Take your time, and remember that we have to choose our hardware to fit OS X for it to work properly, some hardware just doesn't work properly. DSDT can be used to fix some issues but not all. And also, this is a hobby for most of us so be prepared to play around to get things working. If we wanted a machine that just worked then we would buy a real Mac?

I agree. I'm trying to buy an EP45-DS3L motherboard, but it's quite difficult here in Brazil. I found an EP45-UD3L, which has the same specifications, but is made with superior quality components. Is this the only difference? What do you think?

Don't give up with your system, you might still be able to get it working, but just be prepared to do some testing and trials etc. Maybe just change your bluetooth dongle.. It's up to you.

But this mobo (EP45-DS3L) is quite old now and there might well be some better options today. If you are looking at changing your system then the best bet is to look through the wiki and see what hardware others have posted as being successful.

I´m on GA-EP43-DS3L, and its has same specs, the only(basically) difference is the P45/P43 chipset...

With this guide you can install normally..

Ps: Comprei no Rio, e você encontra por R$ ~200-300 ..

Hi blackosx, your guide running in a motherboard EP45-DS3 ??? not EP45-DS3L

Thanks

I guess you're asking if this guide works on a EP45-DS3?. Yes, I remember somebody previously posting on here a successful install on one :(

me ? :)

No problem with my EP45-DS3. Just the audio chipset : ALC889 on my EP45-DS3 (and ALC888 in this guide).

Has anyone else had issues compiling a kextcache on the EFI partition, I keep getting this error:

Couldn't lock : Operation not supported by device

And am unable to create my mkext.

?

Yes. I had this error too. I copied all files to my home-folder and the creation of the kext-cache worked. I recognized, that my EFI partition was on disk0s1 but SL is on disk1s2 (the EFI partition was on a drive with an older Leopard installation). I copied the old EFI partition to the disk with SL on it (do not forget to initialize the EFI partition for booting from it), changed the boot order in the BIOS and voila, I can create the kextcache directly on the EFI partition.

Very true. And this install method can be applied to a many systems. :P All I mean is what I have just posted to jamonda, in that I can only write about what I know. I can't give proper support for hardware that I don't own.

Hi blackosx,

This guide is really a jewel! I need a small clarification though. Read the first part [12NOV update] on the sound issue and I don't know which kexts I should use. My MB is slightly different, but has the ALC888. All hints for other MB worked for me from 10.4.6--10.5.8, 10.6.0, 10.6.1. But my sound stopped after upgrade to 10.6.2.

If I remove the tag in the legacyHDA.kext: "Latest - (2 New ones today): Change for LegacyHDA.kext & OSXRestart by MasterChief" what other kexts must be in the Extra folder?

No sound after 10.6.2.... please clarify which kexts go with the patched LegacyHDA.kext

This is the only trouble I still have.

[plus one minor glitch: cannot boot into safe mode or -v: system disregards keyboard input until logon].

EP43 boards are easier to find here. Is your Mac OS PC system 100% functional with EP43-DS3L (64bit kernel, Audio, Video, Sleep, hibernation, restart, shutdown, usb and so on)?

Your sound should still work after the 10.6.2 update. As long as you have your DSDT patched with HDEF for ALC888 (with either address 0 or 1, depending on what works for you), and the LegacyHDA.kext from my support files. If that works, then look at editing your LegacyHDA.kext as tmongkol's suggestion.

The kexts to put in E/E that I recommended in my PDF guide were: (Note, the guide is quite old now)

fakesmc

LegacyHDA

NullCPUPowerManagement

OpenHaltRestart

PlatformUUID

SleepEnabler (Needed is you have NullCPUPowerManagement.kext) (use the new one if using 10.6.2)

IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector (Not needed it using SATA fix in DSDT)

As for booting with -v. Can you not use your keyboard in Chameleon? When you view the device selection screen, type -v and you'll see it appear in the bottom left of the screen.

Hi, BlackOSX.

I won't give up with my P35C-DS3R, but I need a second computer. It'll be better if it is compatible with Snow Leopard, the most possible, and if I can use it with your guide.

So which would be the best, in your opinion: EP43-DS3L (P43 chipset, same as p45, except for crossfire) or EP45-UD3L (same chipset as DS3L, but with better materials, capacitors)?

Do you only have three? Thanks for the info..

I looked into these messages in the kernel log to find out what they were. And Netkas has said 'its info dumped to let u know what keys missing'. So I understand that I can add the key in to the info.plist, but do I have to add a key for each of these?

