BartNijland
Hi all, I have a macbook pro with a 9400m and 9600m gt and I recently downloaded the mac version of a great platform/puzzle game named "Braid". The thing that i noticed was that when i play the game on the 9400m the game is just unplayble because it is too slow. I had to switch to my other video card everytime I wanted to play this game. Today I got a solution and it's called: Paralells 5 . Yes you need to wait for 20 seconds before your Windows boots but it can play it very very smooth on the 9400m. Just wanted to let you know, so now MacBook users can also enjoy this game

I'm using a beta of VMware 3, which runs pretty good... but the answer to playing a game is .. run Windows? why even run OSX then anyways? Just install Windows and never use OSX again. devilhunter
Braid? Too slow? You must have downloaded my old Cider Port of Braid. The official Version of Braid runs fluid on my GMA950 mac mini. The unofficial Cider Port i made at the beginning of the year runs like {censored} on anything lesser then an iMac, although i wonder about the 9400M. The nvidia 9600M is pretty powerful, and the 9400M should also suffice. But since the 9400M is roughly 4 times faster then the X3100; the X3100 gets about 4 frames with Braid so the 9400M should get about 15 to 18 frames according to my calculations. but the answer to playing a game is .. run Windows? why even run OSX then anyways? Just install Windows and never use OSX again. now now, lets not push people over to the Dark Side is that a beta version? I'm using a beta of VMware 3, which runs pretty good... Any Word from VMware when version 3 gets released? Since you had some time to test it, how's Shader Model 3 support working for you? and here's the changelog of the new VMware Fusion 3 that gets released shortly (hopefully) -Full support for Mac OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard†including K64 -64-bit native engine for Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard for better performance -Full support for Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit virtual machines with Windows Aero, Easy Install, and more -3D Even Better: Windows Aero, DirectX 9.0c with Shader Model 3 support; OpenGL 2.1 support for Windows virtual machines -Migrate from Windows PC with Ease: much easier to move from Windows XP or Vista to the Mac with the new Migration Assistant -Unity even more accessible: start Windows applications directly from the new, always-on Applications menu, access to Windows taskbar tray items in Unity -New full screen menu bar gives you everything you need in full screen mode -Smoother, animated transitions when you switch view modes -Trial Windows download: Download and run free Windows trials from Microsoft -Support Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine VM
BartNijland
Wow, you are right. I have some weird ported version BTW, funny to see that the new beta version of Paralells has almost the same new features as the new beta of VMWare Fusion
devilhunter
Weird ported version? Don't talk ill about software you didn't pay for. I stated it was too slow for macbooks on Demonoid, where i uploaded it. I can't be responsible for People who rip the torrent and post it wherever they like without any description or the any Information from the Porter who did it. Things like these are the problem for Ports, i'm beginning to think that some of my Ports (like the Braid Port) did more harm than good. I saw my Braid Port pop up an almost every corner of the mac warez scene, (without any credit whatsoever) and the official mac Developer cursed about sluggish sales. About Parallels: The Parallels specs look amazing on paper, 8 Core Support, DirectX 10 experimental and such things; it makes the new VMware Beta look like software from last Year. But Parallels is generally not that stable, and has burned me many times. So i'm going with the 'slower' and 'not-so-feature-laden' version from VMware. Parallels often overstates and makes things sound better than they are... just like they claim to be a lot faster than VMware, yet when running both on my system VMware is noticeably faster.... I also haven't found anything Parallels can actually do that VMware can't... but there is some newer games that don't work right on Parallels 4 and VMware 2 that I can get to run just fine on VMware 3 beta... so the graphics is better. The only real problem I have encouterd with Parellels 4 that it takes forever to suspend/resume. VMWare is lightning fast.
