Hi.

Is it possible to use PGP Whole Disk Encryption:

on hackintosh?

I tried to encrypt whole disk and it works(!!!), but it is impossible to boot encrypted system after reboot.

PGP WDE creates brand new GUID HFS+ partition and puts bootloader there, which is used for pre-boot disk decryption. Chamelen can see this new bootable partition, but cannot boot ;)

When i run my machine without Chameleon but directly from hard disk, PGP onboot screen loads up (which means that PGP bootloader is also in MBR i think???), but it always deny my paraphrase as incorrect.

Anyone got any success with whole disk encryption on Mac OS X @ OSX86?

There are only 2 solutions for whole disk partition on Mac Os X - PGP and Checkpoint:

,but only PGP gives us trial version.

Thansk for any help.

Any other experiences? - I'd be really interested in using PGP WDE on a Chameleon-based retail installation.

I haven't tried the demo yet, but from what I read here, the problem might be that both PGP's boot loader and Chameleon - unlike other boot loaders like Grub - have to reside in the MBR. If it was possible to run Chameleon from the boot sector of an active primary partition only, without using the MBR which could be left to PGP's boot loader, chances would be much better. This procedure actually works with PGP's or TrueCrypt's WDE for Windows: Their boot loaders can be installed onto the MBR, as long as the (different) primary partition with Grub remains set active. This way, the first thing that comes up in the boot process is the WDE boot loader. After that, Grub is loaded and recognizes all partitions, including the encrypted system partition, assuming the provided password was correct. If it wasn't, Grub still comes up, but simply does not detect the encrypted system partition.

It would be great if this was also possible with Chameleon. Both with a PGP/TrueCrypt WDE on a different Windows partition as well as with PGP WDE for Mac OS X.

I don't think, it is possible yet. Unfortunately it is not possible to use the new filevault with wde which is supported in lion. I hope there will be a possibility soon … ;-) But it may be difficult to implement.
