After doing the Pre/Post Install on the drive I booted in to snowleopard and in about a second screen goes black and monitor sleeps....

I have the same problem too.

Hey that sounds good to me. I just read in a other guide the following instructions.

" Select it using the arrow keys and hit Enter to boot. This starts the retail Snow Leopard installation process. If you boot to a black screen, Start from Step 1 again and after hitting F5, hit Tab. You can try typing in the following kernel flags to get your video working. Try each combination. A visit to netkas.org might help you find information to get your card fully working after installation.

 • -x
 • GraphicsEnabler=n
 • GraphicsEnabler=n arch=i386

No idea if this work, but I will test it tomorrow.

Good night.

have you ever got OSX running on your PC?

do you know any computer basics like bios adjustment?

with the bad axe cd there is no need to type any bootflags.

@elrey

I am running Leopard with the Buildsmart bios with out any problems. My machine is rack mounted and watercooled to reduce fan noise. I use my machine to play around with Logic mainly. I have hooked up a Tascam f-1082 and a profire 26/26. This setup is great for live recording as well as mixing.

For all the other stuff I use an iMAC.

When I think of it, I actually do not need to upgrade to Snow Leopard as current set up do what I want. One thing I will do for sure in the future is to buy a real macpro.

Thank you for your help, take care.

I dont wonna harm someone, i just wonna know how deep your skills are.

You have to switch your harddrives to AHCI mode in bios.

I also had some problems to install snow leo.

I have disconnected everything I did not need to install SL, just the hard drive where to install SL and the DVD drive was connected.

True, if your system is stable, you do not need to update, but to work with more Ram you will not get around to Snow Leopard.

Thats funny, i have my bad axe 2 rack mounted too, but it is aircooled. I'm afraid of watercooling.

How did it work out for you ? I'm having the same problem. "Loading darwin x86" for a couple of seconds and then it goes black. None of those kernel flags helps either.

I used Ultimate BadAxe, updated my Bios and installed the bootloader, but can't get past the black screen when trying to boot the SL disc.

I may capitulate and get a Gigabyte board.

You are using it on an Intel Badaxe(2) motherboard? AHCI mode?
No, MA78LM S2 AMD Athlon X2 3Gig DDR2 in AHCI mode.

This is my config:

Gigabyte MA78LMT-US2H

AMD Athlon II X2 250 3Ghz

2GB DDR3 1066MHz

WD 500GB SATA 2 + DVD-RW SATA

How can I install SL on this config?

I have basically the same board. Have not been able to get SL running on it yet but I have a partition running Iatkos 10.5.8 just about flawless.

Thanks

How many kexts do you use?

Can I install iatkos 10.5.7 with an IDE DVD drive? and my HDD is SATA

All you can do is try it and see how it goes. I only had to use two kexts after install. For audio I had to use Azalia kext and I can't remember which i used for ethernet.

You know... this is getting annoying... I love my board, I've had it for years... but you're saying I have to turn on AHCI which means my Windows 7 is going to KP unless I switch it at boot and I probably can't boot anyway because I had an IDE burner? :/

Trash this board. Please.

buy ep43-ud3l

It might be worth mentioning that this thread is about installing SL on an Intel D975XBX2 BadAxe2 motherboard. Trying to use the info in this thread (or the Ultimate disks which target the Badaxe1/2 and a couple of other INTEL motherboards) to install on a different motherboard is unlikely to bear fruit but will lead to considerable frustration.

There is a kext that allows you to use ide mode.

Works for me and I removed AHCIPortInjector.kext, ATAPortInjector.kext and IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext

Oh yeah, I run it from extra/extensions

to install snow leo an bad axe 2:

Phase 1:

- get myhack final

- follow the instructions (means work with usb stick) stuck here!! Follow along the instruction and get KP when try to boot into Snow Leo install drive (a portable USB 30GB drive)

- install Snow Leo vanilla

Tried everything, remove my hardware to most simple configuration: Bad Axe 2 (Bios ver. BX97520J.86A.2838.2008.0903.1859)+ (2)x1GB DDRII 800 + 320GB HD (disk0s1: EFI, disk0s2: SLgoHere, disk0s3: Mac Data with a disposable 10.5.7, disk0s4: Nothing or sometime put the SL installation Dvd here) + XFX 7600GT 256DDR3 + keyboard and Mouse. That's it!

with that config, I tried:

Boot-132: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127330 Doesn't work!!

myHack installer: http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/ Doesn't work!!

