I'm out of this thread, there should be enough info to get 10.5.7 working perfectly and 10.5.8 (only issue was the mic not working), I probably could make it work with the dsdt fix I have made to my machine...

I'm now on Snow Leopard , works better than 10.5.8 for me because I have my microphone working in Snow Leo...

good luck to you all !!!

The information in this post is dedicated to the Retail install of OSX Leopard

(the OSX DVD you can buy in an Apple store) without modifying the S/L/E folder at all

&

chameleon 2.0 as a bootloader

download link: chameleon.osx86.hu/articles/chameleon-20rc2-is-available-with-new-features-and-less-bugs

if you are installing from scratch you will also need to burn Grub-DFE to boot the OSX retail disk

Latest recommended release update: OSX 10.5.7

About latest release update: OSX 10.5.8

everything else seems to work fine... sleep works again

HERE IS WHAT I DID:

from 10.5.7 I installed 10.5.8 with a simple software update

backed up my extra/extensions folder

then installed chameleon rc2 over my chameleon rc1

removed the new extra/extensions folder and the extensions.mkext created by the chameleon rc2 installer

recopied my backed up extra/extensions folder back in place

used the gui version of the dsdt patcher with the HPET option checked, moved the dsdt.aml to the Extra folder for a cleaner Root drive

removed disabler.kext

reboot

Snow Leopard:

Important Before updating to 10.5.7 and above

If you where using 10.5.6 (or earlier), with older kext (if you use the ones from the latest pack you won't have the problem)

remove HDAEnabler, LegacyHDAPlatformDriver from the Extra/Extensions folder (do that before the update)

(if you fail to do that you may get a kernel panic during boot depending on what version of the sound kext you are using, all you would have to do then is boot your system with the grub dfe disk)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LATEST KEXT PACK dedicated for EP45-UD3R

May 20th 2009

Pack_for_10.5.7.zip

(if you have made any improvement to the how to's please send/post the txt files)

(this pack can temporarily be used with previous release, at least 10.5.4 and up)

DO NOT MODIFY the S/L/E folder, the goal of all this is to keep it untouched in its original condition...

After the first install of Chameleon 2.0 do not forget to delete the extensions.mkext file in the Extra folder...

Here's my (probably too) detailed How To for the complete install. I've merely copied and pasted and then augmented the How To's scattered throughout the old thread and within the pack.

Eliade- It's perhaps a bit overboard to include in the main pack, but I'll leave that up to you.

It's still basically a rough draft so everyone should feel free to offer edits/fixes.

which "mentioned kext" are you talking about?

you can remove kext by simply delete them, at least the one from the Extra folder,

don't touch anything from the S/L/E folder !!!

if your system doesn't boot because you removed an essential kext from the extra/extensions, no worries as long as you have a burned copy of grub dfe, you can use it to boot your system, then take care of those kext you need....

if you need to remove a modified kext from S/L/E then you need to replace it with the original kext using kexthelper or whatever, if the kext wasn't replacing an old one (i.e. realtek1000) then simply delete it...

Thanks for the kext pack.

I was referring to the HDAenabler and the Legacyplatformdriver. I found them and everything is ok except for the front mic in. Is there any way to resolve this? It was working fine under 10.5.6 using kexts posted on this website.

I don't think I ever saw the front mic working, but I don't use it so never really looked into it... if I need earphones I plug them into my receiver which is itself connected to the back audio port of the computer, the receiver is on my table (I have a big table) so it's closer to me...

the thing is in order to keep S/L/E untouched we are limited to the sound kext I found.

But you may use the sound kext you had before, which I supposed were installed in S/L/E, just use any HDAenabler from my pack instead of the one from the sound kext you had and everything will either work or not. using the old hdaenabler probably won't allow you to boot...

personally I just don't want to mess with S/L/E anymore for many good reasons. but feel free to do whatever, only thing as I said is the hdaenabler needs the new version, it's kind of a generic file, so that's all...

Had some issues with shutting down properly recently. Removed all my old kets in Extras and iused this pack, FLAWLESS! Just wanted to say thanks.

PS: can we add either a link to the right message with the BIOS settings or the settings themselves to the first message? Might save a lot of folks some time.

great!

sure I'll do that in a few minutes

I just have to give credit where credit is due, but I actually got the BIOS settings from bigpoppa206. I'm afraid I got so much info from so many people I didn't put the source of each item in the How To doc.

Side note: I've been reading up on doing RAID with leopard and it seems not overly complicated. Just curious if anyone has done it with our motherboard and if there is anything special that needs to be done.

Just tried the raid on two DATA Hard drive, works very well, mirrored using the disk utility

one sata the other is IDE, both exact same size

added a file, disconnected one of the drive from the raid setup, and I still had access to the data, so as expected if one drive fails nothing is lost, and everything is accessible.

now I'll try raid 0 for improved speed, but in this setup if one drive fails everything is lost....

edit:

COOL

using "AJA System test" to test the speed, most non-raid drive read/write is about 54MB/s

the raid 0 drives had a both read/write speed around 106MB/s

and the setup is so easy, well at least with DATA hard drive, I don't know about the MacOS system drive...

