Best laptop for running OSX x86

I dont agree with keith. I have an ATI based motherboard from cyberpower just like keith.

It installed off of the 10.4.6 JaS dvd just fine. Editing the azalia sound driver and adding in my id's got sound working great. And my video card, ATI x1600 with 256 megs of ram was working perfectly first boot with QE and CI supported.

I am posting this from that same laptop via wireless (I got an atheros based minipci card and it works great.)

This is an amd turion 64 mt-40 with 2 gigs of ram. OS X is running great on it.

How does yours boot? does it boot like a mac normally should or does it go into a verbose mode then boots.

you see, mine does that and never comes out unless I use -x.

If there is a way to get this to work, then I would say the MS-1029 is a great macintel. er macamd.

What is it with these losers stuffing up a thread. The guys that stuff up a thread are just losers who have nothing else to say so they just stuff up good threads to raise there post counts. If you have nothing of value to add, dont post.

I am thinking of buying an ASUS laptop. As ASUS make the macbook.

the come with core duo, 1 gb ddr2 ram, 120 gb hdd, 1600XT 256mb, EFI chip (not enabled) Dual layer dvd burner. I've read up on the specs and they are extremely close to what the Macbook Pro is. Or you could just go with a Dell, (i personally dont like dell, kind of tacky).

Anyway to get rid of that and have it boot like it should??

hehe I just want it to boot! Thats all! Even though this would be nice.

Did you apply any PFF's or anything to you DVD?

Yes I added the AMD patchs from Jas. You also have to make sure you install the AMD/Intel Paches when you install OSX.

I am running a Dell Inspiron 1300 (called the B130 now I think), and all works great besides the audio. It is using the Sigmatel HDA, which as far as I have found, there is on fix for. But I can live without sound for the most part. Everything else works perfect on it, and you can't beat a price of around 600 bucks.

So as I haven't read real answers including some sort of low price range, I'll try to start to fire up this thread again.

I read someone says the Dell laptops would run fine. When I look at their lower end notebooks, that could indeed be very true. I just copy paste the links overhere. The first one I found has duo 2 core and also Intel 950 videocard, the Inspiron E1505

http://www.dell.com/content/products/produ...s=dhs&cs=19

Just 700 dollars

Or the E1705, which has a 17 inch widescreen, but is 200 dollars more expensive:

http://www.dell.com/content/products/produ...s=dhs&cs=19

Or instead if you want to go cheaper, the 14 inch model could do for 650 dollar

http://www.dell.com/content/products/produ...s=dhs&cs=19

This one would do the trick also I guess, for just over 600 dollars Inspiron 6400

Maybe others could comment on the hardware parts which one is best to use but if you ask me they seem right for a right price also

Yes it could have. So Let's get the ball rolling. Post your laptop and how you got there.

Heres my entry:

IBM Thinkpad T42P

Used Jas 10.4.8 ppf1 ppf2

upgraded to 10.4.9 using http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...&hl=upgrade

uphuck will not boot, so don't try it

kookal 10.4.10, same thing, will destroy your working thinkpad

Atheros: use this guide and edit this file:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684

sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/Info.plist

using mighty mouse to lessen tearing

Not sure why koolkal and uphuck won't work, don't have time to work on that.

Too busy playing world of warcraft on my Hackintosh. (and it works perfect)
