SL on P5B

4. I use my RTL8139 network adapter instead of the AttansicL1; all in all like in 10.5

5. Chameleon 2 RC1; PCEFi 10.1

Good morning! Mainly i followed lord_webi's simple guide.

 

First installed it from existing 10.5 installation onto empty harddisk, then installed on this drive Chameleon RC1 (important) without kext's from it and copied the PCEFi boot file from 10.1 version over existing one. Afterwards i copied the kext's i need to the Extra/Extensions dir, edited the PlatformUUID.kext with the UUID of snowleo-hdd, and made a *.mkext file. Then i copied my dsdt.aml and smbios.plist to extra/ and also edited smbios.plist with UUID of snowleo-hdd, and edited the com.apple.Boot.plist (screen resolution, etc.). For graphics i had to use the enabler and pkg for exotic cards from netkas. After first boot with the snowleo hdd (with boot flag -x32) i had to use Kext Utility from cVad, very important. I boot all the time with -x32 because of the graphiccard. In the Extra/Extensions dir i have:

IO80211Family.kext, IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, PlatformUUID.kext, fakesmc.kext

 

I have uploaded things i needed here, but it's same like in many other guides.

 

I think all in all that's it, it's not perfect, but good enough for me It's almost the same way like installation of 10.5 system, just with other kext's. But there are small things to fix, like the unknown AHCI controller, USB issues. I didn't checked sound, i never used the onboard sound. I think onboard LAN doesn't work or is {censored} (Attansic L1) but i use an old Realtek 8139 PCI card instead.

I've used dsdt file from here. It is for P5B-Deluxe but seems that it suitable for P5B too. Video stared working immediately, for sound I've uied voodoohda, search insanelymac for SL version as well as for Attansic L1.

While installing I had to switch SATA into ACHI mode, otherwise it gives "Still waiting for root device".

So far I can't startup JMicron controller (got kp ) but I keep searching

Finally i got it working. Followed the guides above with a few mods. I didn't find out how to make Chameleon 2 work on my mobo, so i used PCEFI v9 with SL support.(with netkas' 10.2 beta - somehow it worked)

 

P5B (2001 BIOS)

Set IDE mode to AHCI

prepatched extras, extensions folders, etc.,

installed through working leopard,

booted -x32 first,

used kext utility,

EFI string for 8800GT 512MB.

 

et voilà!

 

for now, it looks slow like hell

 

looking for something to make IDE mode work.

I've been trying to get OSX installed for months and keep running into a strange problem. Here's my hardware spec:

 

P5B Deluxe BIOS 1238 (Marvell Gigabit Ethernet, AD1988B Audio)

Ati Radeon HD3850

 

I can never get Chameleon to load. During boot I get a brief flash of text on the screen (listed below) and then the machine quickly reboots:

 

boot0 : GPT

boot0 : testing

boot0 : done

boot1 : /boot

 

I've talked to at least one other person on the Chameleon forums with a similar issue:

Is there any chance you guys could post digital cam shots or a listing of your BIOS settings. I have AHCI enabled and various other CPU settings. I can also post shots of my BIOS.

hey

 

i have the asus p5b deluxe wifi and it was the first board i tried running a mac on it

originally i installed iatkos 10.5.5 and updated it through normal software updates to 10.5.8 it all worked well with apps and was running well...the only problem i had was really bad mouselag

 

couple of weeks ago i reinstalled the new iatkos distro 10.5.7 and it's working great again even the mouse lag is gone. default bootloader is chameleon v2

 

i didnt change anything in the bios (running latest bios) just ran it the way it is...i even have an ide dvd rom

after installing i changed ide config to AHCI but now i noticed my dvd rom is not working

Finally got it to quit rebooting. Had to remove the install HDD from an external USB enclosure and plug it into the mobo. Getting a KP really early into the boot processs now, but its still progress!
