snow leopard question - please help

So.... I have two harddrives. One of which i recently put a 10.5.7 vanilla install on. Once inside leopard ive managed to install Snow Leopard to the second harddrive, but when i boot, the screen stays gray and the loader keeps spinning. How can i get it into verbose mode so i can see whats wrong? in my "Extra/com.apple.boot.plist" i have the -v in the kernel flags section. Also after im forced to restart and boot back into Leo, I get a cmos error and have to load default values or go back and reconfigure my settings.

evga x58 micro atx

core i7 920

2x sata drives (AHCI on)

Boot, after the BIOS loads up, on darwin prompt press F8 then type -v.

Also, Until you fix your DSDT, your cmos will reset every time you boot into SL. Edit the dsdt.dsl changing the length under device (RTC) from 04 to 02. Recompile to aml and no more cmos reset.

So no more cmos resets, and I also reinstalled from scratch again with the chameleon rc2 loader, but im getting various kernel panics based on what kexts I put in the extras folder. Can someone tell me what are the specific "essential" kexts needed for SL? I have the specific kexts for my motherboard that work perfectly with leopard, But a lot of these guides are unclear about dsmos, nullcpupowermanagement, platformuuid, openhaltrestart, fakesmc, etc... Im pretty sure one of these is the culprit for my KP. It freezes after/around applecpupowermanagement or something like that. any thoughts?

You will have to use Snow Leopard kexts compiled to 64 bit. If you search around the snow leopard install forum, there is a link to a repository of snow leopard kexts. I would say you need at lest fakesmc.kext IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext and maybe a couple other ones depending on your hardware. The only kexts I have found to work in both SL and Leo are the legacy sound kexts for 10.5.7 and up.

Have not upgraded will do it next month but from following you see if you can remove "applecpupowermanagement" sounds like null one is used in replacement.

well ive been experimenting with those kexts from that repository, but i get an error message saying fakesmc failed to load and also failed to allocate fakesmc class.....Additionally when i run this special X58 script i found for snowleopard it says that x86_x64 wont be inserted into the boot cache. For now im stuck at

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin failed to load....AppleIntelCPUEPowerManagement.... time out

The kexts i have in my extra folder now are:

AppleDecrypt (which i pulled from my working leopard install)

FakeSMC (which i downloaded from netkas)

NullCPUPowerManagement

OpenHaltRestart

PlatformUUID(with the uuid from the snow leopard drive)

after being on there for a couple minutes a get a kernel panic and have to restart.. everytime....So i haven't gotten to explore much.... here is what the KP says at the top:

panic(cpu 4 caller 0x2a6ac2): Kernel trap at 0x0027a435, type 14=page fault, registers:

*then a bunch of numbers* then:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: mdworker

*followed my macversion, uptime, etc....

 

I've seen this before in the threads, but can't find it anymore.... any suggestions?

boot in safe mode and run the kextutility to repair disk permissions and rebuild the mkext that should get you more time. i started getting an windowserver panic after i got rid of that one. random panics all over the place i'm still narrowing it down

Haha, thanks dude....ran the kext utility like 10 times and i haven't had a KP yet (I'm even back in regular boot.) I couldn't use my keyboard the first time in safe boot to even login, but it magically worked this morning. For those of you reading this, if you're getting a Kernel Panic after booting into Snow Leo use Kext utility to repair permissions. For me, I had to rename my /Extra/Stored_Kexts to /Extra/Extensions for kext utility to work properly. (Stored_Kexts is the default for some bootloader/efi install scripts)
