I cant make the sound work ... i know its a alc889a

have the same problem
sound does not work
have GA-EP35-DS4 the same soundchip ALC889A

I reinstalled the system using the TEKNOJUNK method ... and
when the system boot for first time i noticed the sound volume
work .. but there wasn't sound at all .... i removed the plug from
the green connector and put it back to the black connector ,
and the sound was there ....

but cant use mic or line ...

anyone know a fix ???

i also using a geforce 8600gt 256 mb and i noticed a very poor
performance , i know there is another topic about this , i only want
to share my experience.

try Series of LegacyHDA.zip Use with vanilla AppleHDA.kext.

For me, it worked putting them in the extra folder.

You put them in the /Extra/Extensions folder, and then rebuilt the kextcache. To be honest though it would be much smoother if you compiled your own DSDT to use. There are plenty of guides. Look at my GA EP45-UD3R guide in this forum section if you have any questions.
