Now i have installed SL on a second hard drive, but i don't have sound working and what not... Unlike the Leopard install "customization" area. Snow leopard did not have anything like that becuase it was a retail copy... So i did not have accesses to that nice little customization area to add things... So the whole point in saying that, is to ask, Is it possible to maybe just drag and drop (from Leopard to Snow Leopard) extra kext that worked in leopard... or do they have to be edited and all to run on leopard... If you want to use the fakesmc.kext from netkas and eliminate the need for desmos, there is a special version for 10.6. If you are talking about voodooPS2controler kext and you are running in 32bit mode then you can use the same one you had in 10.5.x There are other examples like those. Much depends on the hardware you are running and you didn't appear to identify your system specs. At least, I didn't notice it. The following are two good references for getting 10.6 running Stell's Bolg Reference list from the #snowleopard IRC channel When you said "roll over SL", were you referencing the migration of your apps? If so, you could do that during initial setup for 10.6 when it asks about migrating data from another Mac or another disk on this Mac. I have tried that and it works quite well. Ok, so; kind of embarrising... but i am not sure as to weather i am running in 32 or 64 bit mode... If i go to About this mac>more info>software>64-bit Kernel and Extensions it says "NO". Is that it? -Im just guessing... But i fallowed aryajaunda's walkthrough. (HERE). (If that helps.....) But after messing with SL a bit more, these are my CURRENT issues. (I will check them off the list as i solve them). -No Audio. {FIXED 10/17/09} -No DVD/CD recognition. -Every time i restart my CMOS is reset. (could be my battery, but talk about a weird time to go.....) -No wake from sleep. -No full restart (could be related to the wake from sleep issue). -Get erros when installing Final Cut Pro {FIXED 9/29/09} -Get SL to run in 64 bit mode (if possible..) It will still only be able to use 2GB of your RAM and it will still depend on old 32-bit Quicktime libraries. http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1053457 (also follow the link to the in-depth review at Ars Technica, it's an interesting read) OpenHaltRestart for Snow (find it at stell's blog) fixes all my reboot/shutdown/restart issues. Check your kernel flags in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist. if it says arch=i386 -x32 then you're running in 32-bit mode (32-bit kernel and drivers). You can still run 64-bit apps though (just like in Leopard 10.5.x). And if you fire up Activity Monitor, you can see all the system processes are running in 64-bit mode. I did not know FCP still had 64 bit probs.... -Is it just me? or is apple not making the best decision w/ 64 bit support... I downloaded OSx86 tools to help out in installing some kexts (openhalt for example). But it seems that ALLL the text i wan't to install seem to be grayed out... and i am unable to install them through OSx86 Tools... So then i figured i would just drag and drop them into system>Lib>Ext> but still... openhalt has no effect... Then i started to work on the DSDT patcher and i used HERE but still... i continue to have CMOS reset issues... So if you guys have any suggestions, please! Anyone know WHY i can't install new kexts? ****EDIT*** Well.... it seems i have audio now... I guess a 3rd restart was the charm... maybe... not sure.. But i was online and noticed one of the sites had audio and it was playing for me... so cool... Now i am currently working on getting my HV30 Recognized in FCP... It sees it in the (about this mac area) but FCP will not recognize it... (iv tried restarting and everything in the easy set up menu...)
