Good find, vbetts! A relief about the price difference. I wonder how many people will be waiting to see when and if the next generation ATI 5870 and later Nvidia alternatives will be supported with their 40nm process and reduced power (reduced noise) requirements.

Thats badass. The price is reasonable too for a 2GB 285, only just a tad bit more than on the PC side.

You are misreading the article. The mac version only has 1 GB, but is more expensive then the 2 GB PC version, so this is not so reasonable after all.

What I want to know is: Could we flash a PC 285 with the mac firmware so that we can use the EVGA mac drivers on our hackintosh's?

It depends, the card could just be a normal 285 with just bios fit for mac. Just a reference board and that's about it. 285's aren't cheap, so I don't think anyone is going to try flashing it and not being able to use it. :D What you can do though, is extract the bios from both a PC version, and the mac version, and compare them.

There's no need. I've just installed those drivers on my hackintosh.

The installer checks for a Mac Pro, so (unless your hackintosh is a MacPro3,1 or 4,1) open the .pkg in Pacifist and install them from there.

It's a full package, it's not just for the 200 series cards.

Visit Netkas' blog..

The actual driver really isn't different from what we have anyways. Aside from the GTX series, we already had the same nvidia drivers before, which were drivers for the 9, 8, 7, 6, and fx series. I even found sources for nv2 in the package, which is a geforce 2 MX.

So please help me understand here....

I HAVE a MAC PRO Intel (dual dual)...NOT a Hackintosh... and I have a BFG GTX 285 1gb.

It works fine when I boot into XP but not at all in Mac mode.

Can I flash the bios so MAC osx finds it? How about if I installed the EVGA GTX285 Drivers for OSX?

Any other ideas? I tried calling BFG and doing the trade up program but the tech support didnt even know which of their cards work on MAC, but they did know that some do.

I have a EVGA GTX260 and when I ran the installer for the GTX285 I got a message that everything was already up-to-date and no install was necessary. I think this is because I have already installed the CUDA 3.x drivers for mac. They can be found on the Nvidia website.

Just sharing my experience.

Jeanne wished there was a way to put Haudenosaunee core teachings back into their daily lives. The Thanksgiving Address (literally”the words before all else”) came to mind, as these words best express the importance of living in harmony with the natural world. Recited to open and close civil and religious meetings (as well as a daily sunrise greeting) the Address thanks each life-sustaining aspect of our lives, connecting all present in harmony with one another and the natural world.

As art director at Syracuse Cultural Workers, one of my jobs is to help create these kinds of visual “tools for change”. The thoughts in the Address flow from “greetings and thanks to each other as people” to thanking the earth, the waters and fish, the plants and animals, the winds and 4 directions, the thunderers, the sun and moon and stars, the teachers and all the gifts of creation. The shared experience of reciting or listening to these words puts “our minds as one” and conveys respect for all that surrounds us. I wanted to preserve the flow of thoughts and was challenged to create a “slow release” poster. With Jeanne’s 60th birthday coming up, I gathered many of my thumbnail drawings, taping them together much like those packets of postcards you buy in souvenir shops. The card opened like an accordion, over 5 feet long, working as both poster to hang on wall or small book to rest on table or nightstand. Jeanne was thrilled. So was I.
