CrazyMacBig
I bought a macbook in july 2007. I never upgraded to leopard, and now that snow leopard is here, i was wondering if i need to buy and install leopard first, or can i just upgrade directly to snow leopard? Ai Haibara
Short answer: yes, you can. Long answer: yes, but you have to pay 129$ instead of the "discount" price of 29$ which is reserved to the upgrade-from-Leopard option. Hi and welcome to the forums! Well, the Snow Leopard upgrade at $29 is for Leopard users ONLY, but it'll also be available as a retail DVD in the mac box set for $179. With this one, you'll be able to install from scratch, and you'll save the $129 for a Leopard upgrade.

Sherry Haibara how much does the regular leopard cost?, may still be cheaper to pay 129 than leopard +
johnlocke2342
how much does the regular leopard cost?, may still be cheaper to pay 129 than leopard + 29 As far as I know, there'll be no $129 release, the retail version will be available as a part of the new Mac box set. And Leopard is $129 as I already said in my previous post.

Synaesthesia
I wanna know: What's to stop you from buying the $29 Snow Leopard and performing a clean install?
johnlocke2342
I wanna know: What's to stop you from buying the $29 Snow Leopard and performing a clean install? For $29 you only get an upgrade disc, but I bet you'll be able to modify it to convert it into a retail DVD.
CrazyMacBig
I wanna know: What's to stop you from buying the $29 Snow Leopard and performing a clean install? i do not have leopard, so i cannot buy the 29 dollar SL upgrade i will do whatever is needed, if i have to buy leopard first, i will do that, but if it is possible to go straight to SL, then that would make it easier For $29 you only get an upgrade disc, but I bet you'll be able to modify it to convert it into a retail DVD. how does one modify the disc? mikecwest
how does one modify the disc? You would make a DMG that readable/writable..... you would modify the installer.... (a guess is that you would "show pacakge contents". find the INSTALLATIONCHECK and either delete, or modify it,) then burn it to a disk

IMHO, it's the GM, but there are so much skeptics all around the web that I'm really not sure. Plus there are translation errors on the french localized files.
