Snow Leopard on Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R i5 750?

Hi folks,

 

Next week I'll be building my first computer, with a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R motherboard and an i5 750 cpu.

 

I'd love to be able to make this computer into a hackintosh, and I've been reading a lot of the installation guides, but I still haven't found one that's directly for Snow Leopard with an i5/i7 board.

 

If anyone can point me in a general direction (maybe there are other guides that might be worth trying, even if they aren't specific to my motherboard?), or has had success, please help me out.

 

I know there is one guide from some guys in S Korea about installing 10.5.6 on this motherboard, but what about Snow Leopard?

 

I'm patient and don't insist on doing this right away, but I do have my usb drive and my retail Snow Leopard disc ready whenever a guide does surface.

It will be a little while before we see a guide specifically for the i5, as it was just launched.

 

There are some guides here in the forum for i7. But Installation will be pretty much the same for all the gigabyte boards.

 

Restore install dvd to usb stick with chameleon and netkas 10.1. You should only need like 4 kexts in the extra folder. fakesmc, openhaltrestart, platformuuid and nullcpupm.(Maybe sleepenabler if you have problems with that).

 

Installing macOSX has never been easier than Snow Leopard.

Me myself, I'm worrying a bit if it will be even possible at this point. A lot of things about these new Core i5 and i7 chips is different from the previous generation i7. The PCIe controller for example has been transferred from the NB to the CPU so that P55 motherboards don't even need a NB anymore!

 

As I'm standing at the point of where I'll be building a new Hack soon, I'm facing the dilemma of buying an i7 920 with X58 board, or buying an i7 860 with P55 board.

I have this board and it constantly reboots with chameleon RC3 after the initial GUI. I don't even get to see the Apple boot logo. At this point I'd say: don't buy it yet if you plan to hackintosh it.

 

I get exactly the same issue albeit I'm using an i7-860.

 

In fact this is what I see when I try and boot:

Loaded HFS+ [mach_kernel]

Loaded /Extra/smbios.pllist

Patched DMI table

Loaded HFS+ [Extra/DSDT.aml]

PatchACPI version 1 DSDT

Starting Darwin x86_64

 

THEN BAM - it resets the computer and I have to start again.

 

No amount of messing around has changed the result.

Seems to be a kernel problem. I was able to boot to safe mode in 10.5.8 using a Qoopz kernel (9.8.0 v2) and chameleon rc3 (netkas bootloader didn't work). I was unable to start the Mac OS GUI though, there's always some sort of WindowServer connection error.

There's an existing Parallels installation on the drive I use... maybe it is incompatible with the Qoopz kernel (I'm using the file mach_kernel so that's not the problem).

No news on snow leopard on a i5 board ? (like the P55-ud4p from gigabyte ?)

I am seriously looking at that board for my new hackintosh/windows 7 computer.

I'm also looking for a review on the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P Mother Board.

I would like to upgrade my P4 which is having problems running the Leopard Server I have installed in it.

 

Consequently with this new upgrade I'm planning in buying a legit copy of Snow Leopard from Apple... or EBay... in order to run it Natively.

I'm righting a guide as we speak. You guys should be pleased. And now we know that support will only get better since Apple now uses the platform!

 

So coming up. Retail install guide for: Gigabyte P55-UD4P, Intel Core i5 2.6Ghz, BFG NVidia GTX260.

So far outlook not so good, I'm having tons of issues!

