Snow Leopard on Acer Aspire 5930G

Like in the title GFX -QE/CI works(no string, patched DSDT) and audio whitout Mic, but: speakers, line out/in works. Ethernet on USB (Dell DUB-E100) and replaced WiFi (Dell DW 1390).

 

I've used chameleon v1012, kexts and modified boot file from teknojunkie's tutorial and netkas fix for USB, modified appleHDA from gigabyte mobo and DSDT from ugokind tutorial (udoking You are big! THX for that guide).

 

I still try to figure out how to make that internal camera work.

Are you booting with vanilla kernel?

 

I have an Acer Aspire 5720G (in which I have installed 10.5.7 - with everything working except intel wireless) and I have found a workaround for the Crystal Eye webcam: I found that the application CamTwist is able to activate it!!

So for example, in order to use it with skype, I first run CamTwist, then Skype (choosing in the preferences to use the webcam called "camtwist") and I can make videocalls!

 

I guess it can work for you too.

.. and that's because actually my dsdt replace the hdaenabler.. but It's a remind of leo noob1x mod... not using voodoohda but applehda mod+acer plist hda+efi.. the efi is injected in dsdt and ok.. leo is working.. but:

 

in snow the leo's kext audio modded are not working and the snow applehda original cause a crash. so the only way I play now is to use the same dsdt (which is .. dirty -> HDEF with audio pinconfig) but using voodoohda for snow.

 

your solution.. can you add some zips? in order -for me- to add them to the big guide??

I've combined Your AcerAlc888S, dsdt and that weird AppleHDA from gigabyte post I've linked in the first post. Thats all . VoodooHDA didn't worked for me. I get also PS2 working from a dell 630 kext pack. Touchpad whit tapping and keyboard loading on every boot

 

Interesting thing for me is how to boot from eSATA, I tried everything :/ Using EasyBCD(and also replacing that .efi file whit chameleon 2 boot file), writing in the bootloader the rd=*PCI... or rd=drive..., no bios option for eSATA

 

The reason I want to do this is that eSATA is a SATA II connection so i can reach full speed on my external seagate HD, on USB it's not possible.

 

Ohh and a complete guide will be here soon. With all needed files in zip .

 

PS. there are missing usb internal(cam twist doesn't help) adapters: acer hd cam and finger sensor, idon't know how i done it but when i first(with KP on startup and after few minutes) installed snow leopard all usb adapter were on their place. :/ confusing. Even the camera worked better than on 10.5, but only once

 

PS2. I've got great news with a little bit of luck and few hours of work iI created a modified IOUSBFamily.kext that is supporting Acer Crystal HD and maybe will solve problems and KP's in other laptops

mee too.. esata won't boot directly from bios.. but if you install a boot loader.. and you have on the internal sata a boot loader too.. the chamel also see that in esata pen drive you've the snow ready to start!

really.. is the best speed/quality effort!

 

thanks for iousb .. but after the SAFE BOOT mod into appleusbuhci kext yesterday the boot stops after the setting of bradcom wlan.. booting in -v made me see nothing of easily solvable!

Yes my fault, it solved camera issue but generated another - hang and no audio, after another ten tries i got strange thing - audio and camera together Now i don't want to power off my laptop, because now I have all.

 

Here is what You need for a clean vanilla install, installing on MBR partition is easy. There is a guide on youtube where it is described how to modify osintall.mpkg

 

KEXT PACK

 

Kexts in extra put into extra/extensions and generate mkext using kext utility,

Kexts in library put into system/library/extensions (using OS X tools) and use kext utility after all.

 

Best is to do all steps in -x32 -x mode. Remember if you get a hang or kernel panic use -x32 -x and use kext utility. (I've got an error using manual kext cache repair in -x32 -s mode : Jmicron… bla bla bla)

 

Don't start with -f flag, better start with -v flag.

And don't use Kext Helper it only causes problems.

ok but.. -x is safe boot.. it's a not good way to work.. or is a way to do some trick and reboot normally?

 

until yesterday I had a fine boot into 64bit.. I had some crashes. . i.e. when I opened ntfs for mac.. that is not running in snow. i tried to relaunc preperences in 32bit (now snow have an automatic way to launch even internally 32bit applets) but .. crash

 

and crash when I tried to launch newer snow perian prefpane..

 

snow is not enough stable.

 

ps you've a disabler into extra.. is not needed with my dsdt and you use hpet and applecpupowermanagement

 

what wee need is a goos battery measure in snow

There is no other way to repair caches believe me I've tried all other methods.

You are brave using ntsf drivers like ntfs-3g or paragon may only erase your data on ntfs partition, be careful. I read this on other osx forum

 

 

So... better to delete the disabler ? ... Edit - I've deleted it and still working , but the audio is freaking me off :/ now when snow is booting in 32 and 64(Camera works) normally I don't have any audio.

another consideration: yes the nullcpu and the disabler are not useful with a true hpet and speedstep active.

So I get my audio back, how ? Weird, I've deleted the HDAenabler.kext from that patched AppleHDA and putted into extra/extensions folder, patched appleHDA.kext without enabler into library/extension.

 

Oh and my IOUSBFamily is an original vanilla with netkas fix (Safe Boot) no other mods to prevent from hangs on boot.

 

For this boot i have my Acer camera and audio... but for how long ;/

 

And how i transformed "line in" into a "mic in" as You may know Line In don't have an AMP. Megaphone app for iPhone solved that with a jack-jack cable.

and I suppose that your iousbfamily is equal to mine.. = retail snow iousb + netkas mod.

Please help make working 10.6.5 ApleHDA for Acer Aspire 5930 with ALC888S codec.

 

With VoodooHDA 2.7.2 output works, but the microphone does not work.

I'm already tired of experimenting, it does not work - help me please!
