dafootballer
For some reason ever since i bought my new external seagate HD it hasnt acted much like an external HD at all Alot of the time my files will get deleted when i delete them off my main HD but some files do still stay its extremely weird and i dont know how to fix it the drive is in NTFS. Would formatting fix the problem? for example ill put in a dmg unplug my external delete it on my main hd plug it back in and it will be gone? weird
cbreaker
Well, I guess who knows. Do you unplug the drive right after you copy the file? Are you doing the "Eject" function to first safely close out the device? The operating system may report the file copied before it's actually copied so if you unplug it before that's done then that could be the cause, but I'm guessing you've tried all the usual things. So I dunno, but if you format the drive in MacOS (HFS) format you'll probably have more luck with it.

cbreaker
Yea well that is one benefit. NTFS on MacOS is great to have now; it's a life saver. But, if you can, HFS will always be faster on MacOS since it's native and much better supported. The good thing is that MacDrive on Windows works pretty good (and the newer versions won't trash your MacOS filesystem when using Vista) and is flexible - you can use USB drives and stuff just like they were native Windows drives.
