Hello,

I can't get restart, sleep, shutdown or audio to work.

Anyone with a Dell Inspiron laptop got these working?

I've got a two partition setup with Chameleon RC3 & SL on their own partitions.

I've used Blackosx guide several times before so this install wasn't much different. I made my own custom boot cd and used kext's found in forum. Booted the retail Snow Leopard DVD, Installed Cham & added necessary files.

UPDATE - Nov 7, 2009

I have a Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth card.

Bluetooth works by adding Dev & Ven ID's to; S/L/E/IOBluetoothFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/BroadcomUSBBluetoothHCIController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

<key>Broadcom2045FamilyUSBBluetoothHCIController</key>

Graphics Nvidia 8600M GT 256mb - At this point the Nvidia driver breaks shutdown & restart so I've used EVOenabler.kext to inject ATI drivers which perform mediocre. I can get the card working 100% but then that breaks shutdown & restart. DAMN IT!!! :(

I'm using PC EFI V10.5 which automatically detects the PCI cards; Video & Ethernet.

Sleep & Automatic Sleep now working

Sound - Works with VoodooHDA.kext

SDHC cards work with VoodooSDHC.kext

Does anyone out there have a fix for the Nvidia issue?

I have an inspiron 1720 as well. I used SuperHai's boot CD with a retail DVD to install.

Restart and Shutdown will never work - you will always have to manually turn the system off.

Sleep should work if you remove the nullpowermanagment extenstion.

Sound should work with VoodooHDA but you have to put it in /System/Library/Extensions (not /Extra).

Do all of your USB ports work? The 2 on the side of mine don't work and the 2 on the back only come up as slow ports with the single on the back left coming up as high-speed.

Audio is easy.

Go to Macyourpc.com, and download their ISO for the Inspiron 1525. Open up the ISO, and on the disc there is a Post-Install/Local Extensions folder. Go there, and install their VoodooHDA.kext. If by chance you have another version of that kext installed, uninstall it first. Also in that first /Post-Install/Local Extensions folder, is a kext for your SD card reader. Go ahead and install it if you haven't. After you've done that, goto the /Post-Install/PrefPanes folder, and install VoodooHDA.prefPane. Do not install their prefPane for the trackpad. My trackpad works fine already. That one just screws it up. Those two will give you sound, mixer controls, internal mic, and SD card reader. I have them working on mine, no problem. Works fine.

Now, restart/shutdown/sleep. They have a file called ECHIsleephelper. It fails installing on mine, failed dependency. It might work on yours, hard to say. I have not been able to get those functions to work either, at least using their installer.

Now, I used another installer, Dell Preboot Snow Leopard 10.6v05. It would shutdown, restart from install. Problem with that one was, I couldn't get my ethernet card to work properly, no matter what.

I'm still trying to get everything to work, as we speak. I just tried OpenHaltRestart.kext with no effect.

Also, I cannot get my "About this mac" to properly recognize my CPU type.

You have to use EvoEnabler.kext to trick card into using ATI driver which isn't ideal but it gets you decent graphics. It's the NVidia OS X driver that is causing the problem.

So in a nuttshell, Nvidia driver breaks Sleep, Shutdown & Restart.

Hope this helps.

A few days ago i was looking for the dsdt solution at the japanese-chinese sites, then i found a link has the dsdt for inspiron 1720 t7500 and a few kexts.(also a fella reply my help me e-mail and send me the same file) Now in the snow leopard, cpu cooler then leopard. Is native speedstep ok? I don't know. But i edited the fakestac9205(thanks to xbc, his applehda.kext was helped me in the leopard) and internal mic works again(without the slider again also). By the way, i don't want to break your hope but solving the shutdown problem seems impossible. I hope someone will...

Inspiron 1720

T7500, 256mb 8600m gt, BCM 440x(works in 32 bit mode, so i prefer 32bit), sigmatel 9205, dell 1390

Thanks for that, it's almost made my 1720 complete. Have a T9300 CPU, but apart from that all else matches. sleep works now, which is great. All I need now is the DSDT to match my CPU so that Speedstep works properly.