 

First off I get "VBL too high issues" which apparently are related to the gfx. I tried with both methods . Efi string and bootgraphics=y as well as NVEnabler+EVGA Kexts failed at solving the issue. When I play video it seems like it's playing too fast. I have all "turbo" options off in the bios. sysctl hw seems to be reporting my speeds properly. When I plug a usb device I get weird timing/sync errors and sounds is choppy skipping and plain fails. I did get RTL8111 native in 32bit and hda working. But the frequency issues are ruining it all! What the hell is wrong :(

I have 10.6.1 working in 32 bit mode on a P55-UD3R board using Digital_Dreamers Install script (in Tutorials forum see the thread on 10.6.1 on X58-UD5) with the addition of Qoopz's Snow kernel. The Vanilla kernel gives the reboot problem after files load during install. I use an EFI string for a nVidia 9500 GT card. Both audio and ethernet work after choosing the proper kexts, for the UD3R board this is a LegacyHDA.kext and the IONetworkingFamily kext from the 10.5 kext folder. The only needed BIOS change is to set SATA for AHCI and I set HPET for 64 bit.

 

If you have a working 10.6 you can install directly by connecting the drive for the new computer to that working install. Perform items 2 thru 5 - do not run the DSDT mod until the HD is in the new computer.

 

If you don't have a working 10.6, you will need two HDs in your new computer (at least to start) and one of the 10.5.6 distros (xXx86 and iPC work). Start by loading the distro on a HD (you will need "busratio=20" without the quotes as a boot flag) to load the distro and to run 10.5.6. Once 10.5 is running you can now install 10.6 using DD's script. Take note of the one time requirement to boot singlemode (-s) at the first boot into 10.6. these instructions are given on the first page of DD's thread.

 

Once you have that version of 10.6 running, now erase the first HD and install your final version of 10.6. As DD explains there are issues with installing 10.6 from 10.5, these can be corrected, but I have found it easier to install my 'real' 10.6 after installing the first 10.6 from 10.5, using the 'temporary' 10.6 install to install the 'real' one from.

Yeah I have it installed and booting alright, my issues come afterwards with errors I mentioned earlier

I'm current using BootGraphics=Yes with efi-string for the GTX260, but I tried NVEnabler and EVGA's driver, was exactly the same thing. I have HPET on set in 64Bit mode, all turbo modes set to off. I really don't know what the deal is :(

I just want to say i'm getting this board (Gigabyte P55 UD3) tomorrow too

It would be great if someone hackintosh experienced who finally managed a good working snowleopard installation will create a tutorial for this board.

Are you using the SL 10.6.0 kernel or a modified kernel for your install?

How did you fix it??? I'll look at the clock tonight, I hadn't noticed!

 

EDIT: You're probably right! I tried a different gfx, same result. Playing with smbios solutions as we speak.

 

Are you using the SL 10.6.0 kernel or a modified kernel for your install?

 

I've used Qoopz and lately I got my hand on a 10.6.2 kernel (don't ask, but Qoopz works fine). Same error everywhere.

Your signature details indicate you are using Chameleon. Have your tried Netkas PC-EFI bootloader? I am using his PC-EFI v10.5 plus the Qoopz kernel.

Actually I am using PCEFI 105 also. I've done 4 complete reinstall and no lucks. Hardware CMOS reset, nope. Different gfx card, to no avail.

 

I'm at a loss.

I've used Qoopz and lately I got my hand on a 10.6.2 kernel (don't ask, but Qoopz works fine). Same error everywhere.

 

So is the 10.6.2 kernel allow a vanilla install or will the scene need to wait for the 10.6.3 kernel?

Hey, just a thought. I don't have this board yet, but according to the thread linked by previous posters, you need to use a special Chameleon boot file to fix the timing issue. See Tonymacx86's original post for the link.

I agree with xsmurf. My set up is GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD4P with an i5 750 and 4GB DDR3 with a Saphire ATI Radeon 4850.

 

I tried using iDeneb 10.6 as well as Chameleon FRC3 with no luck.

 

I am going to try psystar's Rebel EFI and see if I can find an image of the OS X that come in the recent updated (October 2009) iMacs.

 

Let me know if there is anything else that should be tried.

llauradog: Yes there is one more thing to do... use retail. My install worked fine from the start with retail+qoopz+proper dsdt. The only issue was FSB frequency which I've now fixed if you look at the other thread by setting fsb=FSB_SPEED_IN_HERTZ
