The Theme Thread

3 posts in this topic

Okay, I don't know whether anyone has made something like this yet, but I know it is a real time-waster to search through the 21 or so pages to find a theme for their computer. Such themes are like that Apple Red theme that was made a while back, or some other ones. So, I figured that this could be a repository for themes that people have made.

An example of a theme would be:

[NAME]

[PICTURE OF THEME]

[DOWNLOAD LINK/DOWNLOAD LOCATION]

[ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS USED (unless you made it solely by hacking the theme files, and not from third-party programs like Shapeshifter. Can also be used for programs which supplement the theme, such as Silk or DragThing, etc.)]

Let the theming begin!

If any of the mods thinks that there is a thread that was made before with the exact same purpose as this one, please revive it and delete this one.

Okay then... I'll have a go at this one.

As one of the few Tiger users left it's been a bit of an obsession to theme Tiger to as close to Leopard as poss. I know it isn't perfect but it's pretty damn close and I'm very happy with it.

First off this is a mod of extras2.rsrc. Please be aware when replacing this file that if you make a mistake with the path you will boot into Darwin!

I went down this route rather than using Shapeshifter as APE (Application enhancer) was causing probs with some proggies.

The other files to be modded are Finder.rsrc and I also modded the Spotlight and Safari resources.

I extracted the menubar from a shapeshifter guikit and used Themepark to swap out the menubar image files. I extracted the buttons from another guikit and got the traffic lights from a Dragthing theme.

That's about it... I'm using Dragthing for the dock, I used Tinkertool for the system font, although in won't change the menubar font. The clock is a flash clock turned into a desktop app with MDM Zinc.

I hope this is what you had in mind AppleFreak

Cheers

Couldn't have imagined it better myself.

Oh well, since I've posted, I guess I should offer my own say to this thread.

And, voila , my desktop! If you're wondering about some of the files, my brother asks me to rip some songs for him, so I use the Dekstop as a repository for them.

Yeah, nothing really complicated about it. I customized the icons for my Bootcamp partition, my regular HD, and my folders with CandyBar. The Dock was customized with SuperDocker 2, nothing special there. (To all of you who want something like this, please note that 10.5.7 breaks SuperDocker 2's ability to mod this sort of stuff. Extract the PNGs of the Docks that you want from the Contents of the application and place them into SuperDocker 3.) The iTunes controller in my menubar is ByteController, which is awesome.
