OSX86 Installation Guide for Dell Inspiron 1720 - Near Perfect

Surprisingly enough, I currently have TWO Dell Inspirons here, one 9400 and one 1720.

I installed Kalyway 1.5.2 on the 9400, without sound nor Wifi, and by... trial and error installed the HD with NO configuration (no AHCI nor anything) on the 1720.

And, SURPRISE, it functions without any problem, but for the sound ! It seems there is NO driver for the Intel 3945 wireless card. At least no OSX86 driver, as it functions OK with window$....

BTW; the Kalyway DVD refused even to boot on the 1720....

Actually I did not find any functional distro on this machine :D

I have iATKOS S3 v2 running very nicely (still manual power off however) on my Inspiron 1720 with core2duo T7250, 2gb ram and 8600mGT. If anyone wants the options listed I selected let me know and i'll post up my install selection.

OH YES I WANT IT.

There is my email (hoping not against the forum's rules) : scylla_the_1@yahoo.com .

Did u manage to get VOICE too ??

Waitin' for ur mail.

[EDIT] I do think osx86 is a GREAT idea.

But ....

i'm getting fed up about Dell.

32 bit boot

Graphic Enabler

-pci1

untick RTC patch, leave the rest of the patches

Sound = voodoo HDA only

PS/2 = apple

AHCI SATA

Laptop hardware = battery and card reader

network = broadcom 440x

the KP is related to ide1 aka pata..secondary channel dissabled error.. fixed with the IOATA panic fix "ide timing register fix" in dsdt. install from USB kakewalk. .. or plain chameleon2 with dsdt fix in usb

when I try this from Heaven Devine, the OP, I get kernel panic.. :thumbsup_anim:

does anyone know how to get the Synapsis Trackpad Clicking working on SL ?

"Keyboard and Mouse: Built in

To get the keyboard and mouse working with side scroll download "1720 bulit in Keyboard and Mouse.zip" and unzip.

1) Open terminal and run the following:

sudo -s

cd /Volumes/YOUR-HDD/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/

rm -Rf AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

cd /Volumes/YOUR-HDD/System/Library/Extensions

rm -Rf ApplePS2Controller.kext

rm -Rf ApplePS2Controller.kext.orig

2) open OSX86Tools

3) Select Repair Permissions / Set Extensions permissions / Clear Extensions Cache and click "Run Selected Tasks"

4) Click "Install Kexts" install "VoodooPS2Controller.kext" from the unzipped file to your HDD "

this didn´t work either:

Hi,

I'm looking to Install Snow Leopard as part as of a dual-boot configuration alongside Windows 7.

Currently I have Win 7 installed on my Inspiron 1720 laptop which has the following configuration:

CPU Type Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 4 GB

Network Adapter Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

Network Adapter Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card

Video NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB

Audio Adapter SigmaTel STAC9205X @ Intel 82801HBM ICH8M - High Definition Audio Controller [b-0]

Drive #1 - WDC WD1200BEVS-75UST0 (111 GB)

Drive #2 - FUJITSU MHY2120BH (111 GB)

BIOS Version A09

Here are my inquiries:

1. What guide should i use?

2. What BIOS settings should i make prior to installing OSX?

3. What kexts should I use in order to have sound, wireless, video and shutdown working?

Thanks in advance!
