Snow Leopard without AHCI ?

Hey guys, yesterday, i installed SL on my SATA drive to boot it with Chameleon.

First boot in verbose gave me a Still Waiting For Root Device. So i tried to boot in 32 bits (with -x32), then i obtain a Kernel Panic. I looked in my Bios (I'm using a Asus P5K SE/EPU) but i can't activate the AHCI, there is no option for it. I tried to put Sata Configuration in Compatible, it doesn't work again.

Does anyone have an idea for my problem ?

Thanks and sorry for the english (i'm french :))

Same here.

On P5K-SE/EPU, Still Waiting For Root Device...

Same for me on a P5K.

I found a tip on the asus forum.

The Intel ATA support for Snow Leopard doesn't work for me. I've also tried to use PlatformUUID.kext and it is still the same.

I uploaded a picture of my issue. Is it the same for you ?!

Please need some help, how can i boot SL on my P5K.

(I bought the retail DVD 29euros and received it but i can't use it..)

this is not a KP

If you look the picture, you will see that SL is waiting for boot volume with uuid ............

After he says that he is waiting on <dict.......>

and Jmicron is loading

And finally --> still waiting for root device

It means that SL cannot find the path to load the system i think....

The kexts were loaded .. and from where do you think the loader read the kext from?

try this :

- Delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext & AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext

- or add NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

good luck :D

Hi,

I think I'm having pretty much the same problem. When trying to boot in 32bit mode, I always get an "unknown" KP once the kexts are loaded. The last line before the panic contains "mig_table_max_displ = 73". And there's no AHCI option in my BIOS.

And do not forget to add you sata device(s) id(s) in plist of Netkas driver (if you have ich9) and it works without KP...

Could you tell us how exactly to do that? Where do I find these SATA device IDs?

I think so. that was my problem too.

It should be "Got boot device.." if boot-uuid device found.

then I added my SATA/IDE DevIDs to info.plist Netkas's AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext. Solved.

If your SATA/IDE controller DevIDs already there, try another thing..

Go to BIOS Setup and set "SATA Configuration = Enhanced, S-ATA" or try other settings.

use LSPCI

It doesnt work for me ... :s

but something have changed before the still waiting for root device,

now i dont see the "Waiting for boot volume with uuid ........... line

I only see the waiting on <dict ID=0"><key>IOProviderClass</key><string ID="1">IOService</string ID=2>disk1s2</string></dict>

I don't understand why i stilll have this message

--> Still waiting for root device :/

@vbxeric: it would be helpful if type it manually :(

or just install LSPCI type in Terminal: lspci -nn

then copy+paste here.

or use OSx86Tools > View PCI Device / Vendor ID > Run LSPCI. it will generate lspci.txt onto your root volume.
