Hello,

I'm quite new posting, but I follow you since much time ago. I'm considering to install a Hackintosh. I have decided all components, but monitor.

Is there much difference between a LCD monitor and a LCD TV with similar specs ? I'm deciding betweeen LG W2453V-PF monitor and LG M237WD-PZ TV.

Apart from 24" vs 23", 2ms vs 5ms and 50000:1 vs 20000:1, everything else is similar, but LCD TV has more connectors, DTT and can be used as a TV or to play Wii.

Prize is very similar too.

What should I do ? Maybe I shouldn't mix a TV for a Hackintosh, but as i said, specs "seems" quite similar, and TV is quite more functional.

I pretend to use the computer for nomal usage, nor picture desing neither professional use. Just browse, email, see H264 movies, youtube videos... and so on.

Thanks in advance ;)

The LG W2453V-PF is better as a monitor then as TV. So more suitable for use with a PC.

The LG M237WD-PZ is more a multimedia/TV display then a monitor. So more suitable for multimedia use. e.g. gaming, HD movies, etc.

It up to you what do you do more.

Well, as much as I have experience with connecting PCs to Plasma/LCD TVs, a monitor is always better picture quality wise. A TV (even HD) and computing needs are different. TV is meant to be watched from distance, so a picture looks better then watched from a bit further. A monitor is designed to be watched from a very close distance, so a picture must look good from a shorter range.

One must decide what usage scenario is more usual in daily life. TV watching or PC gaming.

I would personally buy a monitor. In fact I have 24' Dell monitor with many different connections. Although I don't have any other signal sources then a PC, it can perfectly be used as a movie/tv screen. I enjoy watching moves on it.

I'm sorry for the reply on this old thread but i want to ask the same question as the user Clavit 2000.

What do you think : is there a difference between 32 inch lcd TV as monitor, and 27 inch lcd monitor ? I'm talking about the fonts quality, only. I would consider to purchase even a 30 inch lcd monitor if the fonts quality would be better.

What would you suggest ?

Thank you.

It's quite simple. A TV screen of say 32' with FHD resolution (1920x1080) will have THE SAME amount of pixels as say 23' FHD LCD display (1920x1080).

How could it be? Again, it's simple the bigger the panel is, the bigger the pixels are (a physical size of each pixel). Therefore it is possible to see pixels forming the image working with 32' FHD TV, while with 23' display these pixels would be less noticeable (if at all), since pixel density is bigger with smaller screens (provided resolution is the same). Take a Retina displays for instance. Pixels are hardly noticeable there, cos' of high resolution and relatively small screen size.

IMO
