Thanks to ryuu123 and others!!

Was able to install SL on my VaioP P588E in one evening. Also, successfully upgraded to SL 10.6.1 after install.

The only issue I have is the Japanese Keyboard layout. Tried updating the VoodooPS2Controller.kext, but when I run extra.sh, I get KP when reboot. Installed it again... now scared to try the Keyboard patch again.

The brightness up/down works with SNC098 kext, but whenever the screen dims, the brightness reverts back to default... any way of changing this?

Thanks again.

hi,all

i,m a newbie in the forum and this is my first post~

i would like to install the "SL" into the SSD of my vaio p

i just finished the step 2." Restore OSX DVD on USB Memory A "
and step 3. "Install Chameleon 2 RC3 on USB Memory A"...

but i had no idea about how to Copy ryuu123's files to USB Memory A ?
/boot
/DSDT.aml
/Extra

please help...

Hi,

I just opened up terminal, cd to root directory, became super user and copy the boot and .ami files.
You can drag the files in the Extra folder from the finder.
If you put the vaio20090910 folder on your desktop, here is what you would do.
Open terminal
> sudo -s
Enter your password
> cd ..
> cd ..
> cp Users/YourUserName/Desktop/vaio20090910/boot . (Dont forget the .)
> cp Users/YourUserName/Desktop/vaio20090910/DSDT.ami . (Dont forget the .)

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

I have been following this thread closely.

My P11Z is arriving today. Got my SL DVD and a Runcore 64GB SSD at the ready :P

Going to install it on a 16GB USB stick first before I pop the Runcore

Has anybody run any benchmark software? (Xbench) I would be interested to see how this compares the the other scores of XP & W7.

Firstly,i want to say thanks to ryu123

without you,we can't enjoy OS X on our Vaio P!

and thanks allanm9 for the replied

i followed padebije's guide and succeeded to install "SL" onto the SSD of my P.

I express my gratitude to ryuu123 for his/her all efforts...
Finally I succeeded in installing Snow Leopard on my Vaio P. I'm not familiar with Mac nor sure that my steps are correct, but at least it works fine (of course there are still some problems such as "About this Mac"). I hope the following is helpful for those who are still in their effort.

[Preparation]
1. ryuu123's files (vaiop20090910)
2. Chameleon 2 RC3 with installer
3. Kext Helper b7
4. USB Memory A 8GB above
5. USB Memory B
6. OS 10.6 DVD

[Making Installation Disk]
1. Format USB Memory A (HFS+, MBR)
2. Restore OSX DVD on USB Memory A
3. Install Chameleon 2 RC3 on USB Memory A
4. Copy ryuu123's files to USB Memory A
/boot
/DSDT.aml
/Extra
*i just drag and drop boot,DSDT.aml and EXTRA onto USB Memory A.But when i try to paste boot onto the USB "A",a message pop up--"...boot is a hidden file ...fail to replace..."so i installed ShowAllFile.app to show up all invisible file. :(

[Preparation USB Memory B]
1. Copy ryuu123's files to USB Memory B
/System
2. Copy Chameleon 2 RC3 with installer to USB Memory B
3. Copy Kext Helper b7 to USB Memory B

[Installation]
1. F11 -> Boot from USB Memory A
2. Install -> Reboot
3. F11 -> Boot from HDD/SSD with "cpus=1 -v -f"
4. Set up
5. Insert USB Memory B
6. Install Chameleon 2 RC3 on OSX
7. Open Terminal
8. Copy the following files/folders as superuser
/boot
/DSDT.aml
/Extra

Now you can boot without USB Memory A.

9. Install 2 kexts (GMA500BacklightDisplay.kext and VoodooHDA.kext) with Kext Helper b7
10. Open Terminal
11. Delete AppleHDA.kext as superuser

For dual boot (OSX10.5.6 and W7), I used PC_EFI V9 Chameleon 1.0.12 (UInstaller). I'm not sure it still works fine on Snow Leopard. I really love my OSX on Vaio P, and deleted Windows ;)

And one more question:is there a way to enable the funtion of the "pointing stick/stick pointer/alps stick pointing device" ?....scrolling/tap to click...... :) thanks~

My P15G was pre-installed with Win7 RTM and I had successfully installed SL in a new partition (MBR). I used Chameleon 2 RC3 for the boot. Copied all required files into the right place. Everything operated OK except the followings:

1. If I boot from the USB installation, I shall have the 1600x768 resolution. But if I boot from the internal SSD, I will stuck on 1024x768.