Chameleon + Hidden EFI Partition: http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php?topic=649.0 Doesn't work!!

Chameleon v2 RC1 USB Bootloader w/Netkas PCEFIv10.1 patched boot: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182227# Doesn't work!!

------------ all went through smoothly without error prompted ------------

But still get KP or some case I got BlackScreen crash (no Video output, and system hang) whenever I try to boot into the installation disk, or boot the fresh installed SL (force install in a running 10.5.7 using the method of "OSInstall.mpkg")

Try gathered all the different instructions all over the places, and none of them work for me, very frustrated!

Someone there please help......

Not sure if all the BadAxe2 user here are all already moved on or just didn't come back often enough.

To answer my own post:

USB Flash Drive: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=199832 work!!

Just make sure that all the required files are correct. For me, it was the DSDT.aml that fail me on this method the first time I try. So I'll attach that here. And use -f -v the whole time until you have the permission fix (I fix it the sametime I install #####).

I actually use combine method between the one above and ##### method so to make my EVGA GTS450 to work properly.

1. use the first method to boot the installer, and partition and install 10.6.3.

2. keep that USB connected and boot with -f -v (you can skip the v if you like).

3. connecting step 3 of the ##### Download and install the 10.6.5 and #####.

4. Install the lastest Chameleon and then tonymacx86-NVIDIA-Update.

5. Done.

Still, my PS/2 keyboard, mouse, and Marvell SATA still don't work. (tried all the method that supose to work back in 10.5 none of them work in my 10.6)

So, if anyone know, please post your method. Thanks!

I gave up on the Marvell SATA on the BA2. I did try a SATA PCIE card as a cheap way to get more ports, but got spurious KPs with it. I gave up and bought a Gigabyte mobo with more ports.

Macs have had USB KBs and Mice for eons. You can get a good, cheap USB KB/Mouse combo that will save you loads of grief trying to get yours working, and keeping them working as OS X evolves.

to install snow leo an bad axe 2:

Phase 1:

- get myhack final

- follow the instructions (means work with usb stick)

- install Snow Leo vanilla

- reboot your vanilla snow leo with usb stick

Phase 2: Reformatting the EFI System Partition.

- Open Terminal

- sudo -s (and type in your password)

- diskutil info / | grep Identifier - this tells you the values for diskXsY for '/', which is the currently-booted system. (If you're doing this on a disk other than the one you've booted from, you need to modify accordingly.)

- diskutil list - diskXs1 should be called EFI. this is the hidden EFI partition on your target drive.

- diskutil eraseVolume "HFS+" "EFI" /dev/diskXs1 - now, be *VERY* sure this is the correct drive. this will format the EFI partition as HFS+. (NB After erasing it will try to mount it, but will fail with "Could not mount disk0s1 with name after erase". Ignore this).

Phase 3:

- install myhack on EFI Partition

- you can use Extensions for DSDT with my DSDT, but you have to change DSDT to your Graphics or

- use just Extensions on your EFI part, but you have to delete the Graphics in the DSDT

- Make the disk bootable

- 1) ./fdisk -e /dev/rdiskX (NB: Ignore any fdisk: could not open MBR file /usr/standalone/i386/boot0: No such file or directory error)

- 2) f 1

- 3) w

- 4) q

- run pfix in terminal

- reboot and cross fingers

it is very important to install myhack on hidden EFi part, because you would otherwise have problems with time machine backups

as you can see, most of my guide is Munki's methode taken from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=127330

Can you please elaborate on this?

I'm always getting a Kernel Panic
