laatmaarzien
Sorry if this has been covered, but I was wondering whether anyone has successfully migrated to Snow Leopard as their only and primary OS, without having Leopard to fall back upon. To take it one step further, has anyone managed to install Snow Leopard without the need for Leopard itself? From a retail DVD or such ends. I am curious, can this be done? Has anyone had success with this? I have Snow Leopard working, but I am very interested in installing it from scratch. Any tips/pointers would be great! laatmaarzien
That's interesting, how are you going about it? I did read something on another thread about the EPIC CDBoot built off Chameleon. But Stella wrote that he tried it and it didn't work.
SticMAC™
I just installed what I seemed to be the last obstacle, Little Snitch! everything now runs perfect! I first cloned the drive to a USB then upgraded, everything seemed fine! After about 10min I thought what the hell, and Upgraded my running 10.5.8 and VIOLA! I've had no issues except for LS and I just installed the Snow beta, now everything is back to "normal" but twice as fast!! SticMAC
laatmaarzien
That sounds awesome... did you upgrade right from Leopard to SL? How did you do that? Do you have your 64Bit kexts in the EFS partition? Sorry, just quite curious.
SticMAC™
Before you get your hopes up....... Check my SIG, I have a MacBook, thats probably why it all went fine! I did try it on my Dell GX280 P4 3.2Ghz, and apart from having to run it from a USB HDD and still looking for a Graphics driver for the GMA950, it installed with the AMD/nonVanilla kernel method, in a post from here.... It also installed great on my MacBook(white) Core2Duo, and converted everything without a hitch SticMAC That sounds awesome... did you upgrade right from Leopard to SL? How did you do that? noob766
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182227 might get you close. chameleon doesn't seem to like DVD's so you might have to use an extra partition for the dvd.
laatmaarzien
That sounds good indeed. I have been watching your topic noob766 and the method looks quite sound indeed. I had a load of problems with KPs on startup and the welcome screens, and had to repair permissions/Extensions.mkext on the Snow drive from within leopard. I think that can be done via the Single User Mode as well. I will definitely give it a shot this week.
