I've just wasted 2 days trying to isntal

Snow leopard onto my EP45-DS3

Finally succeeded install multiple install failures (GSOD with between 26-30 mintues to go) by removing 4 gig of ram.. ie from 8gig to 4gig....

Installs perfectly with blackox instruction in both 32 both and 64 bit..

stuck with 64bit..

Sticking 8gig of ram back into the machine leads to a GSOD during bootup..... which is fixed by removing the ram..

Tested the ram in another board.. its fine..

Memtest86+ doesn't work on the Gigabyte EP45-ds3.. fails to boot...

Three possibilities

1) Faulty ram... less likely given it works in the other board fine

2) Faulty motherboard.. but no other faults..

3) SL is this particular configuration doesn't like 8gig of ram..

Is any one running 8 gig of ram with SL on a similar board..?

i had trouble with over 4gig on a gigabyte motherboard but a bios upgrade fixed it, worth a go?

does 6 gig fail?

i've now got an 8gig system, fully working with sl

I noticed that problem back with 10.5. During large installs (e.g. System install, Dev tools, things like that) it would kernel panic when I had 8gb installed. I couldn't be bothered to muck about so removed all but 1 RAM stick and then the installs worked. Then put the RAM back in afterwards.

It is probably to do with the motherboards, mine is a Gigabyte EP45-DS3L. Nothing is faulty in my system, but just thought I'd let you know you aren't the only one

Works perfectly on my GA-EP45-DS3 with 8GB RAM. When I initially got the board, I put OCZ RAM in the machine - random reboots, strange boot issues etc. Swapped it for some Geil RAM and has been rock solid ever since. I think this board is a bit picky with RAM.

Really pleased with Snow Leopard on this board. Got Gfx, Sound, Ethernet, Sleep working great with DSDT and EFI.

The only thing I haven't got round to fixing yet is sound which has to be set to Internal Speakers in the Sound prefs after boot up.

If interested here's my DSDT and my full Extra folder:
