Parallels in Snow Leopard

...but I do. Parallels would run perfectly well in 10.5.8 on my C2D E8500. But when I try and install it in Snow Leopard, it thinks that I don't have an Intel processor. Anyone know how to make my Hack aware of its processor?

On another note, I installed some {censored} "About this Mac" package I saw in another forum post, and installed it. Now it reads properly for my CPU in the About this Mac dialog, but I feel like it changed the size of the title bar in the dialog. Am I crazy, or is the title bar in the About this Mac dialog box supposed to be smaller than the system default?

But yeah, the Parallels problem is big. I would use VMWare, but it won't run on a 64-bit kernel, and my system is so much snappier on the 64. And everything works.

Any help would be freaking sweet.

Just tried Virtual Box. It goes through the entire installation process, but at the end it says that the installation failed. It doesn't give me an error similar to the Parallels "Intel CPU Only" error, but just doesn't work. I looked into editing my SMBIOS but there is nowhere that actually identifies the processor farther than FSB, clock speed, etc. Gonna do some more SMBIOS research, I suppose.

Well I tried, but unsuccessfully. I go into the contents of the installation mpkg in the Parallels DMG, and I see the "cpu_check" script, but it won't let me delete it, and I can't change permissions to do so. And what else is strange is that when I run this script, it returns the following:

Parallels CPU Check Tool

CPU Vendor: Intel

Hardware Virtualization: PRESENTED (VT-x)

Summary: Your CPU can run Virtual Machines

But parallels still thinks I don't have an intel? I guess I do need you to tell me how.

You have to make a copy of it. Just drag the Install.mpkg to your desktop.

Got it working. Not quite sure how I did, as I tried many different ways, but hey, it's working. That's all that matters. And parallels is a LOT faster than VMWare. Now they just need to release a 64 bit version.

Glad you got it working, but it's simple - you just copy the install.mpkg to your desktop, show contents and remove the cpu_check script.

My main problem with Parallels is that I can't get it to use my existing Windows install, so therefore I would have to have 2 and that just doesn't work. Support @ Parallels say that you can use an exisiting install, but it doesn't work for me.

Fusion on the other hand works perfectly with my existing install, and I tihnk you'll find that it'll do Aero real soon!
