I just got it up and running, but only barely.

Hardware:

Intel DX58SO "Smackover" motherboard, revision -501 All BIOS options at default except:

eSATA disabled, internal SATA AHCI, Boot Menu <Advance> (last one's personal preference only.)

3x 2 GB 1333 MHz Crucial RAM.

2x Western Digital "Raptor", 1x Seagate 1 TB drive (Windows)

LG "Super Multi Blue" combo HD-DVD player, Blu-Ray recorder.

ATI Radeon 4870X2

Software: Used "GA-EP45-DS3L-SL" boot CD (Chameleon-based) plus stock retail Snow Leopard install disc.

Process: Boot to CD, when prompted, eject CD, insert Snow Leopard retail disc. Install as normal to chosen drive.

Upon reboot, boot to Chameleon boot CD again, select OS X hard drive.

Caveats:

I have no network, no audio, and video is stuck at 1024x768, with no acceleration. Everything I have read says that trying to install any fixes for any of the three will cause Chameleon to fail to load properly unless you also do some other hacking, which I haven't gotten around to yet.

Hey what up!

I also got a retail copy of snow leopard installed on the DX58SO motherboard with the GA-EP45-DS3L-SL" boot CD but I guess I am stuck in the same place as the guy above me :/ I need to figure a way of getting it to boot with Chameleon but with all of the kext in place, I didn't get to mess around with it to much because it was about 3 in the morning when I got it all up and working, and after I installed Chameleon 2 rc3 it wouldn't boot up without the GA-EP45-DS3L-SL" boot CD in the cd drive and manually selecting the install drive. Obviously this wont due. If anybody has any further information on getting this method to work, it would be greatly appreciated, I really want to have a up-datable retail version of snow leopard installed as this computer, as it will only be used as a mac.

oh {censored}!!! so I got a retail copy of snow leopard working on the dx58so with chameleon and efi boot!

I followed this tutorial yesterday and now have my system running smoothly with snow leopard. I followed this tutorial

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=185097

you need 2 drives to accomplish this but I can say it works! just replace the appropriate kext and you will have sound, ethernet, and video card working. My system

Intel DX58SO Motherboard

EVGA Nvidia 9800 GT

OCZ 1333MHZ RAM

If you were having as much trouble as me getting this mobo working with snow leopard, then you are stoked now, this is a very easy to follow tutorial that is pretty much completely automated, I dont know much of anything about efi and dsdt and all that other mumbo jumbo and I was able to use this tutorial and get it all working. I hope this helps many more DX58SO users out there since it is a very superior mobo.

I installed Snow Leopard on DX58SO - extremely stable OS and straightforward installation by following instructions from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180954.

There are three install scenarios described in supporting pdf installation manual: 1) :P Using install CD (similar to Boot-132) and it didn't work at all in my case 2) :D Install from an existing Leopard installation - issues with file ownership made nightmare of kernel panic or hanged install - boot, 3) ;) Install using customized USB memory stick - amazingly smooth install - as long as you can preconfigure it with EFI string for your video card (EFI string from Leopard install works).

In addition to KEXTS that blackosx is recommending for 64 bit install (kept in E/E), you need Intel82566MM.kext and

VoodooHDA.kext (attached) installed in S/L/E and you will have rock-stable SL running in 64 bit mode (attached). The only remaining issue is that after sleep VoodooHDA.kext doesn't work anymore. (Recommended fix didn't work for me.)

Smbios and DSDT files didn't work well for me and I just removed it from Extra and everything works fine.

Use Chameleon RC3 from blackosx's package. Put com.apple.Boot.plist in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. Keep only basic statements from original install - add only EFI string for video card. Use the same one to put it on memory stick /Extra directory.

Intel82566MM.kext.zip

VoodooHDA.kext.zip

I have it running as well, however need to specify -v arch=i386 all the time for it to boot OK.

Issue is with VoodooHDA driver - as soon as installed, video playback in quick time breaks. Plus sound output available only from Digital Out. I have 10.5.5. running as other partition, that works just great. Still would love to move to 10.6. Used 2nd method, 1 and 3rd did not work for me.

Would appreciate any help.

I just got finished installing SL, everything works and boots up fine except...

I have to have a bootloader disc in that I got from another site, if I take the disc out and just let the computer boot, it comes up to Chameleon and goes to start SL but freezes at looks to be a startup screen (black screen/white font; looks like it is just reading a couple files). Do I have to update or re-install Chameleon, if so, how do I do this?

Next problem: I have a 150gb hdd and I wanted to create 3 partitions...one for mac, one for windows, and one for linux; but when I go to install Windows, I cannot select any of the other partitions because they are GUID.