Hi,

I've a small thing that is annoying !

As I us my digital output to get 5.1 surround sound, I changed my output from internal speakers to digital output. Here is the thing, every time I restart my system it goes back to internal speakers forcing me to change it again !!!

Any idea ?

I don't know about that. I have only got stereo speakers connected to my 3.5mm jack but I can try to set my audio to digital output next time I reboot to see if it changes on mine too?

Million thanks for the clarification and encouragement. !

I had still the A..HDA.. kexts in the E/E, now I will keep only those ion the list and remove the tag as tmongkol's.

Can you try the keyboard in a different USB port? Why do you want to boot with -v, is it just to check the messages?

Because you can load the console from /Applications/Utilities/ then in the left pane, drill down to FILES/private/var/log/kernel.log to view the messages.

why .....my DVDrom always flash the light maybe about 4-5 minute? it' just like checking disc or something....

is it normal ? :(

sorry my bad english :)

Hi joe2108

If nobody has answered your question then maybe nobody knows the answer. I don''t know why your light flashes every 4-5 minutes. Maybe somebody has posted this before in this thread, you are going to have to read through it to find out, or search the InsanelyMac forum to find the answer.

I´m using 100% functional..See my sign.

Regards.

Good to know. Will you please send your boot, DSDT.aml, Extra and Extensions files to me?

If you can't link them, you can send via private message. I'll compare to mine with P35-DS3R.

And if I buy the same board, I'll use your files, for sure.

Thanks in advance.

So I don't understand exactly what's going on.. I will have to do some investigating.... Has anybody else found out more about this?

FakeSMC: key info not found MSDS, length " 6 FIX You can fix this error message easily by editing the info.plist from the fakesmc.kext Just add the key MSDS and on the value leave the string empty:- MSDS

why .....my DVDrom always flash the light maybe about 4-5 minute? it' just like checking disc or something....

This is a new development I have noticed too. The system seems to be 'polling' the drive more often than it ever did. Since everything still works as it should, not a big deal. Not sure if this background activity stops the computer from sleeping or not though.

I tried this and it messed up my system. Went back to the original fakesmc.kext and all is well. Would be curious where to find the correct values to insert into info.plist.

Just wanted to let everyone know. That if you used the fstab edit to enable 'native' ntfs write support. And are having random crashes and/or KP's. Try undoing the fstab write support to see if that helps.

My systems was horrible unstable until i figured this out. Since undoing the fstab edit to enable write on ntfs drives. I have been 10000% times more stable.

Hi joe2108

If nobody has answered your question then maybe nobody knows the answer. I don''t know why your light flashes every 4-5 minutes. Maybe somebody has posted this before in this thread, you are going to have to read through it to find out, or search the InsanelyMac forum to find the answer.

Hi BlackOSX

Sorry for my english, your guide are very simple and perfect.

First of all I have to thank you for yours the great guide 10.5.7, 10.6.2, DSDT for GFX, CMOS reset Fix, USBfix, SATA fix, HDEF I got success those mentioned all as follow your guide.

But I see in your signature about Speedstep and I have read some guide as your suggested link such as Vaila Speed Step by Formerlyknowas but I could did not understand, as formerlyknowas has mentioned what he got success in10.6.2 retail, SW RAID0, Chameleon 2 RC2, DSDT for GFX Audio USBfix Vanilla Stepping and NIC.

My qusetion is what he mean NIC.

If you have time please make the guide for DSDT speed step as your success.

In My machine Extra Folder:

10.5 Extentions-Fakesmc.kect(lastest Version from netkas site for 10.5), LegacyHDA.kext, NullCPUPowermanagement.kext, OpenHaltRestart.kext, UUID.kext, Sleepenabler.kext(V2 for 10.5)

10.6 Extensions: Fakesmc.kect(lastest Version from netkas site for 10.6), LegacyHDA.kext, NullCPUPowermanagement.kext, OSXRestart.kext, PlatfornUUID.kext, Sleepenabler.kext (v2)

DSDT.aml (for both 10.5.6)

SMBIOS.plist (for both 10.5.6)

I'm not usually the type to bash on people who don't speak English as there primary language but i have to say i have no idea what the hell your asking for here and in the previous post.

you should take a bit of time or better yet use the google translator before posting because it's virtually impossible to help you with your problem when virtually no information is posted
