Velvetty
Introduction After days of research, I've finally got my card to work with OS X! So I shall share with you how I did it. (Apparenly the patched framebuffers did the trick for me! ) This is also for those who can't download from rapidshare (like me) and still need to fix up their drivers. This might work for other cards as well. You can try it out and tell me if it worked. This enables QE/CI & Resolution Change up to 1680 x 1050 on my EAH4850. Tested connection types Single Screen DVI - DVI DVI2VGA - VGA Dual Screen Screen 1: DVI1 - DVI Screen 2: DVI2 - DVI (Source: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177112#) Not Working Screen 1: DVI1>VGA - VGA Screen 2: DVI - DVI & vice versa (Source: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177112#) How to get my 4850 Asus working! 1. Download EAH4850 OSX Essentials. It contains both 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg and Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg [Megaupload]http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UJ7YGDS0 [Mediafire]http://www.mediafire.com/?iizzz2tttzr 2. Unzip the file and install 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg first but do not reboot just yet! 3. Install Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg 4. Reboot into OS X. It should work now. If video card still doesn't work... Boot with -s (Safe mode) and type the following /sbin/mount -uw / cd /system/library/extensions rm -r Natit.kext* rm -r ATI* exit For other bugs, please refer to http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=155477 P.S. I will try to answer your questions but I'm just a newbie who got his 4850 working and would like to share the files needed and the steps I took. Otherwise, google it! And to everyone who helped me with every part of installation! Also, kudos to netkas for the patches and drumthrasher109 for his thread. Velvetty
I don't know what you mean but this is how I got mine to work. Just install the 2 packages and you should be good to go. I could do a DVI - DVI and a DVI2VGA - VGA if that's what you mean.
lupo92
JW, what version of OSX are you using? I'n going to try this right now and hope this works. That other thread with the "Easy installation" has never worked, and Ive installed 2 different OSX versions hoping it would work. EDIT - I got the Blue screen, with start up sounds (which is weird because i never got it before), and the mouse. I did the -s boot, and for the first time i was able to boot again, so that a big plus for me. Unfortunately, the drivers didn't work so I'm stuck at the same old resolution. Thanks anyway
Velvetty
I use 10.5.7 It works for me though. You have to install the drivers and the framebuffers next. What did your blue screen look like? Was there like a lot of jargon in it? Or just a plain old blue screen with a mouse cursor? And did your screen blank out?
lupo92
It was just a plain old blue screen. Nothing would happen, but I could move my mouse around pointlessly. My screen only blanks out now, when i dont put the DVI>VGA dongle on the unused port. When i put it on I get the blue screen. BTW the blue screen is in the good resolution. Im at 10.5.6, should I try updating to 10.5.7? Last time I did I had to reinstall, so unless is necessary, I don't want to try again.
mrrw
OMFG... Thank you so much. I felt obliged to report back my success history. Core Image and Quartz Extreme fully functional. Mobo: GA-EX58-Extreme (rev. 1.0, Bios F7) VGA: XFX 4850 512mb (this one) System: Leopard 10.5.8 (Digital_Dreamer's guide, here) Again... thank you everyone and this lovely community. Edit Forgot to mention: dual DVI screens fully functional. ;-) better than perfect

It looks like it's the problem with the OS or computer rather than the graphics card. Usually if my graphics card can't work with OS X, it'll just blank out and I can't see anything. The monitor then gives me a no signal sign. I'm not sure about your installation but I used iATKOS v7 to install. My specs are in my sig. You can ask around if it's the graphics card cause I'm not too sure. Sorry. OMFG... Thank you so much. I felt obliged to report back my success history. Lucky you, I had all needed for this test (attached picture)... so I gave it a try. Sorry to inform you... it doesn't worked. I my tests DVI_1 is the one closest to the mobo and DVI_2 well... you know. Test 1 DVI_1 > DVI Monitor = No Signal DVI_2 > DVI>VGA adapter > VGA Monitor = Signal ok, full res, CI, QE, all ok. Test 2 DVI_1 > DVI>VGA adapter > VGA Monitor = Signal ok, full res, CI, QE, all ok. DVI_2 > DVI Monitor = No Signal So basically if the VGA is used the DVI doesn't work. Hope that helps

Out of curiosity I will try your method and test the same setup again and let you know. I have Sapphire card. Edit: And yes 1xDVI is working but 1xDVI+1xDVI->VGA does not work. My second display is FullHD projector in another room, 20m from computer. Its cheaper to get a new nVidia card supporting OSX86 fully than to buy a 20m HDMI/DVI cable. Sad :/ If ANYONE have got dual-screen working in ANY ways - please spare me by telling me how did you do it. Im desperated.
amdahlj
Installed Radeon 4850 using your guide. Everything is working great except I get a kernel panic when I restart or shut down. You can try uninstalling the drivers and see if there is still a kernel panic. It might be a conflict of drivers.

