I want to build a stable SL Hackintosh for work (Web, email, video-editing, etc), using Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R + quad i7 920.

I don't want to spend dough for a hi-end video card (~$100 for Geforce 9600 or ~$150 for ATI 4870, both of which are SL supported), because I won't be using all of its capability. There are some older cards like 8400 & 4850 & 4550 (~$40), etc, which are more bang-for-buck. Can someone point me to a mfg/board which has SL support? Also, I might want to fool around with SLI & Crossfire.

What brand ATI 2870/512mb & 12gb ram? Newegg has a good deal on the Gigabyte 4870/1gb card, $139 (after rebate). What PS & enclosure do you have? I'm a newbie builder.

Is video card compatibility more-or-less independent of vendor? (i.e., all 4870 cards will work)

Video Card is MSI i would have preferred to get a gigabyte or asus but all they had was MSI

i dont think it matters as all the chips are the same just different companies make the cards.

as for ram i'm using Gskill 2x6gb DDR3 kits 1333, they do the job and on my windows 7 partition i was able to utilize all 12gb with photoshop cs4 x64. not as expensive as some but work well

PS i'm using a Thermaltake 850W cable management a bit on the expensive side but i didnt mind paying a bit extra and has more than enough power than i need

for me my system is running leopard well, took me a few goes following different guides but luckily stumbled on what i needed and it's working with out any hassels.

Didn't have to add anything extra from what i downlaoded.

Not sure if i'm running in x64 mode and my hard drives are not showing up on the desktop

but can access them via finder.

so a few small issues
