Netgear Wg111v3 not working on Snow Leopard 10.6

Hi,

I have a big problem...

I am using Snow Leopard 10a432,i installed it properly and everything is working fine including sound,cd drive,etc...

But when i tried to install my Netgear wg111v3 driver,it didn't work...During installation it says that

 

'System extension cannot be used'

The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/RTL8187Bl.kext" cannot be used...

 

I tried reinstalling more than 10 times,but with no success the message keeps coming again and again.

 

It use to work when i had Leopard 10.5.2 or 10.5.3 and even 10.5.6

I tried to look for drivers for snow leopard because i thought there might be a different driver for snow leopard.But i could not find it.

i have a different adapter its a TrendNet TEW-424UB but it uses this same RTL8187BL.kext... is there a way to adapt this kext to work with snow leopard somehow editing the string values?

Wow I am excited i finally got it working ... you have to edit the RTL8187Bl.kext open it with show package contents by right clicking on it and then go into Contents / open up info.plist in any text editor or better property list editor if you have xcode installed and then last lines OSBundleLibraries and change the value strings for last 4 lines to be 9.0.0 instead of 8. something i can't remember what it was...... I guess it looks at the OS BUNDLES LIBRARIES to register that driver ... once you do that replace that kext with kext helper and you don't even have to restart you'll see your wireless thing flash before your eyes and working

 

 

hope this works for you guys my TEW 434ub 3.1 R works now

Think you could provide more in depth instructions? if this worked for you, are you booting 32bit mode or 64, and what are the file mods you are doing exactly?

this method only works booting 32 bit kernel .... what you do is open up that kext show content and edit its plist ... look for last 4 lines and change the string value to 9.0.0 and save then replace the kext and you should see it start working without restarting

I have strange problem with my WG111v3. I instaled drivers from Realtek webpage. Install went good and restarted. After reboot Realtek client utility was loaded and I choosed to what rooter to connect. I connected to my router. In Sys prefs WiFi was recognised but it got self-asigned IP. Eaven if I put it in manual I cannt connect to internet. I just dont know what the problem is.

 

In Leo everything is working OK

Help...by "gotta be in 32-bit kernelspace" do you mean to "Check open in Rosetta" for the application (in my case, Netgear wg111v3) via CMD-I? Or is there something else I am supposed to be doing about 32-bit?

Here is the fixed kext for the WG111V3 that will work in 10.6.2 32-bit. You still need to install the Netgear software first so that you have the WLAN utility.

Old thread, but I thought I'd reply with my success in getting the WG111v3 going in OSX 10.6.4 in 64bit kernel space.

 

First of all, I installed the Netgear Network Utility driver for the WG111v3 found on Netgear's webpage. The latest version of the driver is for 10.5 -- install it anyway. When the install is nearly finished it will complain about the realtek .kext not being installed properly. I just ignored that. BEFORE pressing reboot at the end of the Netgear install, copy the .kext pootify posted (http://www.zshare.net/download/74409337b64bf591/) to /S/L/E and run Kext Utility to repair the permissions & rebuild caches. Following this go ahead and finish the Netgear install, which will reboot your machine.

 

Upon reboot, the Netgear Utility should see the WG111v3 and automatically open. You may need to deactivate and reactivate the Netgear device in your Network settings (in System Prefs) to allow the Netgear Utility to take over the wireless stick. You connect to your WLAN through the Netgear Utility.

 

Hopefully this makes some sense!

I reinstalled in 32 bit kernel and everything working fine. I chose the adapter in the install settings using iATKOS s3 v2. Don't need 64 bit so no point having all the hassle with it

 

Actually appears to be one issue, after a reboot it loses the connection to the router and needs the wep key entered again. Anyway around this?

Fixed it Needed a profile setup in the netgear utility for the connection.

Yes! I've been having problems with my new iMac built-in Wi-Fi adapter/Netgear 834GT router combo - bought the WG111V3 as it professed support for MacOS '10.3 and upwards'. As documented here, Netgear have fallen very short, and even a call to Netgear support was fruitless ('You'll have to return your unit to the store I'm afraid sir, we have no drivers for 10.6').

 

However, this driver has worked for me - great signal and throughput - so thank you enormously for your efforts.

 

I've seen others having the same problem on a couple of other forums, so I'll be sure to link here.

Fixed!

 

Just install 10.4 drivers from here

 

1. Make sure all 10.5 drivers are uninstalled

2. Install 10.4 drivers from link

3. Restart

4. select The new NETGEAR in system preferences > Network

5. Open up Netgear WLAN Client Utility and select the network that you want to connect to.

 

This has been tested on a MAC PRO running 10.6.8 Not sure if it works with Hackintosh

I followed your directions and BAM! my netgear is working. I tried 2 or 3 different kexts related to the cards in my D820, but none worked. Thanks for the ehlp