Velvetty
Hi, I have try this. And not working for me... Crunch... You tried everything? Weird but it worked for me. Maybe the drivers you installed? Remember to remove any ATI drivers you had in the beginning. Maybe there's some conflict somewhere in your drivers. Kuan_Yi_HK
hello, Short message to report an other success story.. with these driver installed I can now boot normally instead of booting in safe mode everytime. But I still got the reboot & shutdown kernel panic but it seems that some people have been able to fix that.. I got to look through the community. Good job and many thanks. Gurka
Hello. I'm quite new to OSx86 and Hackintosh, but I managed to install 10.6 on my system, and updating it to 10.6.1, following this guide: http://lifehacker.com/5360150/install-snow...acking-required Unfortunately, it didn't install with my HD4850, so I had to put my old 7600GT in, and it worked. Ofc I want to run with my 4850. If I just swap and start the computer, I get kernel panic (screen turns grey and "Push the power button until restart..."). Is the guide in the first post the way to go? Is there other ways too? I tried searching, but I haven't found anything of interest. Unfortunately, I want to run dual monitors, one dvi and one dvi>vga... Won't this work at all? Specs: GA-EP45 DS4, E8500, 4 gigs of RAM, Gigabyte 512mb HD4850 (w/ 2 DVI) The 7600GT is MSI 512mb VIVO, also DVI.

At last I have got my Sapphire 4850 1gb to work cuz of you!!!!!!!!! the tutorial works perfectly!!!! if you end up with a blue screen, boot up with -v (Verbose mode) Then you need to go into System Preferences > Displays Change the resolution and if nothing comes up, wait for 15 seconds and leopard will change the resolution back!!!!! I got my display to work at 1280x1024 @ 96 Hz Thanks so much!!!!!...... now to figure out how to get it to work in snow leopard!!!!!
lyn07
Thanks! Didn't think it could, but this finally enabled QE/CI on my Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 2xDVI on OS X 10.6.2!! I have the LegacyATI4800Controller.kext in Extra/Extensions and erased all other ATI .keksts in S/L/E besides the ATI 4800 with modified DevID. Can't tell yet, if Dual Display mode works, since i only have one monitor here right now. My system tells me it had a ATI 4800 installed.
djlin
Wonderful! My XFX 4850 finally works with QE supported. Thanks a lot.
Emission
Thank you for your input! This helped me get my HD 4850 going on one screen at least. I'm having a problem though. I have two 1920x1080 DVI monitors, only one of them can be connected to the card at any given time otherwise the system will not boot to a desktop, and if I attempt to connect the 2nd monitor when the system is at the desktop, the system crashes and shows the classic "You need to restart your computer" message. I installed the radeon package and framebuffer package as instructed, and all ATI/Natit kexts have been deleted from S/L/E. I'm running iDeneb 1.4 (10.5.6) upgraded to 10.5.8 through system update with an XFX HD 4850 512MB, the same card as one of the previous posters. If one of you guys could share what you did to make it work with both DVIs then please do. Thank you. I'll try a few things in the meantime. GSCSverige
Followed the instructions and installed the Q Exclusive cards pkg inside the essential package. rebooted and VOILA! it works and all resolutions are there.. DVI monitor in 2nd port and DVI2HDMI in first port (don't know if it this affects anything or not) been following a lot of guides reinstalling the 10.5.7 several times. THANK YOU FOR THE GUIDE! badsanta
hi everyone, long time reader of insanelymac, first time poster i have a pretty clean 10.5.8 install on a asus p5kpl/am board (nothing special - intel g31+ich7), with a e8500 core2 and the asus version of this (eah4850) card. everything is 99% perfect, i used the packages found in this guide and the ci is hardware accelerated and the qe is supported (1680x1050@60Hz), the only problem is every 5-10 seconds the screen will jitter vertically. its only slight, but still enough to be annoying has anyone encountered this problem before? any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated
