EDIT: I Found What I Was Looking For

For future people looking for information on this board (EP35-DS3R) and Snow Leopard:

I have had Snow Leopard running for a week now using blackosx's infamous method (the Boot CD worked best).

I found a great working dsdt here:

http://www.infinitemac.com/f19/gigabyte-ep.../post34880.html

I used the one without GFX (I use EFI string GFX). This dsdt had cmos fix, ethernet, internal USB ports for better sleep, working audio with kext file given in that post.

I have also added this kext to my E/E folder:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=186653

And I get fully supported Sata ports (no orange icons). I run the 64 bit kernel and Chameleon RC3 with the following kexts:

AHCIPortInjector.kext

ALC899A.kext

fakesmc.kext

OpenHaltRestart.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

SleepEnabler.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

Honestly it runs so much better than the same setup with Leopard (10.5.6), its amazing! I have attached the kexts I use.

Do you use anything like VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop for virtualisation?

I have a very similar setup to yourself and it runs great except if I try virtualisation and then CPU maxes out - wondering if its slow disk io/access that is the issue?

Hi,

I'm running an EP-35ds3P. I tried your DSDT and it's almost perfect for my board. Thanks.

If anybody is running succesfuly the DS3P with a patched DSDT, I'd like to have a look on it to compare to the one I've generated. I offer mine in case anybody is interested.

I have the GigaByte EP35-DS4.

Will it work on that board? I am almost 99% sure we have the same LAN. Not sure about Audio. I have the Intel QuadCore Q6600.

I have both a Nvidia 7300GT as well as a MSI 9800GT.

I also have an Asus Maximus Formula X38 chipset board not MFII which is the P45 chipset board.

I bet some of the drivers will work from here on that board to.

The question is will I be able to make a Good DSDT on both boards? WHere do I find Graphic Strings to enter into the DSDT or boot.plist?

Hey,

I've attached my dsdt from my DS3P if you're interested. I can't claim it's perfect as I haven't tested absolutely everything but I have gfx (9800GTX), sound, sleep, basically everything I need. It boots and seems to work fine in 64bit mode but I have to use 32bit mode due to VMWare.

Kexts:

ALC889A

fakesmc

NullCPUPowerManagement

OpenHaltRestart

SleepEnabler

Hope that helps,

Bob

This fact drove me so nuts that I built a Vista machine this weekend that acts as my signature Hackintosh's slave- I access it through Remote Desktop and it works better than VMware since it has its own resources. Please note though that I never used Unity/Coherence mode (I hated the idea of the ugly Windows environment spilling into pretty OSX). But MS' program works great in 64 bit:

Hi Bob,

Thanks a lot for your DSDT. It's very different from mine. I'll take a deeper look at it this weekend. What method did you use to patch it?

If you don't mind, could you post your system configuration?

My system config is :EP35-DS3P/Q8400@3.2/8 GB RAM/Dual 7300GT/10.6.1-Xbench:220. without HD: 298.

cheers

Dude, you rock! This worked perfectly for me! I had SL almost working (had to use -v boot flag to get sleep, and then sound would stop working), I had USB, but not listed as built-in, system would randomly lock up or "find" a 2nd monitor at boot, and other random issues. Not I have sleep that works (I can even move the mouse or press a key and it wakes up instead of hitting power!), sound that works before and after sleep, no longer need -v, and no apparent random startup issues! I still use an EFI string for my video card, but that's because I plan on changing it out soon and don't want to have to recompile a DSDT (and possibly run into issues again).

Thanks, again!

Nice to give a little bit back to this community.

Here's how I built my DSDT:

1. Followed the awesome BlackOSX guide here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177497 although I used the DSDTSE editor that he mentions near the top of the post for edits.

2. Followed the DSDT patch guide here for audio : http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1229762 again using the DSDTSE editor.

I played around for ages with various AHCI/USB mods to get the system to sleep properly but in the end I gave up and used the SleepEnabler.kext. It seems to work fine although I don't use sleep very much.

The system will run without NullCPUPowerManagement.kext but the cpu appears to run 10degrees hotter but who wants their cpu to runner hotter than it has too?! So yeah, I used NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

Hope this helps,

Bob

Hi guys,

I've been messing with the DSDT for a while now. What I discovered is that certain fixes make my system to be slower. Much slower.

For example, after the last edition of the .aml file, my xbench went from 220 to 165. So I put back the old DSDT and I get 220 points again.

You coud argue that xbench is a synthetic test, blah blah. But I can notice the same degree of change on other apps that I run,(Logic Studio, for example). They reflect the same degree of performance change that xbench tell me, so for me, I trust xbench results, at least whit the apps that I use.

Coud you guys run an xbench test on your machines to see if DSDT editing changes performance levels for you? That would b very useful data!

Cheers

Ric

PD: I'll attach my xbench test for reference.

Looks like I'm not 100% there yet. After the system wakes from sleep, I lose the ability to reconnect my SAMBA shares via NETBIOS/UNC path or even DNS name/UNC path. I CAN however connect using the IP address, so there is that workaround. I statically entered a hostname in my hosts file and I'm all set. Anyone else having that issue can try the above method to see if it helps them. Othewise, anyone got a solution? No rush since I am working otherwise.

Thank again!

I seem to be having a rediculous amount of trouble getting snow kitty to work properly for me. I've tried several times to follow blackosx's guide and also use the kexts and dsdt you have provided. I have an EP35-DS3R. So I'm not sure what the deal is.

I have 10.5.8 working absolutely perfect using a setup I discovered whilst trying to get snow to work.(I intend to post a tutorial for this later, I'm amazed at how perfected it is.)

I cannot for the life of me get snow leopard to work properly. Poofyhairguy, is there any chance I could voice chat with you on skype and do a small troubleshooting session for my snow leopard setup?

I made a custom DSDT that I use for 10.5.8 but no matter what dsdt's and kext combos I try, it always gives me trouble with a KP or just a freeze in verbose mode.

I'm wondering if RC3 is what's giving me the trouble. I am using RC2 for my 10.5.8 setup and I think i tried changing the boot file on that setup to just see if Leopard would work with RC3 but I got issues with it... idk.

Right now I'm quite tired from a long day and staying up trying to get Snow to work so thanks for any input from you guys!

I have used RC2 and the correct PCEFI bootfile with success.

EP35-DS3R and all ok. Thanks for the kext´s and DSDT file link.

I mean every step has to be right. Use hairydude´s kext´s and that DSDT file without gfx.

Works like a charm ... Thanks for this ... I now have 100% Vanilla with Sleep/shutdown and 64 bit kernel working with Bonjour Networking. Kexts used

AHCIPortInjector.kext (works both on 32/64 since it is just an injector)

ALC899A.kext (works both on 32/64 since it is just an injector)

fakesmc.kext (64 bit v2 from netkas)

OpenHaltRestart.kext (64 bit)

NullCPUPowermanagement.kext (works both on 32/64)

SleepEnabler (works both on 32/64)

com.apple.boot.plist has got the video strings (for Nvidia 8800GTS 512MB) and Ethernet string for my MOBO..

I reckon its a MacOSX thing still...This seems to happen even with my MBP! pain in the ass!!

On a side note, What is peoples Firewire Performance like??

If I'm copying a file across to my external firewire drive, I seem to only get about 10-11mb/sec

Plug it in my MBP and get 50mb/sec

Solutions?

I'm also Running a EP35-DS3P

I'm trying to get my ep35-ds3r to work with SL. I'm completely new to hackintosh and followed this link to prepare an install USB with Chameleon. The guide is for another Gigabyte motherboard and obviously needs other drivers / kexts to work?

I used my macbook which I bought last week to create the USB install. (I used the SL CD included with the new MacBook)

Can someone please explain or provide me with the files I need to place in the /extra folder on the USB stick? I of course found the files in this topic but I have no clue on what to do with them.

EDIT:

I fixed the problem. The problem was with my ATI 4850 videocard. I used the custom usb bootdisk method and removed the ATI kexts so it would install in vesa mode. Then after install (which went successful) i booted in single user mode (-s) and also removed the kext from the installed partition.

Later I patched for the ATI card and now I have a fully working system! :(

Hi there,

I also use logic studio. I would like to get SL working and compare performance with you. so which DSDT version exactly do you find is working best?

Excellent post poofyhairguy!

Thanks so much for this. I have gotten SL to install via the boot cd and with the provided kext's and the dsdt file without GFX info. I then used OSXTools to set the gfx string for my 8800GTX.

Two issues that I have:

- Sleep is not working for me. My box goes to sleep (seemingly at least), but doesn't react to keyboard & mouse input once asleep, and when I wake it by pressing the power button the system restarts.

Curious thing here is that I have an Apple Cinema display, and the LED indicator actually pulses when the PC is sleeping AND when it was shut down. On a real mac it would only pulse when the machine is sleeping.

- I still have a graphics issue that I had with every build and every release: Performance in things like Quicklook is very choppy and when starting Frontrow the screen doesn't transition to black as it would on a mac, but just goes black instantaneously. I think all this is indicative that my graphics performance isn't what it should be.

Any advise on any of these two issues would be much appreciated!

Also: When installing, did you just use the boot cd provided by blackosx (for the EP45-DS3L) or build your own? I build my own with the provided kext's, so maybe that is the problem???

Cheers,

Alex

Getting sleep to work means being very picky with kexts, and repairing disk permissions often. What kexts do you use?

I use nvkush for all graphics now...

Glad to see this has worked out for you hopefully I can pick your brain on this and it might get me over whatever the heck it is that I'm doing wrong.

I'm trying to get my EP35-DS3R board to run either Leopard or Snow Leopard. When I use the Boot CD method ( using blackosx's boot cd), Snow Leopard doesn't even get to the point where I can get to the desktop and perform an install - it simply throws a KP. This could be because I have the 5 license upgrade disk and not the full disk so I figured I would try my hand with Leopard. Leopard does indeed get much further, going through the full install - but at the very end flags a fault saying that it couldn't set the boot disk * nothing in the PDF from blackosx's tutorial indicates that I should see this fault (so am I just doing something wrong?)

Additionally, and this is probably a real n00b question, can the *.kext files that you have for Snow Leopard be used for Leopard or do I need to hunt down a whole host of Leopard kext files.

Although I would like to install SL, it seems that I may have to install Leopard - is that fair to say?

Thanks
