SL : couple of very annoying problems

Hi all, :)

Thought the SL installation was almost perfect until I found these issues. :)

Firstly, every time I reboot the laptop, it resets its system preferences (ex: I have to recheck on track pad preferences in order to activate two fingers scrolling .. etc ) -_-

Secondly, disk utility throws out an error saying " cannot perform repair per......" so I have to use "kext utility" as an alternative. :(

Could anyone help me out, please? :D

Thanks in advance.

EDIT

The second problem solved by reinstalling BSD.pkg.

Thanks to fellow members "ico" and "Master Chief".

I'm getting the exact same problem, are you using voodoops2controller.kext by any chance?

Yes, I do.

Not only the trackpad, I also have a couple problems with "time machine".

Time Machine does the first back up just fine, but at the following session, it starts backing up all again, not only changes!

I got so pissed by the fact that there isn't a solution for this( as far as I know ) , I decided to remove the icon from the

menu bar and did so by unchecking it from the Time Machine Preferences.

However, the next boot, the menuet on the menubar was back again!

Well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. :(

I think he might have meant that BSD.pkg solved the second problem. I've read somewhere the repairing permissions doesn't work until BSD.pkd is reinstalled and his experience seems consistent.

As for the preferences problem, I'm experiencing the exact same thing, despite having reinstalled BSD.pkg. I'd be really glad to see this fixed.

Thanks, that does make more sense now I've read it again! :(

I have no problems with permissions and disk util, but I guess this trackpad prefs problem could be bug in voodoops2controller?

I've had a look at the voodoo labs forum, and someone mentioned it could be a problem with the launchdeamon/launchagent not being launched when snow leo boots. :)

Correct!

The second prob has been solved. :)

Well, I hope someone could sort out trackpad issue.

PS;After reinstalling BSD.pkg, the permission prob is gone, but the volume where I install SL is no longer available from

finder. :thumbsdown_anim:

The FIRST problem is caused by none-fixed platform UUID.

First put this PlatformUUID.kext into your /Extra/Extensions if you use Chameleon2.

And then reboot...

In System Profiler copy the Hardware UUID string.

Open PlatformUUID.kext and edit the info.plist find section like below:

<key>PlatformUUID</key>

<string>PASTE YOUR UUID HERE</string>

and paste overwrite your UUID just copied with PASTE YOUR UUID HERE.

Close and Save!

Now you can set your SystemPerf and TimeMachine will work too.

Holy {censored} that did it!

I thought PlatformUUID was already sorted as I was using a script that was supposed to fill it for me, but after checking I found that field blank. Adding my UUID fixed the problem.

Thanks so much!

Thanks very much for your help.

However, when I try to save edited "info.plist" it throws an error message"document "info.plist" could not be saved". :(

Besides, somewhere along the way I made a cockup and all of my kexts are now in a shape of "folders" not traditional "lego block":D if you know what I mean. -_-

So now I have irritating trackpad, time machine and ugly looking kexts. :D

Please help me. :(

Sounds nasty, I ended up building the modded platformuuid.kext from 10.5 which I run from a USB stick, I then copied it to my 10.6 partition then rebuilt my extensions.mkext files. Once I done this, my trackpad prefs are fine. Thanks Allan C :)

All I can suggest is that you make sure your mkext files are up to date, failing that, maybe a clean install?

I'm still getting kernel panics under 10.6, 10.5 is perfect, but I'm still trying to find out what causing it!

Trackpad prob has been solved, thanks to Allan C. :D

Now my only issue is getting kexts their cute look back. :D

Thanks again.

Thanks MikeHunt79.

That was a brilliant idea!

I got my trackpad issue fixed.

Now other than those nasty folder-looking-kexts I guess my laptop is functioning O.K.

I haven't experienced any KP since the very first day of SL installation. :)

Well,it sometimes needs more than one "go" to get it started(boot up), but then what would you expect from the machine that is not supposed to run what it's running now. ;)

Since I'm a noob, I'm not in the position to give almost any advice unless I over heard it from somewhere.

Good luck.

I'm kinda of a noob also, but I think if I remove some kexts and tinker with my DSDT, I should be able to solve the whole kernel panic issue. I'm just glad I have a rock solid 10.5 install which is proving very useful in order to install and reinstall snow, as well as other things.

One thing about your funny kext icons, make sure "showallfiles" is set to off, other than that, I would not worry, kexts are directories after all. :)

Finally, what script are you using to automatically insert your UUID? I'm building a shellscript file from scratch, so I would be interested to see how it's done!
