drossxyu
I just finished building a machine ( my first build ever - from scratch ) based on the Gigabyte G31M-ES2L and I'm having a hard time deciding on how I should approach installing OSX. I don't own Snow Leopard yet, but I do have a 10.6.7 install disc that came with my Macbook Pro. I'm assuming the Leopard disc I have is only good for one license, of which I am already using. Is it possible to do a fresh install of Snow Leopard (the $30 'upgrade) without having to install Leopard first? I'd like to avoid shelling out another ~$130 for another copy of Leopard ( On top of the $30 upgrade ). Most of the guides I've come across seem to require a previous installation, although this one makes me believe it is indeed possible.

HackPRO Quad
Whoops.. I meant 10.5.7 You can always use the USB method. I found this guide, its for a different board, but should get you into SL, and then you can add your own kext files. http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build...start-to-finish
drossxyu
That's the link I linked to as well. Anyone have experience trying this (fresh non-upgrade install of SL via USB)? I plan on grabbing a thumb drive and a copy of Snow Leopard at Best Buy after work..

The only reason you need Leo is to setup the environment where you are going to install.
drossxyu
Could you elaborate on that a little bit? Do you mean it's necessary for me to use leopard in order to format my drive properly (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) before installing SL or is there more to it.. OS-Maniac
You drive doesnt HAVE to be formatted correctly. Well, not as far as I remember...
