Well i am trying to get snow leopard on my gigabyte ud3p. I followed the guide over at infinitemac here:

http://www.infinitemac.com/f57/how-to-inst...d-on-a-pc-t3137

It seems fine, tries to load but then it hangs with an error acpi_smc_platform_plugin and some {censored} about appleintelcpupowermanagemnt.kext timeout. I tired removing it, but did nothing....same error everytime!

Anyone else have this problem and find a solution? So close!

Well I have figured out this error is irrelevant to booting since i get the same error on 10.5.8 and it boots fine. So i decided to try replacing snows loginwindow and dock apps in /System/Library/CoreServices with 10.5.8's loginwindow and dock from the same folder and rebooted. THis time i actually got to see the intro of snow and it let me create a user account. But when it got to the desktop it looked like there were two menu bars at the top, then the screen went black and there was a cursor in the upper left corner...a little closer but i really dont know what to do at this point...

Hi,

I had the same problem... Just go into SnowLeo HD/System/Library/Extensions, browse to IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext, right click Show package contents, then Contents/PlugIns and delete ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext there.

Yeah I tried deleting it. It doesn't do any good. The error is gone sure but SL still hangs...i get the same acpi error on my 10.5.8 hack but it boots every time...something else is stopping snow leopard from booting...i can get a moveable mouse cursor and login screen on SL if I replace the login and dock apps in /system/library/coreservices with those from 10.5.8...but it wont actually boot...well I tried everything I know of....im tired of SL now...im giving it a break...

I was getting the same hang, and then I followed a different guide which got me into SL (with -x32) The only thing i did differently was use this script: X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer_BETA_muzzle.nl

You see, I was putting the nullcpupowermanagement, openhaltrestart and platformuuid in the extra folder with chameleon.... now i put those in the system/library/extensions folder and only put fakesmc in the extra folder.... fixed the extensions.mkext and now im in SL (although i have a different Kernel Panic that happens once im already into the gui

Good Luck!

Excellent! I Have successfully booted into Snow with my 8800gts at 1680x1050! Jymboche thanks so much dude. I installed with the guide above basically and used the patch to install chameleon rc1 that says is compatible with snow leopard...

download X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer_BETA_muzzle.nl

I have also now written a guide that has consistently worked for me several times:

i'm on a UD3P as well and put all the extensions into E/E (supposing you're using PCEFIv10). while i'm not sure if dsmos works in E/E, netkas' FakeSMC definitely does, and works for both 32/64 bit - http://netkas.org/?p=155

in fact, my S/L/E directory is completely virgin except for three files needed for my graphics card. not too shabby at all, and sound works perfectly through DSDT edits and a small .kext in E/E. very, very good system stability once I repaired persmissions. sleep doesn't work, but it doesn't work for me in Win7 either.
