Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio CR sereis laptop that has 965 Chipset and GMA X3100. I've been using this for a long time and was happy with it, since almost everything is working.

Anyway, earlier this day, I installed OSX in my friends older toshiba A135 laptop. It has GMA950 and I noticed a big difference when hovering the dock (magnification), and minimizing windows. It is way smoother than my X3100. Out of curiosity, I ran Xbench to his system and was shocked with the results.

His QuartsGL test in spinning squares hits 190+ Frames/sec. I ran a test in mine, it got 23+ .. the difference is tooooo big. How come?

I've tried installing different drivers in my X3100. Tried EFI string only - Tried Stock 10.5.5/10.5.6/10.5.7 gma kext - Tried hacked kext - Tried Natit and the test results are all the same.

Can anyone post their GMA X3100 Xbench 1.3 and see if we have the same? I read in some article that even a real mac that has X3100 has 20+ fps in spinning frames.

This is my QuartGL Xbench result (CPU/HDD test not included)

Quartz Graphics Test 92.42

Line 136.66 9.10 Klines/sec [50% alpha]

Rectangle 56.29 16.80 Krects/sec [50% alpha]

Circle 100.74 8.21 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]

Bezier 95.01 2.40 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha]

Text 116.72 7.30 Kchars/sec

OpenGL Graphics Test 18.56

Spinning Squares 18.56 23.54 frames/sec

User Interface Test 56.46

Elements 56.46 259.11 refresh/sec

It would be better if there is a fix for this - or maybe I did something wrong - or is this normal?

Cheers!

It's normal, the drivers are crappy. Even real MacBooks with the X3100 get lower scores than MacBooks with the GMA 950.

EDIT: I have the same series laptop hehe

I guess I have to live with it. This is just sad. I can't believe that I just knew today. Oh well.

Thanks for the info!

Hoping that Apple makes newer/better drivers.

Do Snow Leopard have the same results? Anybody tried it on SL?

  • 4 weeks later...

I noticed fairly slugging effects as well with my X3100. Here are the result from Xbench that I just took:

I have a 2GHz Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM, so I guess that's what helped me scores versus yours.

Was that on Snow Leopard?

Anyway, I just installed the package from here: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/intel-gma-x...x-10-5-7-t3373/

Here are my Xbench results (they're a little better).
