Wireless for desktop machines OOB

This is possibly the easiest way to get wireless working on a desktop machine: buy yourself a mini PCI-E adapter and plug in a genuine AirPort card.

Mini PCI-E adapters can be ordered from here:

http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/MP2W.html (or just google for MP2W)

This is a small card that lets you plug mini PCI-E cards in to a regular PCI-E slot. Remember to get suitable antennas - 5.8GHz for a wireless-n card or 2.4GHz for wireless-g. Not sure if there might be other places you can get similar adapter cards - there's certainly nowhere in the UK, this company is based in Taiwan so the shipping costs a bit.

Then order a genuine PCI-E Mac AirPort card from wherever you like. E-Bay is good and quite cheap, even for the new Wireless-N cards.

Once you get the bits it's just plug and play, no hassles with dodgy PCI bus drivers or hacked up KEXTs. I am hoping this will also carry on working in Snow Leopard if they remove the PCI bus drivers altogether.

Thought I'd share this note as these forums have been invaluable to me, hope this helps a few people out.
