Hey Guys,

Last week I had nothing to do, so I decided to research some new bootloaders that recently showed up on the net, so I decided to test

BOOT-THINKS 1.1.0

this is another thread that is very useful with download links

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=168500

I downloaded from

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=ht...en&ie=UTF-8

Use google translate to view it in english

So here is what I could learn about it, if anyone has some useful info please add

It is about 80% "true" EFI bootloader I installed on EFI partition by selecting efi (dont select booth and boot0) I had freshly installed retail 10.5.4 did not install any custom kext or any mods, rebooted and it booted of EFI partition look very close to real mac without any problem I HAVE MSI WIND EVERYTHING worked EXCEPT audio and 1024/600 video

Then I updated to 10.5.7 via software update 100% automatically restarted and it did not boot first, on a second try got blue screen on a third pressed F8 text mode and used -v -x booted into system OK. Installing Custom kexts fixes it in my case VoodooHDA and Custom GMA950

So after exploring for a while I found out that this bootloader loads extensions from EFI partition not /ROOT/SYSTEM/LIBRARY/EXTENSIONS

I BROWSED the EFI and its its in DARWIN/SYSTEM/LIBRARY/COMPONENT folder which is hidden there are extra two extensions.mkext F1 is appledecrypt and disabler and F2 is copy of 10.5.7 system extensions that are in /ROOT/SYSTEM/LIBRARY/Extensions not all but all the nesesary ones. So I modified those mkexts added voodoohda I it loaded them with NO PROBLEM from EFI for me it only worked if I put kext into mkext from F2 folder

I THOUGH its a very neat feature SO I DECIDED to test it with SNOW 10A380 and it did not boot DVD nore USB no INSTALLED SNOW because it has mach_kernel from 10.5.7 and 10.5.7 Extensions By replacing for mach_kernel 10b and 10.6 equevalents of Extensions which to that mkext /EFI/DARWIN/SYSTEM/LIBRARY/COMPONENTS/F2/extensions.mkext

I think might be possible to boot snow I have gone from getting 3 panics to just one "INCOMPATABLE ARGUMENTS USED" or something like that. OR one more thing you need dsmos.kext not appledecrypt to load SNOW

I ll try to mess with the kext and add some more info later

Hope it helps

PS excuse my chicken scratch