I'll try one of these days but not now

Yes, I use digital out and the movies I've ripped with Handbrake appear to be kicking it out in Dolby Surround.

The sound pack I use are the yellow ones: "Legacy 3outs2ins digital regualr (sic) headphone"

This is the one in the /Extra folder at your root. Although the pack Eliade assembled from everyone is without question the most complete and best solution, it is true the instructions are not as complete as they could be. When I get the time I'll try to augment them a bit.

It's a good idea to make a copy of your apple.boot.plist just in case, and you'll need to edit the file from the desktop (using textedit is fine) before dropping it back into the /Extra folder. It will also ask you to "Authenticate" when you try to put it into the folder. Just click Authenticate and enter your password.

(From the other thread)

I know it's in the extra folder but what line do I put in -f in the apple.boot.plist? I can't just paste it anywhere, right?

Ill try and download your Hackintosh How To another time gmacman. Right now clicking the link just opens a blank loading page.

the -f line should be:

<key>-f</key>
  <string></string>

and can be pasted anywhere before or after any blocks

in other word as long as the file has alternating <key> and <string> you are good

<key>....</key>
  <string>....</string>
  <key>-f</key>
<string></string>
  <key>....</key>
<string>....</string>

if you have the following, it very likely won't boot

 <key>....</key>
  <key>....</key>
 <string>....</string>
<string>....</string>

if that happens, as long as you where using the ...boot.plist in the Extra folder

you can quickly recover from the mistake by simply booting with grubDFE disk...

that's another reason why I prefer everything modified from the Extra folder, and leave the rest of the system untouched, a lot less headache involved...

Hello,

I am using a:

Gigabyte ep45 ud3p

Corsair 2gb ddr2

Intel q9550

1tb SATA Hitachi drive

Sony dvd/cd/dl IDE drive

Whenever I put the grub disc in and then switch discs to install OS X retail disk. I get the gray apple screen with a Circle and slash through it. Yes I have set the SATA mode to AHCI and enabled SATA 0-3 ports. I am at a loss on what to do. I tried using the boot123 disc as well to see if that was an issue. Is there anything else I can do to resolve this? I am wondering if it is because i am using an IDE dvd rom.

Very possibly, yes! If you had another working OSX86 drive you could boot from, you could install using a disk image of the Mac Install disk and go from there.

Anyone else have success with an IDE DVD drive for an install?

Great new thread! Lots of useful info condensed from the last thread.

Thanks to Eliade and this awesome forum I've gotten my Hackintosh running great except I'm experiencing extremely poor performance from the onboard Firewire. I'm only getting transfer rates of 20mb a sec with the onboard fw400 connectors. On my MacBookPro I get 40mb a sec using FW400. I get about 32mb a sec using USB 2 on the Hackintosh. Is this just the way it is?? This is a big deal to me because I use an audio interface on my FW400 ports. Should I get a FW PCI card??

Any recommendations?

TIA,

jb

I believe the Firewire thing is a bug in Chameleon. It's something to do with firwire security mode (nothing of which I understand). But I remember seeing an odd message in system log at boot. Here's the thread over at the Chameleon forum that discusses it. Hopefully the final version of Cham 2 will have that fixed.

Nope. Had the same problem and just ditched the old IDE drive for a cheap SATA one.

Megalomaniac - I know it's an added expense, but my suggestion is just get a new SATA DVD drive. They're so cheap it's worth it. My 20x Samsung cost me like $30 and that was over 6 months ago so I'm sure you can get a faster/cheaper model.

Thanks gmacman. That's my issue alright. Hope the new chameleon comes out soon!

Until they do fix this, what's the best card for FW 400 & FW 800??

The JMicronATA.kext for IDE support in the optional kext folder in the pack doesn't work for my Pioneer IDE DVD drive.

Although a version of the JMicronATA works on my other retail install.

Well I tried the Startech PCI-E FW800 card last night and I was only

getting 40 mb per sec while connected to the FW800 port. Not good.

Again, about half of the transfer rate it should be. I guess the chameleon

bug affects all Firewire activity and not just onboard Firewire?? I sure

hope the new chameleon fixes all this.

I did a clean install from retail and upgraded to 10.5.7. Everything is working apart from the front mic, which I've given up now). Now, I am having a problem shutting down. I keep getting the standard Apple error screen when shutting down, but not when resetting.

I tried both shutdown fixes in the May 20th pack (openhaltrestart.kext and voodoopower.kext), but neither seem to help. What can I do?

Many thanks

While I have tried to keep my original install as vanilla as possible, I do have to install the OpenHaltRestart.kext in S/L/E because installing it in the Extensions folder in Extras does not seem to work all the time. You might need to do this too.

I followed this precisely as written, but after installing and the updates on the first boot, and rebooting using -v, I have a huge problem.

Basically there is some kind of graphic error and the screen displays nasty artifacts. At this point I can't go any further.