**Also is there a fix so I don't have to change the hard drive disc configuration in between IDE and AHCI when I want to boot in between Windows and SL**

Only have a suggestions for your last question, are you perhaps booting to Windows XP? If so, then you'll need to run a repair install and press F6 with a floppy to load AHCI drivers... total pain in the ass. Or you can try updating the SATA drivers from device manager with the proper AHCI driver, then reboot and hope it doesn't BSOD. If you had Vista or Windows 7, they do AHCI by default.

okay...

3.READ THIS (no rush!)...(your controller is ICH10R)...

http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?topic=106575.0

2.You have that issue because windows installs native on MBR partitioned disk and you partitioned that in mac (when you partition the whole disk, the default setting in mac is to do it GUID). If you installed from a retail copy, then is the only option and you can't use the option (in disk utility) for MBR. So, if you want to 2-boot or even 3-boot, you must partition the hard first (from a boot cd with acronis or something similar) or install windows first , straight shoot, (MBR and IDE), then do step 3, partition the disk from within windows (use also acronis or similar) and then install mac.

P.S.: you can make a boot cd with acronis from another pc (install it there and then make the boot cd from within the program) or buy the cd :)

when i said windows i meant xp (vista and 7 you can set the AHCI mode from start and install, the disk will be recognized)

1.More info needed here. If you install mac from a retail copy or a DvD5 (also like "retail" with NO drivers included, just system files and some , NOT all, the optional drivers, so it can fit in a single layer dvd, here the label name, made by someone), and a boot cd(dvd) (with the bootloader, and installed the needed kexts after, because the "general" boot cd

have just the basics, unless you made one personalized for you???), and installed the chameleon on the hard, then you should be set. If you don't want chameleon on the hard you can still use the boot cd, but the system will load whatever verision of chameleon is on the cd(dvd) and run with the basics or whatever kexts are on it (so check the extra folder on the cd(dvd)).

You can install chameleon again the easy way with package with an installer.

P.S.: If you don't understand something, just tell, and i'll try to explain better, and also if you need any file you couldn't find, just tell.

I have it all running fine. ioreg reports 64bit EFI, but in about 64bit extensions and kernel reported as No. Who to believe ? Still did not resolve issue with audio. :) Voodoo driver sort of working but as soon as it is installed video playback jumps or freezes periodically. I have ATI card XFX hd4870. Not sure if can be fixed, I tried many versions of Voodoo kexts, with no or same bad results, i.e. choppy video etc. If voodoo removed, video is OK, but no sound.

Would appreciate help or advise from people who got it working ... ^_^

Thanks

Finally fixed and got stable install:

Juiceman install did not work for me as it requires 10.5.5. to be installed on ACHI in BIOS and I had iAtkos installed on IDE. Boot image is not working for some reason, gives me not boot errors listed on this forum.

Here is how it worked solid for me:

Install hackintosh using this guide (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=183391&pid=1282422&mode=threaded&start=#entry1282422) and retail dvd installation with latest Chamelion installation for /Extra (option with 2 HDDs). Download /E/E content from blackosx (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180954) manual and replace content of /E/E. Use network driver kext provided here for install. Don't install VoodooHDA yet. Make sure you can boot to 64-bit.

Here is the layout of kexts:

the script's folders to snow - Extra:

ATA VERSION ARCH SIZE DESTINATION

1) AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext 2.5.1 x86_64 280K /System

2) IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext 1.1.1 N/A 4K /Extra

3) JMicronATA.kext 1.0.0 x86_64 180K /System

Audio

4) HDAEnabler.kext 1.0.0d1 x86_64 108K /Extra

5) LegacyHDA.kext 888 N/A 72K /Extra

Graphics

6) ATY_Init.kext 1.0.0d1 i386 520K /Extra

Networking

7) RealtekR1000SL.kext 2.0.0d1 x86_64 256K /System

Misc Patches

8) fakesmc.kext 2 x86_64 124K /System

9) NullCPUPowerManagement.kext 1.0.0d2 x86_64 116K /System

10) OpenHaltRestart.kext 2.1.0 x86_64 100K /System

11) PlatformUUID.kext 1.0.0 x86_64 104K /System

Kernel & matching kext

(No files present to install)

Once you are OK booting 64-bit, you can put VoodooHDA in using Kexthelper. VoodooHDA.kext 164k in size provided for most of links will give you choppy video with ATI HD4870 card if installed and run under 32bit. Works Ok in 64bit install though. This is why its important to fix 64 bit boot first. Reboot with not options specified. Now you should have sound working OK...