2. The CPU is only operated at 800MHz while my P15G default shall be 1.6GHz.

Do need your assistance to fix the above. Thanks in advance.

Can someone please help me out with updating the VoodooPS2Controller.kext to replace the Japanese layout. I have tried to replace it with the one uploaded by RyanL to the Extra/Extensions1 folder. Then, when I run extra.sh I get the following:

I have had to re-install SL three times already due to this.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the Newbie Question. I followed the above instructions and also a guide for creating the USB stick in the first place [Guide] USB Flash Drive-Based Chameleon / Retail Install. Unfortunately everytime Chameleon tries to boot i get a "cant find Mach Kernel" error.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Nevermind. I think i know whats going on. The guide i quoted suggested i make 2 partitions, one for chameleon. I Just created a single image and now seems to be loading. Hope it works

Will I break my Mac OS partition/installation if I now install Win7 on the other partition I already setup? Will the beautiful Mac OS bootloader and Mac OS in general still work after Win7 installation?

Anyone got both, MacOS and Win7 running with this bootloader?

I don't know about installing Win7 on MacOSX but i know you can do it the other way, but first you must patch the OSinstall.mpkg to install onto a MBR.
I wish i found this out before i completely erased my Win7 install.

Yeah, I've already installed MacOS, so Win7 would be installed after MacOS!

Hi all,

I tried to install SL several times, but when rebooting after successful installation from the modified Retail-Disk I get a KP (no matter which flags set for boot).
I unfortunately don't have a camera so I can't show any photo of the message...

My great hope would be:

Could someone upload a copy of a running OSX for the Vaio P, with all the kexts and hacks that have to be applied!?

I hope someone helps me (and I think several others, too...)!

Yours,
Ben

You must be doing something wrong. I've installed snow leopard on my P around 6 times already without any problems. Here are the correct steps to take:

1. Restore Snow Leopard Retail Disc to USB drive (16 + GB)
2. Use Chameleon 2 RC3 Bootloader installer to install Chameleon to USB drive just restored with SL DVD from here.
3. Copy all contents from package from latest package by ryu123 as superuser from here.
4. Copy "boot" from earlier package by ryu123 as superuser from here.
5. Plug in Flash drive.
6. Boot from Flash Drive (either set boot from USB first in BIOS or select from Boot menu)
7. Install Snow Leopard.
8. Use USB to boot to new SL install.
9. Set up SL.
10. After install is set up, repeat steps 2-4 to the Partition that you installed SL to.
11. Enjoy your new feline flavored OS.

Notes:
You can do a dual boot (Win7, OS X) by using Disk utility on the patched SL Thumb drive to partition the internal drive as GUID with a HFS+ partition and a FAT32 partition and install Windows first and select the FAT32 partition. You can either install directly to FAT32, or you can reformat to NTFS. It's up to you. After installing windows, Install SL just as above. Now you will have 2 great OSes with a beautiful graphical bootloader. :) (I recommend the "Choose your OS" theme here. Just edit theme.pist to 1600x768 on all values that have to do with screen resolution.)

Also, I have had the best luck just doing everything in GUID, so do not ask me about anything if you use MBR and it messes up.

thanks for your answer!

But if I try to copy "System" from the package to the restored USB-Stick, I would have to replace the whole "System"-directory of the Install-package. Then I would not be able to install it anymore...

Well, probably my mistake is so stupid that you don't even imagine I could make it...

Okay. For the files in that folder, go here and get Kext Helper and just use kext helper to install the kexts in System/Library/Extensions of the package.

Thank you everyone working on this freaking machine!

I've got 10.6.1 up and running now! Wwan (German model), card-reader, everything appears to work (dock not tested)!

Anyway, there is a little "but" :) :

I sometimes experience battery is behaving weird. OS X appears to lose it, battery-led is blinking quite quickly and the battery time is displayed wrong. Sometimes a reboot helps, sometimes not...

I've got Voodoobattery installed...
