Simple [Fix] for IDE Kernel Panics on INTEL-ICH Mainboards

Hey,

this is just for the records.

The problem:

It is obvious but I read some topics regarding ICH mainboard users with IDE hds that still can't boot SL with Netkast's

AppleIntelPIIATA.kext. They either get a KP with the PIIATA.kext or they get a 'still waiting for root device' without.

Even if the device IDs are correct in the .plist of course.

The fix:

Just delete any AppleIntelPIIATA kext and any IOATAFamily.kext. Use Modbin's Kernel and install your old Leopard

IOATAFamily.kext (10.5.8 should work)

If you are about to install:

Drop the old IOATAFamily in E/E

If you already installed SL to your IDE harddrive:

Drop the old IOATAFamily.kext into S/L/E and replace it.

Don't forget to boot Modbin's kernel.

Don't forget to repair permissions (chmod/chown) and

Don't forget to kextcache it, if you are using an older Chameleon/PCEFI.

After that procedure the system should boot up without any 'secondary IDE Channel disabled' panics and detect your

IDE drive. Have fun with Snow Leo :)
