I am trying to install Snow Leopard 10A432 in a new hard drive. I followed this guide: I installed Chameleon in the new drive, added the kexts provided in the guide, replaced the "boot" file. Then copied all the DVD data to a new partition in my current system's hard drive. I can choose the new partition from Chamaleon, it starts to boot, and it gets stuck in "AppleYukon2: RxRingSize <=1024...." I believe this is not the problem, since I tried disabling the ethernet adapters and it gets stuck in the other message before that: "USBF: 6.109 AppleUSBUHCI0xffffff8091258000]::start unable to initialize UIM". The partition on my current drive is not the first partition in the drive. Any idea if that can be a problem? Can the video card be a problem too? Anyone knows what I could be doing wrong? Thanks, Rodrigo EDIT: I tried copying the install files to an external USB drive, between other files and folders which I cannot delete, and booting Chamaleon from the new hard drive. The boot process goes a bit further but gets stuck at - launchctl: Dubious ownership on file (skipping): /System/Library/LaunchDaemons nothing found to load - Then tried copying the install files to the destination drive, and booting Chamaleon from a USB stick. Gets stuck at: USBMSC Identifier (non-unique): [symbols I don't know how to write] 0x14cd 0x6700 0x201 (this is one step after AppleYukon2 lines) Isn't there a way to boot from the DVD? I installed using this method, copied the kexts, DSDT, and used a usb stick to boot from, but it gives panic on start screen. Any ideas of what can be causing it? Thanks, Rodrigo. Stuck in a message that starts with AppleYukon2, then I don't remember what it said, and ends in "nothing received, soft reset of chip". In fact, i only need fakesmc.kext and PlatformUUID.kext to be able to boot SL. I'm writing this response from SL now, boot with -x32 and my WG311T is working OOTB . I'll explain what I am doing, and ask lots of questions, so please check if there is anything I'm doing obviously wrong. HD1 has a Leopard partition and another (let´s call it "install") partition where I "restored" SL's DMG using disk utility. HD2 has 2 empty partitions, first for SL and second for making backups later when everything works. > Is it better to use the DMG instead of the restored partition? Is there anything that can "modify" the install partition so every time I use the installer, the install it makes is bad? Boot Leopard, go to Disk Utility and repartition HD2 so it's empty. (I always check to use GUID). Open OSInstall.mpkg from the install partition, select to install to SL partition, unselect printer drivers and fonts, select Spanish and Portuguese languages only and select Quicktime. It installs and finishes OK. Install Chameleon-2.0-r431 to the SL drive (from P5W.zip from THIS thread). Then use the Terminal to replace the "boot" file (from same P5W.zip). Delete kexts from /Extra/Extensions folder (the ones which come with that Chameleon installer) and copy fakesmc.kext and PlatformUUID.kext to the folder. Drag /Extra/Extensions folder to Kext Utility, input password, it runs OK. Restart. F8 and choose to boot from HD2. Chameleon loads, write -x -v and press Enter. Seems to start booting OK, until it reaches Ethernet [AppleYukon2] and waits there......... Every ~5mins it shows that "nothing received, soft reset chip" message. > Can a failed boot like this render the install useless? Should I reinstall to try -x -v -s? Restart, choose HD2, -x -v -s, and it reached the root prompt, but I cannot write anything (seems to hang there)... Restart, boot Leopard, delete com.Boot.apple.plist from /Extra , HD2, -x -v, no changes (appleyukon bla bla). Restart again, try -x32, apple boot screen, wait 3 mins and nothing happened (just that the wheel kept spinning), then restarted to start writing this ---------------------- Most of the times I also added the dsdt.aml file (also from P5W.zip). I tried also with other chameleon installer, one from a teknojunkie guide and one from HERE. > Can the dsdt.aml be the problem? Just remove the .zip extension once you downloaded. put that in your /Extra folder I think it is safe to put AppleRTC.kext in your /Extra/Extentions folder Make sure that your UUID in PlatformUUID.kext and smbios.plist match Try boot with -v -x -s -x32 and run the following: # fsck -fy # mount -uw / # kextcache -v -l -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/ # reboot Hope that would help. I've been running 10.5 without having ever really heard of DSDTs before today, and it seems to be the way to go, but all the basic tutorials and guides are missing the mark (e.g. one requires editing the BIOS file on windows, and the only BIOS download I found from Asus didn't work, and the other guides I found had very specific edits to the DSDT file that I couldn't match up with the one produced from my system). I use http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434 , make sure you have .Net 3.5 installed. All i did was loading the BIOS file (downloaded from Asus site), select BIOS Patch, browse to the BIOS file and choose the destination for .aml file. select Generate DSDT.aml . Select HPET, RTC, Aliases, and click on Fixes and select all the options. Choose AMI and click on Patch BIOS (that's all i can choose to avoid Over Flow error). Hope that would help. EDIT i see from your screenshot that its hanging due to "waiting for dsmos" it has nothing to do with yukon, you need a 64bit dsmos because chameleon boots the 64bit kernel by default, message me on aim and i'll give you the one i'm using. If you are using the latest fakesmc.kext from Netkas, you should not be using any dsmos.kext. EDIT: and you can see in his screenshot that DSMOS arrived.
