Resize Free space partition

Hi,

When I installed OS X on my computer it loaded the genericata driver and could not recognize the full size of the volumes. Like many other people my 200GB drive showed up as 128GB. Then when I got it to load the viaata driver it recognized the full capacity again. I would like to add the free space partition onto my 128GB one but the resizeVolume command won't work with the free space. Is there any way I can format the free space so that the resizeVolume command will work with it?

OK, I managed to format the freespace partition to HFS+ so now the resizeVolume command actually tries to resize the partition size but I get an error "Resizing encountered error Could not modify partition map (-9986) on disk disk0s1 Macintosh HD"

Is there a solution or does that resize command just not work properly with hackintoshes?

I'm also having this problem... anyone have any ideas on stuff to try? Oddly, SuperDuper, CCC, and Hatchery H1 all crash also... these are my only problems with my hackintosh...

Having the same problem here. Finally got OSX to see the full drive but now I can't do anything with it in Disk Utility. I was able to format the unallocated space to Fat32 from windows with a program called Paragon Partition Manager. OSX can see the Fat32 partition now, but disk utility won't let me convert it to HFS+

Does the disk use the Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID Partition Table (GPT) format? Apple's Disk Utility can only resize HFS+ partitions on GPT disks; it can't resize partitions on MBR disks. If you've got such a disk, you could try Parted Magic or System Rescue CD. These are Linux-based emergency disks with a partitioning tool called GParted, which I think will resize HFS+, but I'm not positive of that. (If one tool doesn't work, try the other one; it's possible that one has HFS+ support but the other doesn't.) Another option would be to use my GPT fdisk to convert the disk from MBR to GPT form; however, Windows won't boot from GPT on BIOS-based computers, so if you've got a Windows dual-boot system, this may not be a good choice. You'll also probably have to reinstall your boot loader if you do an MBR-to-GPT conversion.
