Just like Gary88 - I too have the Sapphire x1600 pro card with 512 ram

It shows up as 71c2 card.

First I did the automatic method and got black screen on boot-up

Then three times I reloaded the OS and changed things manually making sure that there were no errors - and I still get the black screen on boot-up

Any insights sure would be nice.

Time to reload the OS yet again.

are you using DVI or VGA? If DVI try vga or try DVI to VGA converter.

I tried VGA, then I tried DVI and then I tried DVI to VGA.

Nothing - just goes to black screen.

- in the JaS 10.4.7 install I do include SSE3 + x1600 support

if your cpu supports sse3 then yes and if you have a x1600/x1800/x1900 you can select that package

There must be something wrong with the borisbadenov method for my sapphire x1600pro card

Oh well time to get something else

hposx, I have the same laptop... NX9420 and was not sure to understand your last post....

Do you mean that you have x1600 support ? If yes, please post your method...

Also, do you have issues with sound and Duo Core ?

Much appreciated :-)

Cheers,

Hi wondergod

I have found out, that when I change the IONDEVICE in ATI DRV to IONPCIDEVICE (it´s wrong-cause it should be

IOPCIDEVICE) I get a running System, before I only had black screen . Now I have no resolution changing-

but I have core image and QE. It seems that the problem is ATI DRV. Maybe somebody else knows more than I. I hope I could help you ..

Best Regards !

Gary

I bought Asus EX1600XT silent - starts to boot and then goes to black.

Here are the last few lines that I see before it goes to black (when I boot using -v)

kextd[33]: kld_load_from_memory() failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/

Contents/MacOS/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugIn

kextd[33]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/

kextd[40]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMLANAudio.kext

kextd[41]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/AudiIPCDriver.kext

(note - hangs here for about 15-20 seconds)

kextd-parent[24]: IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out

localhost mDNSResponder-100 (Dec 25 2005 11:57:53)[50]: Starting

loalhost DirectoryService[62]: Launched version 2.1 (v353.2)

localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loingwindow: Login Window Application Started

(note - goes to black)

(I got this by taking a picture with digital camera and then transcribed it)

If I take out boris - I still get the link/load erors but it does not wait and hang for the "IOKitWaitQuiet () timeout"

Last two lines are

loalhost DirectoryService[60]: Launched version 2.1 (v353.2)

Intel82557: Ethernet address 00:11:11:6d:ff:cf

then it goes to the MacOSX blue screen and then to desktop real fast

Further note - after running the deinstallscript

I wanted to run the moris method manually - just in case

I noticed that the following files have disappeared

ATIRadeonX1000.kext

ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin

ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle

ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle

ATINDRV.kext

I hope this helps solve any problems

Is there any way of amalgamating all these borisbadenov related threads.

I am finding it confusing as to which is the 'definitive' or best one to follow.

What is the difference between this thread and

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=19806

Not all of us here are super tech proficient.

Some of us need simple and easy to understand guides.

Just a thought

Thanks

This was the first thread on the Boris method. It grew large and unwieldly, so the other (new) thread was created with all of the highlights from this thread. It is posted in the Tutorials - Genius Bar forum because it is the "official" thread.

This thread then became one focused on finding solutions for getting DVI and dual monitors to work. But nothing stops people from posting in both threads.

Does this description sound familair to Hackintoshers (its from a kosher MacPro with 1900XT)? Maybe there are problems with the ATi drivers right from the start!

I'm not using BootCamp, haven't even installed it, but I am having similar problems with Mac OS X itself on my new Mac Pro 3GHz with ATI X1900 XT.

I have a Dell 2405FPW (24") (1920x1200 native res, like 23in Cinema) as my primary monitor, and a Dell 2001FP (20") as my secondary monitor. Both are connected via DVI.

If I plug in the 24" into port 1 and the 20" into port 2, I see correct video on the 24", but a black screen on the 20". If I change resolution from 1600x1200 to 1280x1024 on the 20", I get video on the 20". I can then change resolution back to 1600x1200 and retain video on both monitors.

However, if I turn the 20" monitor off, when I turn it back on, it is black again, and stays that way unless I do the resolution change again. Note that the monitor detects a signal, different from when there is no signal at all - it is getting a black picture, and that's what it's displaying. This happens with a fresh out of the box install of Mac OS X, as I did a clean install on another partition to troubleshoot it.

Now, here's where it gets interesting. If I swap the connections - 24" to port 2 and 20" to port 1, keeping the 24" with the menu bar, then I get video on both monitors. However, I get black picture on both monitors during the entire boot sequence and do not see video until the login window appears. (after GUI/drivers are loaded) I can turn the monitors off and on after that point and continue to retain video. So, that's the setup I'm using, even though it is not ideal to not be able to see anything before the login window (thus, no BootCamp for me...)

On a possibly related note, if I start X11, the X11 server takes over the entire display, showing a gray checkerboard pattern as the background with no menu bar, no dock, nothing other than an xterm visible and accessible. If I command-Q, it will quit X11 and everything returns. It's like the X11 window manager is taking over and not merging with the Mac OS X desktop.

Well it is going to be the beginning of a journey for me.

I had Nvidia Geforce FX5000XT, now I just put in Sapphire Radeon ATI X1600 AGP 512 MB RAM.

So far no good.

Used Boris method with installer, on boot goes into verbose then crashes with blue screen.

De-installed it.

Now trying to re-install JAS DVD 10.4.7 by adding Radeon X1600 option.

Maybe?

Edit: My system:

Intel Pentium based system - P4 HT, 3GHz

RAM: 1,5 GB

GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600 AGP 512 MB

CHIPSET: Intel® 875P

OSX 10.4.7

MONITOR: TARGA TM4267-1 CRT

asapreta you are a lucky dude... maybe pci-e is better recognized.

Mine is brand new AGP, but there might be variations in manufacturing?

I should have tried it first without patching, instead of patching straight away using -s option...

So you did not use the X1600 patch support on JAS's?

No I didn´t.

It has tearing (a bit of) and no resolution change. But as I said to Rammjet in another post, I fixed the resolution to my LCD max, and never bothered about this tearing, because the image quality is better without the Boris Method or Neopheus Installer.

I cannot believe it, using a clean latest JAS 10.4.7 DVD with ATI X1600 patch gave me this:

Radeon X1600 Series:

Chipset Model: Radeon X1600 Series

Type: VGA-Compatible Controller

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x71c2

Revision ID: 0x0000

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 85 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Supported

Rotation: Supported

I could see the difference at the startup with great quality graphics, and it flyes...

Of course I still want more :D

Like how to get Quartz 2D?

512 MB instead of 256 MB

and AGP support instead of listed PCI?

Anyway, and even if I lost all my old settings, I ain't complaining.

It didn't work before maybe because I had been fooling around with the Nvidia Drivers...

Gr8 job to all those who made this possible, and I hope you get latest kernel hacked too :)

Getting there, I now have Quartz 2D working thanks to QuartzSimple, I tried beamsync off as well.

What I can still moan about is the fact that video controls on mpeg files have no effect whatsoever in Quicktime. They slide alright, but effect is zero ;)

Anyone knows of a video player in which I can adjust video controls (brightness, etc)...

Just adding:

DVI works for me, by using DVI to VGA adapter, I get more video resolution choices, and the screen gets much brighter, so video controls is not so much of a problem anymore (they still do not work, I wonder why?)

So for me project is finished, it is all working at best efficiency.

As I have two Mac's, it is unlikely I will use this.

I wish Apple were nice and offered a part exchange, I would gladly exchange my iBook PPC for an Intel one
