InspectahM
My system will frequently just freeze. It seems that there are some processes which continue running (for instance, the spinner on a Google Chrome tab was still animating), but the system is unresponsive. The bizarre thing is that there is no beachball, or direct kernel panic, only a completely halted machine. The freeze generally follows a common pattern: 1) Input devices (mouse + keyboard) stop responding. Some items will continue to animate (iStat will still update, video + audio (sometimes just the audio) will keep playing. 2) A few seconds later (8-10), everything will stop (iStat will stop updating). However, some animations (progress bar, Chrome loading tab spinner) will continue to animate indefinitely. 3) I will reboot This happens inconsistently, and is not related to IO access, CPU temps, or network transfer. The system is unstable for 20-30 minutes after these events, and then I will get another 2-3 hours of stability (usually after three or four freezes). Console log displays no errors, other than my web browser calling the debugger. Originally, I thought it was Flash video playback which was causing my freezes, but a few just occurred without any webpage up. All freezing seems to happen when I have a web browser up, but since I am surfing the web most of the time, that could just be a coincidence. UPDATE: Happened with no browser up, so it is definitely an OS wide issue. My system is: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 nForce 750i Mobo 4 Gigs of Ram Chameleon RC3 boot Kexts in /Extra/Extensions: AppleNForceATA.kext AppleSMBIOS.kext Disabler.kext dsmos.kext fakesmc.kext IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext IOATAFamily.kext IONetworkingFamily.kext nForceLAN.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext NVinject.kext OpenHaltRestart.kext Anyone else having this issue, or know where to point me for a solution? This is driving me nuts.

InspectahM
I tried 10.3 with no luck, so I am using 10.1. It seems slightly more stable, but I am still getting freezes. I installed SL on another partition, and the system runs beautifully for a little while, but over time the instability seems to crop up. I also tried to cut down on the number of additional kexts I was loading in /Extra. My list now is: AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext AppleNForceATA.kext fakesmc.kext (v2) IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext IOATAFamily.kext IONetworkingFamily.kext (also in System/Library/Extensions) NullCPUPowerManagement.kext NVinject.kext OpenHaltRestart.kext The only strange thing I see on boot is: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out If anyone out there has a heart of gold, and has some idea what a fix might be, or what critical information I am leaving out, I would be really grateful. UPDATE: One helpful piece of info might be that when the freezes happen, I can produce a beachball by unplugging and replugging my mouse and keyboard. I don't know if this is the USB ports crashing, but generally the system will freeze up as well.
DanBadea
Hello, I have same problem but I hope that problem was resolve for now. Here is my post in the forum my post link Try to use another install method (is in my first post a link to you tube). It is very clean install and use chameleon 1.0 . Another options : try to download from torrents (google is your friend) Iatkos V7 and install in one of your HDD (total you need 2 HDD). Install Yatkos V7 (Leopard 10.5.7) and try to update to 10.5.8. Look if Leopard is stable. On the Iatkos DVD you have manny kext (driver) very easy to install. This driver (some) you can use also in Snow Leopard. Another possibility is that you usb is the problem, on my problem seems that usb is the problem, I simply put a low cost china USB hub an in that usb hub I put keys and mouse. At mine is possible that was missing some kext because yesterday at my initial install I add some(4-5) kexts. But the result at usb hub and this supplementary kext is a super stability from over 24 hour and believe me in this 24 hours I install / uninstall programs, I install Parallel and windows XP, permanent I look on online tv, I work on Snow Kitty and Windows and is stabile like a rock. I hope that will help you, I fight with this instability / freezes for 4 month. best regards and sorry for my english. Dan Badea