Anyone know how to get the proper DSDT to match a particular CPU? I have a T8300 CPU.

Hi All,

I've been lurking in this thread for quite some time leaching all I can to get my 1720 working. It's finally come time where I can give back..

I have my 8600M GT 256MB running QE/CI with no added video injection kexts or EFI strings.

I came across this recently and modified my DSDT to add the information and I'm happy to report that I can now use programs like front row and the fancy screen savers and all that the QE/CI options have to offer.

here is a link to the Fix:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1341303

Being that I am a programmer for almost 30 years I've been very interested in digging deeper into the DSDT and ACPI and see if I can't get more of the devices working on native drivers.

Anybody can point me to some good sites with information about how this all fits together.

I have already read the ACPI 700 page spec pdf. And I understand how this all works but things I'm not so sure about is the addressing and how the DSDT ties into the driver kexts. Having a bit more information from someone who really understands this stuff could really put me on the path to getting a trully vanilla install using almost all native drivers.

Thanks for all your help.. this is for all the good info I've found here.

Inspiron 1520 (BCM 440X)

I used this kext in 10.6.2 (64bit)and connection breaks after some time. I tested this kext in 10.6.1 (64bit) (Disabled W/PXE boot under BIOS options) and seems to work good.

I will report after few more tests.

I've pretty much sorted out my DSDT so that I have the correct P-States for my T9300, and vanilla speedstep works fine right down to a CPU of 600Mhz or so, if I tell it that it's a MBP5,1 in the Smbios. I'm also undervolting slightly, which helps keep things cooler.

If anybody is interested I'll post it up here.

Thanks alip. In addition I added ClamshellDisplay.kext to the mix (S/L/E) to put my Inspiron 1720 to sleep when I close the lid.

10.6.3: ClamShellDisplay not working any more. Go here ClamshellDisplay replacement: LidSleep.kext

Posting this here in case it's of any use to anybody...

It's a DSDT for my 1720, based upon the one posted previously on here. It fixes a number of things:

Working HPET (All 4 required interrupts being assigned correctly)

Apple Intel Power management works out the box

Fully working USB, every boot (Rather than randomly), all ports at full speed

Audio patched - deleted AZAL and added HDEF. Sleep now works correctly - doesn't wake up straight away.

Hard coded P-States with multipliers right from x3 to x12.5, all undervolted. Runs very cool and quiet.

Probably other fixes gleaned from this site, I can't remember right now!

Andy.

can you post your dsdt.dsl? I have a 1520, and everything is working as well with the exception of the pstates I did not change on mine, and would like to see how to modify those.

My setup in DSDT:

1. Fixed nvidea 8600m gt with qe/ci

2. Fixed IOATAFamily issue where it would say

(Secondary IDE is disabled)

My Extra directory

1. PS2 fix

2. VoodooHDA fix

3. NullPowerManagement fix

My S/L/E

1. Network Card

I would like to get the audio fix, PS2 Fix, and Power fix in the dsdt, and it would help if I could use your file as a template.

Thanks!

it was only the aml, not the dsl. I figured since you likely had the .dsl already on ur computer, that it would save everyone the need to decompile (I primarly use a pc due to I am still waiting on my os86 compatable wifi card, and don't have iasl on it.) Regardless I was able to get the information I needed already. I hadn't had much experience prior with decompiling from a aml file on a pc, but I shoul've attempted to try b4 I asked. Basically I was just asking to save myself a little grunt work:) but I got what I needed already.

Thanks

Ah, sorry, didn't read your message properly. That will teach me to reply when I just got out of bed! If anybody wants the DSL, just give me a shout.

Have you seen DSDT Simple Editor? I use the Mac version to open amls and edit them just like dsls. Apparently, there's a new Windows version (DSDTSE for Windows) that might be helpful in your situation.
