the files index (which is sooo Microsoft... ). Thanx for saying that , as i too have a GeForce 6200 PCI-E card and not looking to upgrade it in near future. Ofcourse, this card is Pixel Shader 3.0 capable.
