discovered
The machine: Powerbook G4, 1.67GHz, Leopard Goal: install a new and larger hard drive, possibly this... Western Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive And then put the 80GB internal in an external case, and use it for storage. The hitch: I feel confused about hardware specifics, and whether this project will work as I currently envision it. Someone out there, hopefully someone on this forum, will point me in the right direction. Apple System Profiler calls my current HD an ATA drive. The product I found on pricewatch.com in the Notebook Drives section is an SATA drive. Does that difference make a difference? I have tentatively picked a new HD with 7200RPM instead of 5400RPM, assuming it will provide better performance. Does the increased speed help, or will it just drain my battery faster? Does my older laptop have hardware restrictions that require a slower (5400RPM) HD? Damn. I posted this in the wrong section. This is a general Apple Hardware issue. I have no idea how to move this post, yet. Please excuse my confusion.
LouCioccio
ATA is the same as PATA the one you have cannot use a SATA drive. So look for parallel or PATA or just ATA. You should be fine. Ciao, Lou Cioccio
