mucsoo Posted October 10, 2009 Share Posted October 10, 2009 Hi, I have an ASUS F3SC notebook with an NVIDIA 8400m G. I have QE/CI perfectly working under 10.5. I want to try 10.6, so I've installed it to an external USB HD from the retail DMG. I got a proper NVinject, a 0.2.2 one what the system could boot with. It seems that it was detected the card, and I could change resolution and had translucent menubar, but the system animations seemed to be very slow, not as smooth as Leopard. I've got a new kext what is working with 8400m G under 10.6 for somebody else, but since I've messed a lot with the kexts I decided to make a clean install and try with that. Surprisingly, the "Welcome Video" was very smooth and I had full resolution. After the welcome video I had the keyboard selector screen "turned in" with that 3D effect, with a flawless and smooth animation. Also, the blue background color of OSX is different when I have QE/CI and when I don't. It's more purple-ish when I don't have and in this case that was the right blue color. After skipping the registration and selecting the user picture, there was a black screen for about 1/10 seconds and the screen came back with the purple-ish blue background. I had to realize, that the system is still slow, even I can notice the redrawing sometimes when an icon bounces in the Dock. The interesting thing is, that I had translucent menubar, what I didn't have without NVinject. So I tried to detect if I have QE/CI with numerous methods: 1) Dashboard - it was fully functional 2) Chess game - very slow and more rough "pixel" graphics than in Leopard. Also I could move the figures with about 2-3 FPS. It was locked up after a few rounds. 3) QuickTime video - It was a black window. No, the full window is black, the title and everything. (the Welcome Video at the first startup was worked) 4) Screensaver - works, but about 15 FPS (in Leopard its very smooth) 5) Front Row - a big black screen and a few hundred error messages in the system.log 6) The Safari "Top Sites" is also black, and additionally the bar on the top gone insane. I've attached pictures of all tests and also the system.log and kernel.log since the last boot. What I've noticed is the NVinject's lines were in the system.log at the first boot and when I assume QE/CI worked, but it's now in the kernel.log. Does it mean something?
