DSDT - Vanilla Speedstep - Generic Scope (_PR)

Hi there mm67, can i ask a question?

My previous Gigabyte board died and got a asus p5q-em

This board with a e8500 gives vanilla speedstep, but i'm not sure if all is OK (temps at idle 53c)

Is there anything i can change to get the temps down (on windows it idles at 34c)

Check to see if AppleLPC.kext is loading. I have vanilla speedstep with my MSI board but gain between 5 and 10 deg whithout AppleLPC even though stepping is working.

 

See 1st post for getting AppleLPC working with DSDT patch.

Using stock Vcore is by no means not necessary for stable overclock, it's just one more stupid Gigabyte bug that C-states don't work if you use a manually set Vcore value in bios.

This is starting to veer off topic but I actually discovered if I keep my FSB below 460 I can set my VCore manually and keep C States. So far I've tried 444, and 450 they I still show voltage changes in mark-i. The second I go to 460 the voltage stoping changing and stays at max. I'm stable at 450 as far as mprime is concerned. I have my VCore set at around 1.36v. I notice a good 2-3 degree difference in temps when C States are working, idle temps are 38-39. Even when they're not working my temps idle are still around 40-41 degrees.

I never even remember that ICH10R needs a fix for AppLPC, that seems to be missing since AppleLPC is not loaded on that IOregistry dump.

I have to set my ID to 3A18 (ICH10). I'm sure once Apple updates the MacPros they'll add support for ICH10R as long as they keep using Intel processors.

That's interesting, there must be some kind of difference in our bioses, I'm now trying with Vcore 1.225 and FSB 333 (both stock) and C-states don't work. For me only options are Vcore Normal or Vcore auto & FSB control disabled.

Your cpu seems to really like volts, I can run 4.1 GHz, 483 * 8.5 with 1.38 volts, LLC disabled.

Sorry for the slightly off-topic (ok, mostly off-topic) questions, but if I could just close the loop on one of mine. Are you changing your dsdt p-state voltage values for each change in overclock? When I ran p-state changer to get values at both stock speed and overclocked (with a dsdt without any p-state info), the fid and vid numbers were identical at each speed. Is this your experience as well?

 

The overclocking experience seems fairly fragmented on the forum and I haven't been able to get a clear idea about this in relation to p-states in the dsdt, especially for our processor.

No, you don't need to change anything in dsdt when overclocking.

Out of curiosity you don't have any problem with FakeSMC and C states? Are you using the latest revision from the SVN?

No I'm not using latest version. I'm using rev. 218 and SuperIO plugin.

Please help - Strange Scope (_PR) !

 

I am trying to fix up my Vostro 3500 DSDT (i5 430M processor) . I have made all the usual changes recommended and HPET, LPC kexts etc. are loading fine but I cannot get to a stage where removal of NullCpuPMManagement.kext is possible and that damn KP will just not go away.

 

I think the problem may be that the DSDT has an unusual layout for Scope (_PR) which seems to call on the SSDTs for information and does not itself have the normal processor declarations.

 

I'd be grateful if someone could take a look at the zip folder and point me in a good direction.

 

In the zip are the vanilla DSDT and two SSDT tables and also my work in progress dsdt which is fine as far as it goes and has no errors, warnings or remarks.

 

I tried adding the SSDTs into the DSDT to complete scope(_PR) but had no joy.

 

Speedstep on my Zotac was a piece of cake compared to this....

It's the one that you can download from project's front page. I just tried latest from svn, C-states work but SuperIO plugin doesn't seem to work.

OK thanks.. I added this as is to my DSDT replacing what I had and I get 15 errors.. I am wondering if this is going to work for me after reading that Thinkpad T60 owners go about getting speedstep to work completely differently then the formerlyknownas method... I have a lenovo but i already tried to use what slicer has listed there to get c-states to work and it does not compile for me. I get 121 errors trying to use it.

 

If you can help me figure this out Ill be soo grateful. Here is what MSR tools show for me right now. The CPU says 2700 but that is a bootloader detection issue I am working on with Valv. My CPU is 2500mhz. Anyway I get an error from the console that says this..

Youl notice I have all the apple vanilla kext loaded that I need just missing pstate values to make it all work.

OK thanks.. I added this as is to my DSDT replacing what I had and I get 15 errors.. I am wondering if this is going to work for me after reading that Thinkpad T60 owners go about getting speedstep to work completely differently then the formerlyknownas method... When you say errors are they compile errors from your DSDT? Or boot errors?
