It loads I select the volume for the snow leo and It starts oh and Ive selected the ps2 pach for my keyboard. And in the end it restart itself and after the reboot when I choose the snow Leo partition it does not load. When use the -v boot flag it say something like

Loading kernel mach_kernel
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230240
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230240

My sistem is

MB: Gigabyte 945GZM-S2 rev 3.9

CPU: Pendium Dual-core 1.6 Ghz

Memory: 1Gb DDRII

HD: Seagate 250Gb 7200 RPM 8mb SATA 3.0GB/s

you got a bad distro.

you mean that SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5.iso is bad one ? what should i Use ?

I think you should try retail install instead

and about the retail install. well I got about 170gb of information that is in ntfs volume and cat reformat my hard drive because of that :D I'm gonna buy some usb HDD but until then I use MBR and retail installation is no good for MBR or I've heard so :D If there's a way to install retail copy of OSX on MBR Formated drive would be really nice :(

I can confirm for an ECS 945GZT-M motherboard. I followed the AMD instructions. I use the nVidia 9400GT so that was working with the correct EFI String. (Unsure GMA950 will work - have not tested). If you are willing to try, I can give you some tips. It requires much patience but you will have more control over your installation than a prepackaged distro.

I will separate the tips into two sections. The first section goes over making an unpatched vanilla install to play with. Use this to tinker and patch so it will run.

* Install Snow Leopard from a working leopard machine onto a secondary drive. You can do this by opening terminal and typing:

open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

* Patch the drive to get it up and running in the most basic level of function. In order to do this you will need to stop here and skip to the next section. I explain why you have to do this below.

* YOU WILL NEED TO Install Snow Leopard from Snow Leopard again! This is because you will get SERIOUS permissions issue from installing Snow Leopard from Leopard. Unfortunately, retail boot was not an option so I had to make a working install then remake it again from Snow Leopard.

* Repatch your new SnowLeo from SnowLeo install

* If you have 10.5 settings, use migration assistant to migrate your old settings over from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Be careful what you migrate over. I just did the home directory to be safe.

NOTE: If you have a working vanilla imac or macbook you can cut the middle man and just boot retail and install on a separate disk. I did my vanilla install at work and immediately made a clone of it using Carbon Copy Cloner so I can keep an untouched copy (as a dmg backup) and re-clone it from this dmg if I mess something up. This allows me to have a nice fresh vanilla install of 10.6 to tinker and destroy without touching my working install. It really made life easier for me.

The second section is about patching. Follow these steps from this thread:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181876

* Use the kexts from the threat above.

* Make sure you visit the AMD thread above for more information on the modbin kernel.

* Replace the IOATAFamily and place the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

* Place all other kexts in the /Extra/Extentions area

* Use the bootloaders from the AMD thread. I had no luck using the modbin kernel with Chameleon r431 and better luck with r640. The thread has all the necessary files and kexts!

* Do not forget to use the kext utility to rebuild your caches.

Note: I cannot get 64bit with this kernel. I personally prefer the 32bit kernel but anyone who is looking to go 64bit will have until another kernel or method is released.

So I was reading some articles about this and in the end I found the reason why Snow Leo Wont start it was because of the boot loader. I've used chameleon v1.0.1 but the needed version is 2 :( so after installing chameleon 2 it start but at some point I get kernel panic so now i'll try the AMD kernel thanks for the huge reply :D Ill try this method if changing of the kernel does not work :D

Thank again :(

In the end every method give me a kernel panic like that http://tinyurl.com/mm5br4

Did you replace the IOATAFamily and place the AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions? Did you make sure to use the right UUID files and the kernel extensions from that AMD article?

Are you using these extentions:

Kernel for amd Snow 10a432

AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext

IOATAFamily

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

OpenHalRestart.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

Also use the Chameleon 2 r640 and boot file from here

One final thing, did you set the proper permissions for the mach_kernel when you replaced it? I believe it is chmod 655, chown root:staff for the mach kernel. The kernel extensions should be: chmod -R 755 and chown -R root:wheel

If you are still having issues I can post the files later when I get home.

Good luck!

I have Gigabyte 945GP - L (see signature for rest)

at first try I got the same first stop:

Loading kernel mach_kernel
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230240
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230240

I've been trying all sorts of guides and installs (retail, that "universal" one and the initial GM). I managed to get to the next KP like above by fixnig UUID, trying different 'boot' files (having the (then) recommended kexts installed and set 'root:wheel' and '775'.

Some 'legacy' kexts (found in another guide - i think IOACHI and/or such) changed the KP indicating conflict with AppleIntelPIIXATA and IOATA (maybe another one more). Not having replacements that worked I copied the Leo ones to humour my self (had gone bizare by that time:o), but that got me pass that KP endin in a 'Wainting for DSMOS' infinite '..x5' loop

I'll try again tonight with the instructions here to see if any luck..

Any advice?

PS. I don't have string for my video card (ATI Radeon 2600 Pro HD) for my 'com.apple.Boot.plist' and it's not in the DST Patcher list..

EDIT: Installed again, got over that KP, ended here:

http://i30.tinypic.com/eq5zzn.jpg

(tried nullAppleIntelCpu.., tried deleting AppleIntelCPU..) ..

suggestions?

PS. kext utility helped to pass the KP, from leopard dragging the kexts from snow onto the application

(sorry for the noob-ness)

Thank s

  • 6 months later...

Hey guys, last weekend I had my hands on a 945GZM-S2; such a nice little board!

So I was setting up Snow Leopard from a retail disk on it. You just need a couple of extra kexts to run it (and a good dsdt table)!!

Everything working: On-board graphics, audio (multichannel), sleep/wake, restart/shutdown, ethernet, speedstep. I know this is an old board but I bet some of you still have one of these around. Also if you find one of this mobos on sale you can build a 100% compatible hackintosh for very little money.

I uploaded the files I used here:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/zx0mw0zydyk/...InstallPack.zip

Includes a modifyed dsdt table, the few kexts you need (only fakesmc and legacyHDA), chameleon (needed), some utilities, and a readme.txt to get the things done.
