GeForce 6200 AGP on SL

Hi,

I have an AGP GeForce 6200 that worked well on Leopard with almost all of the injectors(NVdarwin, NVEnabler, NVInject, EFI Strings, etc) but on Snow Leopard it just boots on a blue screen and then the blue screen changes to a darker blue and then back to the first blue and so on. Only with NVinject I got resolution change, but not QE/CI.

I heard on #snowleopard@osx86.hu that SL doesn't support AGP, but I checked IOPCIFamily.kext(that is where the driver for AGP resides) source from darwin 10.6 and it mentions AGP support, so i don't think they dropped the AGP support.

Anyone got any success running SL with AGP VGA's?

I have exactly the same problem, tried all variations.

At least I know that its an AGP issue....

Anyone who got it to work?

hello

I have the same issue or nearly

I am using GeForce agp 7600 GS on AMD

SL works fine except video

What I did is:

I took all working video .kext from leopard 10.5.7 and putthem into /Extra/extensions/

I cut and paste EFIstudio string in com.apple.Boot.plist

What I get is my video can't be changed from default (1280x1024)

Display is not seen from About this Mac it is 1440x900

So any idea is welcomed

Leon

Hi,

mhh, thats frustrating.

I tryed al lot either, with still no success.

The more I dig the more confused i get.

I with chameleon can use

- VBIOS File

- Video Rom File

- Efi Strings

- DSDT.aml

- different Injectors (nvkush, natit, titan, nvinject....)

So maybe someone can explain what exactly is needed and what is optional to give an idea what to try next?

Bye,

P

I have the AGP 6200 LE and I'm having the same problems.

NVinject and natit give res change but no QE/CI. I used an EFI string and it would not work unless I booted with the -x flag (but again only res change with no QE/CI).

I am really curious if anyone has got hardware accelerated graphics with an agp card in SL. Then we could at least know if this problem is card specific or a general AGP problem.

Well one of the biggest changes to snow leopard was the dropping of all the power pc code. Now it only supports intel macs and there have never been any intel mac pros that had agp. Only the power pc G5s did.

My point is that apple had no reason to keep support for agp when making SL. They probably droped It in their space saving frenzy.

I hope someone can figure this out but it doesn't sound good.

Anyway I'm still looking around...

No agps on the HCL lists yet

Hey people,

Using NVinject 0.2.1 i can change my resolution/refresh rate, but same here, using AGP Gefore 6200 (256mb), no QE/QI in SL, but QE/QI working fine in Leopard...

Anyone a solution yet for Snow Leopard? | -)

I still can't get this thing to work right. Still using leopard right now.

hey guys, i'm using 6200 pcie 256mb in SL, and it works fine for me.

except can't capture screen, run image Preview.app (it's ok for pdf) and can't run dvd player.

but, it's ok to run chess, mp4, avi, mov, 3gp and all video format.

for image PREVIEW, use MILKYWAY...

i have only 1024x768x32@60 and 1280x1024x32@60 resolution in my 19" lcd monitor.

i'm using EFI Studio. why you not trying to use it??

how to's:

--open EFI Studio

--select device, and find nVidia GeForce 6200 - xxxmb (xxx = total VRAM. mine 256mb)

--if u can't find it, use higher type like 8xxx or 9xxx with same VRAM.

--klik ADD DEVICE once, and new window will appear.

--click HEX STRING to CLIPBOARD on new windows.

--back to EFI Studio window, click Boot.plist.editor, enter your admin password.

--click dropdown menu (right side), and select GRAPHICS MODE, and then click on ADD TO BOOTLIST.

--edit the value with 1280x1024x32 (click the value twice)

--back to dropdown menu, select DEVICE-PROPERTIES, and then click on ADD TO BOOTLIST

--edit the value (click the value twice), and alt+V (paste)

--restart... goodluck!

@sm_arif, the reason why you can't play DVD and others you mention, is that your video is not yet accelerated (i mean your QE/CI is not activated)

did you try to delete Geforce.kext or NVResman.kext (Don't delete both) coz i've experienced that problem too.

Goodluck!

yes you need that coz you're using 6xxx series, edit the device id like this:

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

<string>0x02e210de 0x004010de&0xfff0ffff 0x00f010de&0xfff0ffff 0x022010de&0xfff0ffff 0x014010de&0xfff0ffff 0x016010de&0xfff0ffff 0x009010de&0xfff0ffff 0x01d010de&0xfff0ffff 0x039010de&0xfff0ffff 0x029010de&0xfff0ffff</string>

the underline is my device id put yours in there, you don't need to erase the entire entry just add you device id

i once read, that you have to put the device id into every kext which has sth. to do with geforce graphics. is that neccessary or only in NVDANV30Hal.kext, and do i need any other related kexts or injector ?

i'll try these things when i'm back home from work.

if i could get this to work, i'd be really really happy.

cheers for your efforts garko! :)

This does not seem right. I am using Geforce 6200 AGP 256, and it uses

NVDANV40Hal.kext not NVDANV30Hal.kext

Still, no QE/QI.. I also get the blinking blue screen when you expect login window

NVinject just gives me resolution and refresh rate change

Let us know if it works :)

I got the same problem and been trying almost everything.. I dont care if I need to run 32 bit. All combinations I have been trying with GraphicsEnabler=y in /E/com.boot.plist and nvinject / nvresman and the NVDANV*HAL.kext's from 10.5.5 gives me nothing else than 1280x1024 - and no QE...

I really hope you guys get it to work - If I get it to work Ill promise to post it here.. Good luck to all of you :)

@Pismo101

In my case i deleted Geforce.kext and injectors (in case you have installed), edited NVResman & NVDAN40Hal.kext and use EFI strings at com.apple.Boot.plist. When i tried to delete NVREsman it boots but i'm stuck @ 1024x768 Resolution, now i have all resolution displayed but no QE/CI.

here is my com.apple.Boot.plist:

its because Snow Leopard does not load NVDANV10.Hal, NVDANV20.Hal, NVDANV30.Hal anymore only NVDANV40.Hal and NVDANV50.Hal unless you install Geforce.pkg on it or other video installer
