Hello all this is my first post in the forum. I've been trying to build a Hackintosh for the last week now and really need 2 pieces of advice.

1. How can I get Quartz Extreme enabled on my video card?

2. What is the best way to troubleshoot boot errors?

My system:

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 MB

PNY 9800GT 512MB video

I followed Lifehackers guide to installing the OS (http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2009/09/how-to-build-a-hackintosh-with-snow-leopard-start-to-finish/), then replaced it's EXTRA folder with the one included in this image (http://www.kexts.com/view/69-gigabyte_ga-ex58-ud5.html)

This install Flash drive seems to work...but doesn't get me quartz extreme. Everything I've tried in an attempt to get QE working either doesn't work or causes some sort of boot error. Once I've corrupted the boot I don't know how to repair it and so I'm stuck reinstalling the OS again.

Can someone tell me the best way to to repair the boot process once its broken? I've probably re-installed the OS 20 times now. I'd love some sort of "Take me back to my last good setup" type of thing...it would save me hours of time! Is there a file I can edit or delete to get the system past boot?

The errors I've run into are:

1. Failed Assertions on some Audio driver (boot locks up)

2. Kernel Panic on Processor HPET missing error (or something like that)

And a bunch of others I've forgotten.
