I upgraded my Macbook with SL by simply putting the DVD in and running install. Can it be this simple if my Hackintosh has a vanilla install of 10.5.8? can I just do the same and run install from the desktop.

If the answer is no then could it be explained why and then what the solution is? there doesn't seem to be a straightforward answer to this question in the posts I have read so far.

You need kexts that make your OSX talk to the hackintosh. It was the same on the last leopard but I guess you used a distribution which eased the process. There is a distribution for Snow Leopard but I dont trust it. Use this guide to get the ball rolling. I found this thread on the first page of tutorials so your seemliness is poor.

This script/program that I linked below is for the UD5 and it makes a hackintosh work completely from Leopard. Use the DSDT patcher only in the program if you dont have i7 though because the guide above above asks you to edit the dsdt manually which in my opinion is not noob friendly. Dont use the whole script if you dont have i7 because it does i7 only options..

No: Leo and Snow Leo use different kernels (drivers written for Leo wont always work in Snow and can lead to Kernel Panics)

If you only have 1 HD or 1 Partition your best bet is to make a custom usb flash install using your existing 10.5.x hackintosh

(this is probably your best bet)

If you have an extra HD or extra Partition you can attempt to install to that (with extra HD this is easy, with Extra partition you need to be aware of the location of your bootloader and Extras etc locations)

Thanks for the help - I got so confident because all software updates work from Apple without a hitch - I didn't consider the kexts that I backed up and restored in the past wouldn't work with Snow Leopard, Phew!! - I will wait then, 10.5.8 runs great anyway. If it aint broke........
