Try this guide first* http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/guide-evga-...d-10-6-2-t3854/

First thing your gonna need to do is grab thesefiles

I'm assuming AHCI is already turned on in your bios as well.

Next from within leopard format your empty partition GUID, mount your installation image, once you have the splash screen open go inside the files folder newly downloaded in the chgfndr directory and double click on CF-A, this will make more folders visible inside the snow install splash screen. Scroll down to the System/Installation/Packages/ directory and double click on OSinstall.mpkg. After doing so, you can now close go back into the chgfndr folder and hit CF-R to make the files back invisible again. Make sure you customize your install options and deselect printer drivers, they will cause the installation to fail. Complete the install to the empty partition.

Next after the install has completed, go back in the files directory you downloaded and click on the chameleon install 431 package and install with defaults to the snow directory. Then after, install the Chameleon V2 pkg to the snow directory as well.

Ok next go inside your Snow drive root directory enter the folder called Extra. The first thing your gonna want to do is adjust the boot.plist for your graphics needs. If your unsure on this part reply in this thread, i'm sure most readers can get you up and running with getting your EFI capable devices added to the plist.

For those who have generated your graphics card options in the plist go ahead and delete the existing extensions folder in your snow/extra and copy the Extensions folder, Extensions.mkext, smbios.plist, and dsdt.aml into the Extra folder directory of snow. Also make sure you copy the dsdt.aml file to the root of the snow drive as well. The dsdt.aml file has been fixed to fix the issue with cmos reset and should be compatible with the x58, and x58 classified. The Extensions folder has all the files needed to boot as well as the latest fakemsc and nullcpupowermanagement. All kexts included are 32/64bit compatible.

For those of you with ATI cards and one's that only work with injectors you'll have to research which kext's you need or need to modify in order to get your cards working. I'm using an nvidia card so i couldnt work through this process. I've included mkextmaker if you happen to need to modify the Extensions folder directory in the set of files i've included.

The next thing we're gonna do now is go ahead and reboot into your snow partition and flag -x -v to watch it do its thing, complete the setup process and once you login, browse to the directory of the files you downloaded from me and run the kextUtility dmg provided. This will fix the issues with kernel panic from file indexing and etc.

After that is complete reboot back into your snow partition normally and launch kext helper from the files provided. We need to install the voodooHDA kext from either the extensions folder in the files i provided or in your snow root from within the extra/extensions directory. For some reason this kext only works from the S/L/E directory. After install reboot and you should have audio and be all set.

In process: a working jmicronATA.kext for our boards so we arent only limited to using the black ports controlled by ICH10. Any devices in red ports will not be recognized until then. Also still no sleep support.

Good Luck

JaE-V, that's a great guide, I'll get into it right now, just one question.

The guide assumes you already have another OS X version installed wich I currently don't have. I used to have one, but I switched my mainboard twice since my last OSX install so I need an advice on wich version to install first. I tried to install Kalyway 10.5.2 because was the last version I have and always worked like a cham, but after the 1st reboot after install it just never booted properly. it initiates loading all kexts and then the system restart =/

I also have iDeneb 10.5.6 (tried too but still failing) and XXX 10.5.6 (haven't tried this one). Wich one you guys suggest?

use that kalyway 10.5.2 disk just install with one of those alternate kernels and get it up so you can at least boot into safe mode to do your thing. its wont boot unless you flag busratio=20 cpus=1 you can be safe and add -x -v with that as well.

hello

i'm trying to use this guide on my Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

i know it's not the same board but it's the only thread i've come across for x58 chipset so thought it was worth a try.

i have managed to install snow leopard on a separate drive following your instructions, currently using iatkos v7 updated to 10.5.8 through software update. dual booting with windows 7 as well with chameleon bootloader that came with the iatkos distro

this is where i'm stuck i installed chameleon install 431 package to the snow leopard drive, but when i choose to install Chameleon V2 pkg i get an error saying (please install Chameleon v2. This snow leopard support will not function correctly with out Chameleon v2 already installed)

have i missed something or is it nor possible for me to do this on my board

i tried a restart and the snow leopard appeared in the chameleon bootloader i've been using

i get as far as the apple logo then a kernel panic occurs

my specs

MB Ex58-UD4P

cpu: i7 920

Graphics: ati 4870HD

ram: gskill 12gb

thanks in advance

Hey static post your system specs in your sig, also make sure you have your sata drive in the black ports and AHCI is turned on in the bios in all sections possible. In pata/sata configuration should be the first and last two options.

Hi JaE-V...

thanks for you kind guide.

I tried...somewhat failed.

I think my buidl is just like yours except VGA, mine ATI 3870.

Anyway, I though I could get the driver fixed for VGA later, and just go ahead following your guide exactly.

But after booting with -x -v, I got stuck. Please, check the image and if you can, help me.

Thanks again!

Same error as the one posted in the previous image?

Also guys, try and make sure when your booting up and making sure your booting from the snow leo drive's loader not the leopard one, hence the boot files are different. That early panic is a bootloader issue

JaE-V, I finally booted to the Kalyway 10.5.2 and followed the guide. Installed the chameleon 431 on the LeoSnow, but when I tried to install the V2 package I said it coudn't find the first version installed (because I was in Kaly, not SL). I think you already answer how to solve this, by doing what you said below \\//, right? But I think would be good to updaste your guide as well.

I couldn't boot to the SL install yet, and one thing I noticed is that after I formated my disk as GUID anytime I try to boot to it I receive the this error:

The only way to boot is with the BootCD, is this correct?

Are you guys customizing the installation of the v2 installer package to point to the snow partition?

Yes, after installing Cham r431.pkg, cham V2 installed into the same target drive...

Since you uploaded the boot file, I will try to copy that into the snow root. and try again...thanks

I can't reach the part on the installer to choose where to install, on the first screen of the installer it says it couldn't find the first install.

Whats your hdd configuration?...

It's a 200GB SATA II plugged on the first black sata port and configured as AHCI. I have 3 partitions on it: MacOSX (100GB), Kalyway (40GB) and Trasnfer (rest - FAT32).

Hi

I have a empty HDD, which I'm using for the sl install.

So, I followed your guide from a seperate leopard hdd to another HDD for SL.

Sorry the pix was too big...I resized it!

For those that have a hard time following this guide or have a problem with the bootloader or files i posted you can use this guide, i just tested it and it works perfectly fine as well, its almost based off mine just uses an older pcefi v9.

Hey that looks good, all the files are registering, after the ethernet thing, it should kick into video! but if its timing out there your having a problem with your vid card. I've watched that process for a while, looks like your almost ready to go. If you find video drivers for snow for your card put them in the S/L/E directory of your snow partition and run

sudo -s
cd /Volumes/<<[SnowLeopard]>>/System/Library/Extensions
chown -R root:wheel *
chmod -R 755 *

reboot and you should be good "snow leopard" being the name of your snow partition

Yea your problem is because this guide is only for a seperate hdd, i dont think its possible to boot snow and leo all from the same partition because the boot files are different at the moment. Your gonna have to wait for an universal update to the chameleon loader for multiple partitions, should be out soon...

HI

thanks for kind info...I'm gonna try that!

By the way, I noticed that your Extra folder after installing chamelon was not included com.apple.boot.plist.

Since I'm using ATI 3870, I'm going to get ATY_Init.kext from DD's patch, but I don't think this kext supports for 64 of SL. So, I want to start SL booting with only 32 bit thru fixing com.apple.boot.plist.

Can you help me on this? How it can be done?

Thanks again.
